An Eau Claire local raved about this spot and I'm pleased to say that Nostalgic Bean lived up to…read morethe hype! I came in on a Sunday morning and there was a little line of people ahead of me but it moved pretty quickly! Interior-wise, there isn't a ton of space for seating but luckily, there are plenty of tables/chairs at The Yard Container Park that's ~40 second walk from the bakery. I got the strawberry passionfruit cruffin, chocolate almond croissant, lavender vanilla shortbread, and a latte with sugar-free caramel. First off, I was very impressed with the variety of flavors that were displayed (i.e. passionfruit, rhubarb, cardamon, kimchi, etc.) All the baked goods I got were fantastic- especially the cruffin. I was initially hesitant to order it because I'm not a fan when the exterior doesn't have that flakey/crunchiness. But I'm glad I tried the one here because the texture was perfect. As for the filling, it was a good balance of sweet and tart. Same thing for the croissant. When I ate the cruffin, I already knew the croissant was about to hit- and it did. Perfectly flakey and had that beautiful crunchy exterior. They definitely didn't skimp on the chocolate/almond filling either! Personally, it was a little too much for me but that's just a me thing Last but not least, the lavender vanilla shortbread was wonderful. You can actually taste the lavender and they added a perfect amount of salt to bring the flavors out! Aside from the delightful pastries, the coffee was lovely and the staff were super friendly. Nostalgic Bean is definitely a Altoona gem!

I'm so excited we got to stop by and try things. The service was very friendly and prompt. I had…read morethe everything seasoning and cream cheese croissant which was really flavorful and had great texture. The kids inhaled the homemade blackberry pop tart. Chai latte was delicious, not too sweet, not too spicy and I love the variety of steamers available for kids. They even offered to make them kid temp! Space was cozy and had plenty of tables when we went (10am weekday).

Love the cinnamon rolls, pecan rolls, pickle/ham puffs, and cookies! Also had a cake made here for my husband's birthday and they went above & beyond the expectation with edible molded fish and deer antlers on it!

I like to support local and have always gone to lily and ivy's for my weekend coffee run and donuts…read morefor the kids, great bakery and coffee cafe for that. But my experience with a recent cake order for my Mother's 60th Birthday has tainted my opinion. I inquired through their Facebook messenger about cake pricing and my vision for the cake I wanted to order, I wanted a beach themed carrot cake that had a beach themed quote. It was discussed and agreed upon in messenger as well as over the phone that this could be done. I wanted the quote "60 years young and still chasing the sun" because my mother loves tropical vacationing. I made sure to ask over the phone if this quote would fit and work for the size cake I was ordering and it was said that it would work even if it had to be put on printed sign of some sort. When I went to pick up my cake the owner was not in store and a young gentleman gave me my cake, it was wrapped in plastic and I just got the cake and left. I noticed in the car that the writing on the cake said "Happy 60th Birthday" which isn't at all what I wanted the cake to say. I thought that maybe there was a sign on the side of the cake with the quote so I drove home and opened it up. There was nowhere on the cake that had the quote I asked for and was told would be on it, instead it only said happy 60th birthday. Otherwise, the beach theme decorating was well done. I messaged the owner right away about the quote and she replied that she was not in town and had an employee helping with cake decorating. I didn't have enough time to print off my own quote and add to the cake so I was very disappointed and had to explained to my mom how I wanted it to say the quote I had picked out but that's not what I got. Overall the carrot cake was good flavor and beach theme was well done I was just disappointed about the quote and not being contacted about it before picking up. if my original quote couldn't work I would have picked a shorter one that would have worked! This was a Saturday pick up so on Monday I messaged the owner again asking if there could be some sort of reimbursement for not getting the order I placed correctly.. she said she needed to talk to her employee about it and got back to me the next day saying I could have a $10 refund or $20 in store credit. I chose the $20 in store credit and gave my address for her to send it. It had been two weeks and I still had not seen anything in the mail. I reached back out asking if it had been sent because I wanted to make sure it wasn't lost in the mail. She responded that her employee was supposed to send out the mail but she would check and make sure. I waited another week and a half with still nothing in the mail. I reached back out and said that I still had not received anything and that I would appreciate the refund by the end of the week or I would unfortunately need to leave a review as I don't think others would like this experience.. It has been two weeks with no response and no reimbursement. In total it has been a month and a half with no resolution. On top of that when I ordered the cake the amount she told me over the phone would be $51.50 but what was actually charged was $59.22 I asked why the charge on my card was more than what she told me over the phone and she claimed that it was processing fees but the receipt that I was emailed said it was for a tip.. so I was charged for a tip that I never agreed upon before even receiving the cake to see if it was worth tipping for. I usually like to support local but I will never recommend ordering a cake from lily and ivy's with the experience Iv had if you want it decorated a certain way.
