This is the attached hotel to the Blair County Convention Center and for a convention hotel it's small. Now however, it's aging. For the positives the staff here have always been good and the lobby area is nice. Parking is adequate unless the convention center event is large, but even then, you can park up in the main lot. The issues here have begun to add up due to the hotels age and it is in need of a renovation. Pool has never reopened post-COVID from what I've seen. The rooms have probably not been renovated in a decade based on the paint and carpet colors, with the furniture showing wear. Our room door at times didn't fully close and the wallpaper was starting to peel. The TV was small and the interface they use didn't fully work right. The beds were reasonably comfortable, but the nightstands electric sockets were loose. Sink is located outside of the bathroom, with the main part of the bathroom being the most worn. Our toilet a few times would not stop running after a flush. Rust was clearly visible below the tubs soap dish, and the tubs anti-slip coating was failing. The paint on the ceiling was also giving up. Our room did have a nice patio. Overall, for an attached convention center hotel, these rooms should be much nicer. Most of this hotel's problems would be fixed by a major renovation which is needed soon. I would only stay here if the price was right for now. read more

Nice hotel attached to the Blair County Convention Center. Easy parking and check in. Room was decently sized for our group of 4 and the beds were super comfortable! Even had a foldout sofa bed and mini fridge. Convention center was just a short walk for us as we stayed on the first floor. Hotel had a pool and hot tub/whirlpool but we didn't use those this stay. Room heater was a bit wonky as Friday night we were boiling hot and that night we were freezing. After fiddling with the settings we were able to get it to a comfortable 68 degrees. Unit just seemed super sensitive but nothing some fidgeting didn't fix. There were some food offerings at certain times of the day in the lobby (I think it was their version of a dine in station. Just someone behind the bar reheating food) and a 24 hour convenience nook with beverages and amenities. We didn't use either of those this trip but nice to have. Overall nice hotel close to the convention center with super friendly and helpful staff. Looking forward to staying here if we attend another convention read more

We've stayed at this Marriott Courtyard several times over the years and have liked it. They've now renovated the lobby area, and added a food service bistro. However, the rooms have not been renovated. Our room had broken grout (and a clumsy silicone grout job) in the bathroom. The bathtub was rusty. Despite the listing of amenities that I looked at on the Marriott website before arriving, there was no microwave oven in our queen room; only king rooms get them now. Some other systems appear to have been "renovated": the telephone started flashing an alert in the middle of the night. Worst was the HVAC system; it was noisy (as is not unusual in chain hotel rooms), but the problem was that it was simply uncontrollable. Five visits to the front desk and two visits to our room by their maintenance guy did not fix the problem. They kindly offered to move us to another room, but it was our last night, and we had no reason to believe that another room wouldn't have the same problems, as they all have the pretty much same wireless HVAC controllers. The current staff are super nice folks, and tried their best to help us, but seem not properly supported by the Marriott corporation. read more

I typically stay at Courtyards and Hilton Garden Inns during my business travels - and so I was thrilled to find a Courtyard in Altoona, PA for my recent trip there. Alas, three stars is all I can award for this hotel. The lobby area is very nice and updated to meet Courtyard's new marketing theme: "It's a New Stay." Unfortunately, the rooms themselves leave much to be desired. My room was on the second floor. In the bathroom, there was a section of ceiling that had been patched - and something was peeling off the patched area. I touched the ceiling and a good bit of the material flaked off - like dead peeling skin. The flat panel HD TVs have no HD channels/programming available to them. And the remote control for my room was hard to use. You had to press the power button really hard and hold it for about 3 seconds to get the TV to come on. And if you wanted to cycle through the channels going up - you were okay. But if you wanted to cycle through the channels downward, you had to slowly, push down and press hard on the down channel button. The room did have a small refrigerator. The bed was reasonably comfortable, although I would have preferred something with a firmer mattress. The AC wall unit was set to 60 degrees when I arrived. But there was no way the air coming out of that unit was 60 degrees, I had to to turn on the fan full time to the room to cool off and not be stuffy. Free internet access is provided - both via ethernet and wireless. The room was fairly clean. They really need to do some work on improving this hotel. The staff were a bright spot. This Courtyard is attached to the local Civic/Convention Center. I have never seen that before and I thought that was pretty cool. Definitely, if you are attending an event at the convention center or nearby, this is the play to stay. At first glance, the property looks fairly new, but talking with staff, they less than 15y old. Rooms were fresh and clean. The Bistro (restaurant) was excellent. I just hate that they close before 10p. The lobby was excellent. Modern furniture was comfortable and placed well to care for the flow of traffic and plentiful, especially for groups coming back from a night out or events at the convention center. My only complaint is the gym and it is minor. The gym is too small and there were no wipes. I am a gym snob, so that is important too me. Otherwise I highly recommend. read more

