My background is in Vet Med - I've been a licensed Vet Tech for 30+ years, working in specialty medicine and academia. So I know the questions to ask, and I did A LOT of research before landing on VVet. I had just moved to the area and knew no one!! They came recommended to me when I started researching and asking other colleagues, "Who do you know in the Knoxville area that is at a great general practice?" This clinic came up a few times, and a few names were dropped. So I read up on the doctors' names given and chose Dr. Dugan. I've had all three of my pets seen there. The first was my soul dog, Ember, who had CKD (chronic kidney disease). She was the reason I needed to find a practice ASAP when I arrived here. She required monthly evaluations and more frequent ones at the end. Dr. Dugan was patient with me, the high detail very stressed Moma. She and her team did almost everything in the room with me. She was gentle with my kids, got down on the ground to ease their anxiety, and gave me time for all my many questions. Her assistants were also gentle and nice. When the worst day of my life came, I wanted to spend the day with my girl and schedule the euthanasia at the end of the day. I was told she unfortunately wouldn't be available at that time, but another doctor could fit me in that evening. I, of course, had to accept that fact because I wanted that time with her that day, but knew it couldn't wait over the weekend. But when I arrived, she and her assistant had made themselves available. Knowing my girl wouldn't have to see an unfamiliar face meant the world to me. They were both kind and compassionate and were willing to accommodate my requests of not coming into the clinic to perform the euthanasia, so we could stay outside in a familiar setting my dog loved (in the car). It was raining, and they still did it!! This is a 5-star service! Since then, my boys (cat and dog) have both needed some care, and each time the service has been great! I had to use Dr. Morrison for one urgent visit, and she, too, was patient and caring with my pup. I'm glad they were recommended to me for general care.

If either of my dogs needed surgery in the future, I would choose another facility. My Australian Shepherd needed surgery for a partial ligament tear in her rear knee. The initial consultation went well, and surgery was scheduled for 10:00 AM. I received text confirmations of the appointment. The day before surgery, Central sent me a text changing the time to 12:00 PM. While I was driving there for the 12:00 appointment, Central called asking if I was still coming. I explained that THEY had texted me changing the time. I was told they had been having problems with their software and they would have to see if they could still get her in. This was very concerning. This wasn't a routine appointment--it was surgery. I didn't want my dog being "squeezed in" because of an administrative mistake. They were ultimately able to perform the surgery, and I proceeded, although nervously. I spoke with the office manager, who apologized but couldn't provide much explanation about what happened or what was being done to prevent it. She mentioned they "may just start calling people instead." To be fair, the surgery itself went well. My primary concerns are with Central's administrative and communication systems, not the veterinary care my dog received. Unfortunately, the problems continued. For weeks I received confusing texts and emails regarding random appointments and account balances--sometimes showing money owed and other times showing no balance. I called and was told I only had one upcoming appointment and everything else was fine, yet the messages continued. Over the course of my dog's treatment, I paid Central more than $5,000. Near the end of treatment, I specifically asked the front desk whether my balance was zero and was told yes. At our FINAL appointment, because I live approximately an hour away and wouldn't be returning, I again specifically asked whether I owed anything. Again, I was told my balance was $0. About a week later, I received a message saying I owed $200+. A few hours later, Central sent another message showing my balance was $0, so naturally I assumed the first message was another system error that had been corrected. Over the following weeks, more inconsistent balance messages arrived. Given the previous errors, two in-person confirmations that I owed nothing, and Central's own message showing a $0 balance, I believed these were more system errors. Then I received a letter threatening to send the $200+ balance to collections. I called and explained everything, including the contradictory messages and repeated confirmations from their own staff that my balance was zero. I was essentially told the messages "may or may not have been sent," but their system now showed I owed the money. My frustration isn't really about $200. It's about being expected to bear the consequences of repeated administrative errors after spending more than $5,000. I specifically did my part by asking multiple times whether my account was paid in full, and Central told me it was. Their own electronic communication also showed a $0 balance. Again, I am not claiming my dog's surgery was performed improperly. My concerns are the scheduling error surrounding her surgery, weeks of contradictory communications, inconsistent billing information, and ultimately a collections threat after repeatedly being told my account was paid in full. When you're entrusting a veterinary hospital with a beloved pet and paying thousands of dollars for surgery, accurate scheduling, reliable communication, and accurate billing aren't minor details. They're part of the service you should be able to depend on. Based on my experience, I would not choose Central Veterinary Hospital again for a future surgical procedure.

