Disregarding the aged look of the place. Yes, it needs paint and updating. It's an old building. My brother ate there in the mid 70s when he was in high school. Don't expect perfection. We have been going to country school since we moved to Rochelle many years ago. We Love the fried chicken!. Then we found their chicken strips and WOW! So that bring us to today. We ordered the the 12 piece dinner as you can see in the photo of their not updated website menu. It says that you get 12 chicken strips, 4 rolls, 1 family sized side and one pint size side. I ordered this meal, plus: As follows 12 Strips The family size and pint mashed potatoes with the gravy on the side. 2 extra pint sized sides: baked beans and coleslaw. Sides of honey mustard dips. My husband got home with our food we unpacked it and for the third time we had no coleslaw. So he grabbed the receipt and went back. I noticed that we didn't got our bread either. So I called ahead to let them know of the missing items. The young person that answered the phone first told me that bread is no longer included as part of the order. They no longer carry bread, they have biscuits and if you want those they are one of your sides or xtra money. ( go online and update your menu!) then she added that it was policy that if he didn't arrive at country school with the bag of food purchased with him, that they would not give us the coleslaw. I was flabbergasted. Two other times we went in with the receipt no food and were given the slaw. Not Today! She went on to tell me that for the inconvenience for having to come back for the coleslaw it was their policy to remake the entire order. I am sorry this does not make any sense to me. You will remake me a whole new $44 order to replace my $2 pint of coleslaw that you charged me $5.29? During my call I went back to the website to re-check the rolls, and if it said anything's it said anything about bringing back the entire order to prove missing items. I did call back to talk to the manager. Waste of time. I will call and talk to the owners son tomorrow and up-date after the call. It may make or break if we ever go back to to country school again. Driving around Rochelle looking for a restaurant isn't hard. There's not many to choose from in this small town. Of course there's the usual fast crude restaurants. But not for me, not on this day. I was looking for a cool neighborhood place where the locals dine. I found one in the Country School. It's located adjacent to a McDonald's, which was easy to pass by. The Golden Starches is not a favorite of mine. Too many memories of bad meals throughout the years. I keep giving it second chances but they keep falling on their faces. The Country School is a burger joint too, only not generic. They have an extensive menu. I chose a BLT, rings, and a malt. All were ok, all were better quality than what their neighbor could have offered. You may say that Country School, schooled McDonald's. Quick Tip: Try the BLT, only ask them to not toast the bread. That way you can get that mound of bacon into your mouth quicker. read more

Small ma and pa hole in the wall. The fried chicken is delicious. Double Monster Munster is served with mayo, must, ketchup, lettuce, pickle, tomato, and onion. Meat was very tender and good. Coleslaw is finely diced, my favorite way. Cheese fries- cheese is blad and watery Chili dog- My 9 year old liked it Chicken strips are good but this time they only gave 1 piece in the kids meal, stingy. Not busy at all....only one in the drive thru....Took a long time about 8 mins to get food through drive though and even more time bc had a couple mess ups they had to fix. We go to country school quite often. We ordered cheese fries, and when we got home there were no cheese for the fries. We called them up and told them but they said there was nothing they could do. We thought we'd give them another chance so we went to the drive-through yesterday and ordered, we asked them if we could just have the side of cheese sauce that we didn't get the last time. They said without a receipt they couldn't do anything. We don't carry receipts around with us. It's not like we were asking for a free meal, we were asking for just a side of the cheese sauce to replace the one that we never got. They refused to do it. I've always loved their food, but I'm not happy that we had to pay for something we didn't get. read more

This place was old when I was a kid and it definitely shows. I doubt this place will ever close because it has the best ice cream and they have very good greasy food. The food has gotten chintzy, and it appears that they are freezing and reheating a lot of meat in order to stretch out some bucks. We won't be back. This place has the most AMAZING food I've EVER HAD!!! The best! It was my first time eating here and let me just say, I was BLOWN AWAY at how cheap and reasonable the food was and how delicious it was!! I would definitely come back here over and over as much as I can!! They are literally cheaper than McDonald's with better food!!! The only downside is that the bathrooms are outside, and frankly, a bit sketchy and tiny. My friend told me she was looking at the knob on the bathroom door (the door to actually enter the bathroom, not the door to go in the hallway outside the bathroom) while she waited for me and she said it looked like someone could come and lock the door from the outside which can be kind of scary since you could be doing your business kinda quietly and that may cause the employee closing up to not realize you're in there and lock you in. Then the vent in the bathroom by the floor was dented in to show a medium sized whole going under the wall that someone could potentially stick their foot in by accident. Ordered 2 Chicago dogs and onion rings. The kid making my food was leaning over to put the toppings on them and laid his arm all over the inside of the wrapper. I know kitchens are hot and figured his arms were sweating so when cashier handed me my food I told him to just throw them away. The place is very dirty anymore too. Too many kids working there with no work ethic and no supervision. Would probably be best to avoid until it closes and someone else buys it that knows how to handle food and operate a business. We frequent here often and have never found anything that isn't delicious! Of course, we usually stick to chicken and love the fast and fresh chicken we always receive whether we stop in or drive through. They have the BEST coleslaw I've ever had and my husband loves their potato salad and macaroni salad as well. If I ever need an ice cream fill, they have a great selection and generous helpings! Side story: One time when we were eating in, a man was eating his chicken so quickly he choked on it (yes for real) and a young adult male employee ran over and gave him the Heimlich Maneuver. I went to Country School last night for ice cream and the service I experienced was terrible. I waited in line to order my ice cream for about 30 minutes which has been typical since the Shelter in Place Order. However, once I finally arrived to the window to get two (2) orders of ice cream, I waited another 10 minutes as the 4 high school aged employees made other orders, talked to each other, threw items, etc. My two (2) orders were not the first orders they made but instead they made other customer's orders while I continued to wait for mine. Our order was simple - a fudge brownie sundae and a large dish with moose tracks ice cream. As the drive-thru line behind me continued to grow, I could not believe how long it was taking to make and serve me ice cream. Unfortunately, I will not be returning and I will not recommend Country School to other people. read more

They gave us a refund for the half pound difference, then another girl there said, "no, we want our money back and the burgers and we will make you the correct burgers." I agree with Jen T. that Country School is "as good as it gets" for fast food in the area. I have tried burgers, fried chicken and now I have been turned on to their chicken strips! The chicken strips are huge pieces of breaded chicken, breaded in the same manner as the bone-in pieces. There has been a time where I have visited Country School and ordered the chicken strips 3 days within one week. They are that delicious! Besides the burgers and chicken, their ice cream is also fantastic. I have heard good things about other items on their menu and I am looking forward to trying something new on my next visit. read more

We've been coming here for a few years and have always enjoyed the chicken and service. When picking up my carry out I noticed the cleanliness of the floors, door to the walk in cooler, dirty sticky walkways, sticky behind the counter and was no longer impressed. Their chicken is absolutely amazing as far as that goes but need some serious scrubbing/help cleaning up. I'll try them again but cleanliness is a deal breaker for me, I hope that they improve. read more
