I love Bozeman and two of my adult daughters live there. Although I live in California, I recently had a really great by-phone experience wtih Country Bookshelf. Basically, I was in a pinch. My Bozeman grandson's birthday was one day away and I needed to do some last-minute shopping. I called Country Bookshelf, which I knew did local deliveries, and asked if they had a certain book in stock. They did not, but they offered to order it and deliver it to my grandson when it arrived. Great! I bought the book. Then I asked if I could also have a store gift certificate delivered to my grandson the next day, in time for his birthday. Their answer: Yes! I think they even did a non-scheduled delivery run for me. In addition, the store rep who was assisting me (China) helped me pick out a birthday card (she texted me a photo of it) and copied a personal note into the card for me (a note that I had texted her). And the next day she texted me again to let me know the birthday card and gift certificate had been delivered to my grandson's front door. I am very impressed by the friendliness of this bookstore and the level of customer experience I received. read more

This place was amazing with all its nooks and crannies. Not only filled to the top with different variety books they also had a lot of cute small items. Also they have blind date books which I thought was an amazing idea. Unfortunately I don't live by this amazing book hole in the wall. It would be a great place to even just pop in and take a while to figure out which book to buy as they also had a lot of comfy chairs. read more

Bookstores come in all sizes, shapes and levels of quality. Country bookshelf is among the better ones. It's not a used bookstore, so it's got a different vibe to it, but when you're looking for something by local authors, or books about the area, and want to find more of both than in a retail box store, Country Bookshelf is the place to start and probably finish, your search. It's an inviting atmosphere here, the light floors, walls, and bookshelves make it easy to forget the only windows are in the front of the store. There are two floors to Country Bookshelf, the second floor having the travel books and an abundance of history books, local and national. The first floor is where most people seemed to congregate, with the fiction, kids books, and local writers. I didn't see many places to sit, but then I was having one of those kid-in-a-candy-store moments where I wouldn't have been able to sit still. It's an exceptionally nice store. The staff is great, too. As I ran out of time, I was having trouble locating a book on the local by-ways and lesser-known historical places. Within minutes, I had at least three books in my hand. Two stories of books, books, books; it never seems to end! Country Bookshelf is one of a few independent bookstores in Bozeman, and a fine one at that. The atmosphere inside is very welcoming; plenty of places for people to sit down and peruse through books. They have autographed copies of books near the register, and are fond supporters of Greg Mortenson (as am I). The first floor consists of fiction, mystery, children's books, gift books, self-help and cooking. The second floor consists of sale items, biographies/history, and travel. I certainly liked looking at their selection of travel books. It's hard to walk out of here without buying at least one book. The abundance of books here is simply intoxicating (in a good way). Highly recommended for book lovers visiting Bozeman. read more

Excellent bookstore located in the heart of downtown Bozeman. They offer an amazing variety of both fiction and non-fiction options, a true browsers dream store. Great local & Montana selection as well! If I was a local I'd join their book club or attend author's events - definitely on par with some of the great options we have in Seattle (such as Elliott Bay). Staff has always been friendly and available if I had any questions. In the front of the store there's a curated selection of greeting cards. In the back is a fun area for kids. read more

Bright and airy Bozeman bookstore with what looks like floor to ceiling shelves of books (there's a second floor which adds to the illusion). Great place to pick up local books (Montana cookbooks, history, Yellowstone and Glacier Park photography books) as well as bestsellers and summer reads. When I learned of a printing error from a book I purchased from them, they were more than happy to replace the book, if I could get it back to them (snail mail was the option). They advised me to try with some of the national chains back here in the Bay Area -- that they might be sending their "Little Children" prints back for credit, too. No luck. read more

My mother's birthday was last week and it was also the one year anniversary of when I saw my parents) and I read about a very cool book (on a FB book group) where it's a murder mystery that was written in the 1930's and has deliberately misordered pages so you have to try to solve it. It's 100 pages and has millions of possible permutations. Anyway, I wanted to get this for her since she's obsessed with murder mysteries and reads them voraciously. This book is out of print after being reprinted in 2019. I tried many, many online bookstores, all of the Amazon international sites, and spoke to a number of stores around the country about it being backordered. I also placed a few orders for it at some of these stores. I googled an article about the biggest indie bookstores in the US and went through most of the list until I reached The Country Bookshelf in Bozeman, Montana. Their website said that they had a copy as of 9 am that morning. I called them and with the help of two employees, they confirmed that they did indeed have a physical copy. It might be one of the last available in the world, until it's reprinted again, which apparently will be happening again soon due to the new demand after the 3rd person in history to solve it did so just a few weeks ago. The copy was shipped to my mom for her birthday and we opened it together on FaceTime and she loved it. She loved the effort and the story behind it even more. Gasp, gasp - what a WONDERFUL independent bookstore in Bozeman. I finished my book and didn't bring another, which never happens to me. So went into Bozeman unsure whether I'd find a good bookstore. Good bookstore? Country Bookshelf is EXCEPTIONAL. They have so many titles and whoever does their buying clearly pays attention to reviews and literary buzz. I LOVE BOOKSTORES! I love to see what type of books are stocked and even more which ones are featured. I needed a book for the plane ride home so took a risk and bought the Book of the Month for Country Bookshelf, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. This rich and sometimes tough read kept me captivated while flying home. The time period is the early 1900s where an Irish family residing in Brooklyn goes through many different struggles and trials to simply survive. I also snagged a great book about hiking in the area which I plan to use when I return next spring. Very cute children's section that would make any child want to stay all day and read. read more

If a book is not in stock, they will order it with two-day shipping to the store, but no requirement to buy.
