We arrived at Studio Elite right around 11:30 AM and there were 7 or 8 of us that were getting made up. The owner of the studio met us at the front door and ushered us in to one of the larger rooms in her salon, where she'd set out a spread of cinnamon buns, homemade chicken salad sandwiches, water and lemonade and other goodies for us to nibble on as we waited our turn. It was so nice. And the whole experience was a lot of fun - women just sitting around talking and gossiping about anything and everything as we took turns. When she got to my hair, I told her to do whatever she saw fit with it (it's naturally very curly), and so she tamed it in the front with a flat iron then pinned it up in the back with several hundred bobby pins making it into one of those artfully messy updos that are so stylish and impossible to recreate on your own. It looked sensational. The best part was that at the wedding that night I was one of the few whose hair had stayed where it was originally styled (many of my straight-haired friends had lost some of the volume and curl they'd had hours earlier). I came in with about three months of natural grow-out and asked for a dark blonde that softly fades…read moreinto a lighter blonde. During the consultation, I was told my natural root color was already the perfect shade for what I was going for. However, a root smudge was applied that made my roots noticeably darker than my natural color, and the bleach was brought very close to the root. This resulted in a much higher-contrast look than what I requested, and not the soft, blended, lived-in blonde I was going for. I understand that a root smudge can come out a little darker, but I don't understand why a root smudge was done, or why bleach was put so close to my roots when I specifically asked for it to gradually fade. Now it's much darker roots and a harsh line. I'm disappointed, especially because I specifically asked to keep my natural root color. I feel like this was done in order to charge the client more. I would recommend having a detailed consultation and clarifying exactly how close to the root lightener will be applied before starting.

Loretta was super friendly and said I could come right on! My hair is naturally curl, and most stylists have a hard time giving me the cut I ask for.
