Only 4 stars as I live in north London and I'm not sure it's worth a way out of the way trip, but definitely worth a stop if you are in the area.

Around four years ago my friends and I walked past here on one of the green chain walks around South London...and we all thought it was a shame that this place was all boarded up and empty. Yesterday, we were walking in the other direction (this time on the capital ring walk...) and it was a lovely surprise to see that it is all in use. Now they have a café on the ground floor, selling cakes, teas and pretty decent ice-cream. Apparently if you pay £2.50 you can climb up to the top and explore, and hear about the history of Severndroog. The lady in the tea room also mentioned that it is possible to hire the whole place for events / weddings. Apparently Severndroog Castle's opening times are 11:00am - 3pm on Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays Oct - March. So pop in if you're wandering along one of South London's pretty walks.

On a scorching hot day in London, I was…read moredesperate to find an air conditioned place to hang out for a few hours so I decided to visit The Banqueting House and I am so glad that I did! It's a small place, but full of so much history. You will enter downstairs where you can pick up an audioguide to use throughout your visit. Once that's sorted, you move into an undercroft area where you can watch a film about the history of the house, which was quite interesting. The house was used as a performance space for royalty, so there is a small exhibition about these performances and the beautiful historic sets and costumes. I visited in the summer following Pride Month, so there was also a small exhibit about LGBT kings which was interesting as it's not something I've seen at a museum or palace before. The real magic happens when you finish in the undercroft and move upstairs where you encounter the breathtaking Rubens ceiling. It's stunning! Here you can use your audioguide which takes you through the history of the palace and the symbolism of the painting. Try and snag a spot on a beanbag so you can lay down and really get a good look. Overall, I had a great time here. The staff were so polite, the history was fascinating and well presented, and there are sparkling clean bathrooms and air conditioning, so it's the perfect place to spend an hour or two on your visit to London.

This is home to the only surviving in-situ ceiling painting by Flemish artist, Sir Peter Paul Rubens (and it is impressive!). If you only have a short time in London. I probably wouldn't put this on your top 10 list. But, if you have some extra time, I would definitely recommend a stop. When you first enter you can watch a short video on the history of the space. Then climb the stairs to the banqueting room. The ceiling painting is mind-blowing. They have bean bags you can lay in to take in the expansive beauty of the painting. The Banqueting House was built between 1619-1622 and designed by Inigo Jones. It was the first structure in England to be completed in a neo-classical style. Also, it is the only surviving banqueting house in England and the only remaining structure of the Palace of Whitehall. At the time banqueting houses were used to entertain (not just eat). Royalty would attend royal receptions, ceremonies, mosques in these grand buildings. The Banqueting House was also the last place Charles I walked through on his way to be executed just outside.

They have a couple of bars in there depending on what shows are on will affect which bars they open. Sometimes the staff are not sure which one is open until told by the evening supervisor. Speaking of bars I was at the venue for a show and with my ticket you were meant to get a discount on wines, beers and spirits, however the bar staff were oblivious to this and it was not until a supervisor came along they knew what was going on. I have been to several productions in this venue from school performances to performances from seasoned actors and have always enjoyed them. They often have art exhibitions in the upper part of the venue and sometimes these are free to view but not always. What I like about the venue is that they have, what I consider to be a friends of Fairfield Halls work force. These people look as though they are retired (apologise if they are not and I am doing them a disservice) who man the stairs and lobby areas directing people to the right areas of the venue for there activity. In terms of parking there is limited parking at the front of the venue which is £5 for an evening stay and I have no idea about the prices during the day. I would say that East Croydon station is a 5/10minute walk dependant on your speed and it is also served by good public transport out front. There is a car park below the venue and I believe you can get discount for parking their when you buy something from one of the concessions within the food area, but I cannot remember which it is, sorry. A good venue to see a show or a tribute band or the local schools production, my it be around forever, as long as I am anyway.

We had a fantastic day at Leeds Castle! This visit was made possible through a NCL shore excursion…read morefrom the Port of Tilbury. It usually takes about an hour to get there via the M25, but we encountered an accident on our way to the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge. We ended up taking a detour through the Dartford Tunnel instead. Our coach driver was able to make up some time. Our guide was great at pointing out everything she saw of interest along the way. She told our group about the history of Leeds Castle as a preview of what we were about to see. Once we arrived, she walked us up to the admission area and gift shop. We received our wrist bands. We also bought 2 bags of bird feed based on her recommendation. Do not leave this store without buying some. The families of birds at Leeds Castle will be extremely happy to see you. I'm not going to get into the age of the castle, nor its history. It's way too much information. Just know that it's something you must see. The interior was last updated in the Art Deco style of the 1930s by Lady Baillie and her French designer Stéphane Boudin. All of her staterooms were beautifully restored. Another cool part of the castle is the Eleanor of Castile exhibit that features a life size AI avatar of the Queen. Ask her a question and she will reply with either an answer or a stern dismissal. It's certainly a challenge to anyone who dares to ask her anything. The garden and grounds of the property are the biggest highlight here. There's so much beauty all around this castle. I wish we could have stayed longer. We were totally amazed by all the birds, ducks, coots, geese, and swans. The flowers in the many gardens are even more spectacular during the springtime. There are so many attractions including a maze, grotto, dog collar museum, birds of prey center, and playgrounds for the kids. There are many activities as well as scheduled falconry displays throughout the day. You can even book a stay at one of the lodges and cottages as well as the Maiden Tower. How lovely is that? It's also popular as a wedding venue. The Castle View Restaurant is available for tourists and guests, and there are some fast food options as well. I could definitely spend a whole weekend here. The owls at the Birds of Prey Center were particularly interesting. I really enjoyed seeing Zorro the Spectacled Owl. I would have stayed for the falconry demonstration, but there just wasn't enough time to see it all. Do plan to stay all day if you have the time. It's so worth the drive from London.

For example, tram to castle, audio guide, and more. Basically a lot of fees after general admission. I would suggest visit once that it is due to many fees. The entrance is about 20 minutes walk to castle. But it does go through the garden. There are stations for kids to play along the way. The castle is at middle of the pond. It surrounded by water and an entrance bridge. The castle was build and expanded during the history. The front castle is kind of small. The back castle is connecting by another bridge with larger rooms. The visit takes 2.5 hours due to long walk. That includes the maze garden, aviary. Seems like the owner like bird.

It has lovely gardens, with a little lake and the function venue in a sort of low barn and conservatory, where they take care of the service, meal and dancing, expertly shifting between each stage of the day without any of the guests noticing. The lawn is walled in and dotted with cherry blossom trees, and with pretty little love seats and wrought iron benches making for perfect wedding photos. It's not geared towards anything absolutely huge - the capacity for dinner was about 80, and 150 for drinking and dancing later on. They're quite flexible about what services you use, with a selection of caterers for you to choose from. Also on the site is a very dinky little cottage, and it is here that the bride can get ready prior to the wedding ceremony, and where the couple can spend their first married night. I think this is quite a nice touch, and it's a realy clean, cosy little house. All in all, a very nice venue, and one worth checking out if you're in the early planning stages of a wedding!
