My mother passed away recently and we miss her terribly. She had requested that she be cremated after her passing and being the thrifty person she always was she looked up Coulee Region Cremation Group and found that they had a very affordable cremation package. She requested that we use that package, so we did. It was fine at first. They came to pick up her body and were very respectful and nice. My sisters and nieces didn't get a chance to see her so they went to the crematorium to view her body. They charged us $195 for them to view the body. When I went to pick up the ashes I found that they charged us $395 to pick up the body and the ashes were in a plastic bag inside a plastic box for which they charged $25. They asked how many copies of the death certificate I would need and I told them 5. I paid the bill which ended up being $700 more than expected and waited patiently for the death certificates to arrive. I waited 10 days and decided to call to check. They were going to check on them for me so I waited and called again. I was told they would take care of it. Waited another week and talked to Joe and he informed me that they were not included in the package, which is fine, except they should have told me the day I picked up the ashes and paid!! They had NOT even ordered them and did NOT tell me I needed to pay for them, which I would happily have done! I've been waiting nearly three weeks for them and I really needed them. I tried to explain to Joe that I wish someone would have caught this sooner and all he could focus on was that they weren't included in the package and I had to pay for them separately. He said I should have seen that they weren't included in the paperwork. I doubt that I'm the only grieving son who did not read all the paperwork the day they're picking up their parent's ashes, but he kept saying that and repeating that they weren't included in the package, which I clearly understood the first time he said it. I'm pretty easy going, but by the end of that phone call I was pretty upset. I did get a phone call from Jim, one of the funeral directors afterwards and he genuinely apologized, which helped and I do appreciate that, but it doesn't undo the damage done. I can't in good conscience recommend Coulee Region Cremation Group... at least not for their "affordable" package. Maybe Joe was having a bad morning, but how he chose to handle my phone call and situation was very unprofessional and uncaring.... exactly the opposite of what grieving family members need. read more
