I am so impressed with the amazing French teachers at Coucou in Culver City. I signed up for classes level one Debutante in Culver City. We knew that we would have two teachers for the 10 week class our first teacher, JoAnna was amazing. She made the experience so enjoyable, especially when you're challenging a new language. Each time we left class the first five weeks we felt refreshed and glad to be learning a new language at a quick pace, but with 100% support. The next five weeks we had Juliette. It was great to have a new instructor as they gave us the opportunity to experience two amazing teachers. I love the way that both of the teachers made any corrections when you were talking in French that made you feel so comfortable and not embarrassed. It is amazing the amount of grammar training that both of these individuals had as French is not an easy language. We also in one class had a sub Gaeton who was an excellent teacher as well he challenged us during the class and was extremely supportive as we went through another lesson to learn French. I highly recommend coucou and the program they offer. I was extremely happy with my experience with the staff and felt comfortable to participate! J'adore Coucou! I'm now in my 4th Coucou class and I have loved my experience. I started with French 2 (took some in college) in March of 2018 and am now in French 5 (Feb 2019 - took a short break over the summer). My French has improved drastically in less than a year, all thanks to the fun, once-a-week class after work. Julie was my teacher for French 2 and Giulia was my teacher from French 3 to 5. Both are amazing and excellent. Coucou is also great in that it has events for the community (happy hours, parties)! I just finished Coucou's biweekly Level 1 course and immediately signed up for Level 2. I've never studied French and am a total beginner. All classes are on Zoom due to the pandemic which is a shame because the physical location, which I've now visited twice to pick up course books, seems great (but hey, at least I don't have to look for parking). My instructor Jordan is truly the best. He's very encouraging, never makes anyone in my class feel negative about not remembering things we've covered or making mistakes, and really cares about all of us students. He gently helps all of us get over the awkwardness of trying to speak a new language, and I've come to really look forward to my Tuesday and Thursday evenings with him and my classmates. Teaching on Zoom seems hard but he does a great job. I also really appreciate Coucou's teaching methods, with a focus on real conversational French the way French people speak it (along with the necessary grammar to back that up). The different learning modalities (speaking, listening, grammar drills, etc) cover all the bases and are never boring. I can't believe how much I've learned in just eight weeks. If you're here reading reviews because you're wondering if you should sign up, just do it! I can't wait until the pandemic is behind us and I can attend Coucou in person. I'm so happy to be taking French lessons at Coucou LA. The pace is great and the small class sizes help you get a lot of individual attention and customization to your needs. Not only are the teachers kind, patient, and hilarious, but the other students are as well. They've developed a great culture in their short time in LA and it is only growing! We are laughing every class and learning at the same time. Duolingo and other learning apps will only get you so far--you need a native speaker to tell you to your face that what you just said is complete nonsense. Plus, Coucou is the most affordable of comparable programs we found in LA. Levels 1-2 are more traditional in the sense of learning grammar and vocabulary (which are vital), but by level 3, we are speaking off book, conversing on the spot, all while building on those formal aspects of the language. Coucou is a special place. I've been a student for a year now and have taken both private and group classes here, both of which I highly recommend. I find the Coucou approach engaging, practical, and effective- I saw great results in just a few months. The vibe is fun & low pressure; you can put as much work into it as you want or can based on your schedule and will see results accordingly. I have taken Levels 2 and now 3 with Margaux and I can second everything people have said here - the classes are relaxed, fun and supportive, and very well structured. Margaux's dry French humor and the lighthearted workbook material keep even things like irregular verbs (groan) from getting too dull. I didn't take high school or college French, and I think my classmates in Level 3 are generally a little ahead of me in conversational skill, but I've never felt self-conscious about making mistakes. Margaux answers all my but-how-do-you-say-x questions patiently and thoroughly. I still do a lot of Duolingo, listening to French YouTube, and practicing with various other sources (I'm very motivated by an upcoming trip to France). But there's just no good way to get better at conversation except having conversations. If you've been trying to get by with Duo etc., try visiting a Coucou class (once is free) and I think you'll see how it can help you master French faster while bringing some joy to the process. read more

This was by far the most fun I've ever had in a language class. The program is super down-to-earth and you won't feel awkward or embarrassed to practice and make mistakes. For the past 9 months, I've been taking group classes at Coucou LA with Cynthia. The classes never got bigger than 4 students, and Cynthia has been an extremely kind and generous teacher who creates a lively, casual atmosphere in class in which I never felt uncomfortable asking clarification questions, and never got bored. Coucou has been such a wonderful experience of diving into language and immersing myself in another culture. I had taken French classes for many years at school and wanted to brush up on my French speaking skills. I took the conversation class with Julie and Margaux and found an awesome group of French speakers who were also honing their skills as well. In class, we've read articles and discussed a variety of subjects from politics, to media, to cultural differences and have had a lot of fun doing it. The first course of 10 classes was fantastic, we had an awesome time connecting, so we all decided to take the course again for another 10 sessions! We've met each other outside of class as well and continued our French conversational skills. The class has motivated me to take my language learning more seriously than I had in the past and has greatly improved my understanding of casual, conversational French.
