I spent my high school years in this town and other than an expansion, this store has not changed one iota. That's a shame. A little spruce up would definitely help the shopping experience. But, I could forgive the ambiance if the selection was top notch, but it is not. Now, this is out in the sticks and I know that the tastes around here are not sophisticated, but that does not excuse brown and dried up produce. NOTHING excuses that. On a recent trip I found dried up and half slimy green beans out for sale along with eggplants that were turning brown. YECH! The selection of produce is pretty darned paltry too. As far as meats, there are the down home cuts, like jowls, that are harder to find in more city-fied establishments. The meat section is the one nice part of the store. As far as canned and dry goods, again, not much selection. If you don't like the choice of one large national brand or Food Club, buddy you are S.O.L. Lastly, they do have a hot food and bakery section that I have not tried, although folks here speak rather well of it. Sadly, the folks in this town do not have a lot of choices for shopping. Brookshires could make a decision to make a fine shopping destination, but I guess they'd rather let themselves be overshadowed by WallyWorld and go belly up in the fish bowl of life.

People need to work and big business needs to do its best to provide that instead of being unfair to communities who have served them well, and likely for a long time. You want more probably, but make do with what is available and stop complaining, they have a great selection, and their selection is up to corporate, and they seem to do a pretty good job as far as I'm concerned and the people who work there do what they are told, and sometimes that's like mission impossible, since some of us know how that works. The key is to stay focused as a worker and a consumer, so stop complaining and do your best it could be far worse so take your blinders off. This store has what you need more times than often, and the people I have seen working hard are doing their best! They are polite and always helpful. People are spoiled...they want this and that, or impose their superficial take on things, and well, most of us are there to shop, not show off and I find food, and the basics, and yes, they have auto service, so no, don't complain. This store is clean, and does its best, and that is that! Imagine what it is like to have to work hard for any company and restock shelves, lifting, pushing, tagging, etc, etc... and all the other things you as a consumer do not know about, so get over yourself, because this store does try, and I appreciate it and so should you. Grow your own apples if you think you can do better, go for it. Be grateful for things, and yes, we need a few more businesses here because the residents deserve that, not another coffee shop, and granola bars that cost $5.00, we need more than that, I can make my own coffee and do! We also need more smaller stores too, but this is a farming area, and big stores like Walmart who provide to this community are really great too, because farmers are very busy people and so is everyone else. The little man, he is the one who built this country, don't forget him or her and deserves a chance too, so see things for what they are, and remember, this store is a nice place to shop so respect it. All the typical stereotypes and tropes apply, including having an absurdly limited number of open registers and a knack for discontinuing items as soon as you grow accustomed to purchasing them. That said, if you want quality organic produce when the local farmers' market isn't in season, this is just about the only place to get it. That alone saves it from one or two star oblivion - if only barely - but doesn't change the fact that shopping here feels more like a chore than anything remotely enjoyable.