When I first went to Magnolia Animal Clinic, I met with a vet for my first visit, but after six years, I haven't ever seen or spoken to one. The receptionists are hit or miss, sometimes they are professional and friendly, other times they have a lot of attitude and behave like I'm bothering them. When I bring my dog there for his check-ups I, unfortunately, often get this grumpy female vet tech (probably in her 50's, about 5'4" with long brown hair that is always in a ponytail). After six years, she has never introduced herself, acts like I'm inconvienicing her by asking questions, rushes off with my dog, and returns just as abruptly with hardly a word. I'm a pretty understanding person so I'm usually like, well she is probably having a bad day, maybe she is going through a difficult time, perhaps she is burnt out....so I typically let it roll. I have been fortunate not to have any problems with my dog, and they said everything looks great. However, my most recent visit on August 5th was terrible. The grumpy vet tech came back with my dog and said he needed oral surgery or he would likely die from congestive heart failure. Just like that, zero compassion or kindness. My dog is 14, and I knew that small chihuahuas are prone to having bad teeth in old age, despite my regular attention to brushing his teeth. But I had no idea it could cause heart failure. I wish that in the six years I had been going to this vet, they had taken the time to explain that tooth brushing is not enough and that preventitive dental cleanings were necessary. Initially, I scheduled an appointment with them to get his oral surgery, but I was really worried about the anesthesia and their behavior. They didn't take my concerns seriously at all. I realized I couldn't trust these people to take care of my dog, and I was worried he wouldn't survive the surgery under their lack of care. So I sought out a second opinion at The Gentle Doctor of East Tennessee, based on a friend's recommendation. I immediately felt better after just five minutes on the phone with them. They were incredibly kind, professional, and before I even asked said they would like to run bloodwork to determine if my dog could handle the anesthesia before proceeding with oral surgery (something Magnolia never offered, even after I expressed concern). When I took my dog in, I met with the actual vet. She walked me through everything in a kind and professional manner. They ran the bloodwork, and things came back normal, so they proceeded with his surgery. They explained everything from beginning to end, called during surgery to ask about tooth extractions, and even called when my dog woke up to let me know when I could come to pick him up. Their rates are cheaper, the staff is way more professional, and I know I made the right decision for my pup. I will never go back to Magnolia and am disappointed in myself for putting my dog in harms way by using this vet clinic.

Drs Alexander and Lentz are both wonderful with diagnosing problems and giving the medicine and instructions to handle the problems. We found our kitten at 2 weeks old and they were great with answering all our questions, keeping us educated on how to care for a bottle baby and gave us a great deal on her spay and vaccines. My oldest cat is nearly 20 and has been struggling with some health issues. They have been great with listening to all her issues and doing thorough, careful examinations with her. They don't push unnecessary medications or procedures and are great with suggesting alternative solutions to issues, not just assuming they need meds. The staff is always nice and we love the doctors and vet techs! Also, they never fail to call and check up on their patients after their appointments and are quick to answer questions and concerns.

I will forever be grateful for the care she gave my little girl. Thanks to Dr. Wulforst, I was lucky enough to have another six wonderful years with Maddie. I will always be thankful for that extra time and for the high quality of life we were able to maintain right up until Maddie's last month. Over those six years, Dr. Wulforst and her staff were consistently incredible. I honestly cannot think of a single negative experience I had with the clinic. Every person I interacted with was kind, compassionate, helpful, and genuinely cared about Maddie. It never felt like she was just another patient. They knew her, they loved on her, and they treated her like she mattered. What stands out to me most about Dr. Wulforst is how much she truly cares about her patients. During Maddie's last few weeks, she did everything she could to accommodate us and make sure Maddie got whatever treatment she needed, even when she wasn't scheduled to be seen. There were several occasions when she was able to squeeze Maddie in for an urgent same-day visit, which meant so much to me during such a stressful time. Then came Maddie's last day, which was obviously one of the hardest days of my life. Dr. Wulforst actually came in on a Sunday to be there for us. She went so far above and beyond to make sure Maddie was as comfortable as possible and that my mom, sister, and I were okay, too. She let us take as much time as we needed and spent so much extra time with us before, during, and after the procedure. We never felt rushed or like we were being hurried through what was such an incredibly difficult goodbye. She gave us the time and space we needed to say goodbye to our girl. My mom has had dogs her entire life and even commented that she had never seen that level of care from a veterinarian. I completely agree. My sister is also considering transitioning the care of her three dogs to Riverside Vet Clinic/Dr. Wulforst despite it being a much further drive compared to her current veterinary clinic. I also want to give a huge thank-you to the entire team at Riverside Veterinary Clinic. The staff has been wonderful from day one. Everyone is kind, patient, responsive, and genuinely caring. They have always made me feel comfortable asking questions and never made me feel like I was being difficult or ridiculous. They were always happy to help, and I could tell that Maddie was genuinely cared for every time we walked through the door. The clinic and staff are such a big part of what made my experience so wonderful. Having a veterinarian you trust is incredibly important, but having an entire team that you know will treat your pet with kindness and compassion makes an enormous difference, especially when things get difficult. I genuinely cannot thank Dr. Wulforst and everyone at Riverside Veterinary Clinic enough for everything they did for Maddie and for me. I will forever be grateful that Dr. Wulforst helped give me six more years with my sweet girl and cared for her so wonderfully throughout those years and right up until the very end.