This is a lovely hotel. We are traveling through the area and needed to find a place to stay. The rate we found on the Marriott site was the best rate among all the sites. The evening manager was very friendly and gave us lots of ideas of things to do while in Altoona, although on a Sunday evening, there is not much to do. The evening bartender was very friendly too. Rooms are nice and the lobby and cafe area are spacious and clean. It is connected to the convention center so I am sure they need all this space when an event is going on. The location is near the interstate and near basic necessities like shopping and dining. If you want to be downtown, it is about a 10-15 minute drive. I recommend this Courtyard very highly. read more

Comfortable and quiet which are the main things at a hotel. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were clean with super comfortable beds. The chair and sofa in our room were clean and comfortable. I would definitely stay here again. It is located just a couple of minutes from plenty of restaurants, some shopping and the Altoona Curve's stadium (the AA team for the Pittsburgh Pirates). read more

Compared to other Courtyards that I've stayed at, I'd give this one 3-stars. It's a nice hotel, & I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again, but it's a little outdated ... carpets were somewhat worn / stained, room furniture was scratched up pretty good, & maybe a little mold in bathroom. I've stayed at this property for many years and have always had wonderful service, a good room, and nice drink (on occasion). This visit was not exception. Everything was as good as you can expect from a Courtyard. For those not venturing here before, it is not in near walking distance of anything so be prepared to drive. I will say that it has breathtaking views in the Winter when the snow has piled up on the mountainside as the hotel is perched on a hill. It is also right next door to the Convention Center so if you are attending a conference, it is the perfect location. read more

And this is the only hotel we stayed at with a desk clerk with an attitude and and no respect for the customer's. We have never been so disrespected . She treated us horrible. Plus the rooms were unclean our jaccuzi leaked through the wall into our bathroom, bathroom wall stained from water damage, mold in shower stall, Dated and stained furniture. And the Suite, the heater wouldn't turn down or off , plus unclean . Nothing in suite extra , no silverware, cups . Nothing. My daughter, son inlaw, my husband and myself. Avoid this hotel at all cost!!! My son goes to Penn State so we stay in Altoona often. This was our first time at this hotel. To start I was woken up by the front desk in the middle of the night to ask me if my tub was running (are you kidding me). Second we had no hot water it was luke warm at best. Third the iron was dirty and ruined my wife's blouse. When I told the front desk about this their attitude was oh well sorry. A few days later we had an issue with the bill and the person on the phone got snippy with me and hung up on me (really). Spoke to the hotel manager and they were ok with that (really again). Avoid this place and stay at the Holiday Inn they are so much nicer and price is way better for same type of hotel. read more

Firstly the staff is excellent. They saved this Courtyard from getting a lesser review. The first room I got had mold due to a leak from the roof. Called front desk and they immediately moved us without any discussion. The decor has not been updated since the 90's. The pool was being renovated. I've been traveling a lot lately for work and have stayed in several Courtyard by Marriott hotels. The lobby area is new and inviting but the rooms are old and outdated. The carpet is dirty and gross with stains. The furniture is scratched and old. The decor is horrendous. There is plenty of parking, the staff seem nice although I didn't have much interaction with them. I only gave two stars because of the room. Pretty disappointing for a Marriott property. The comfort inn down the street was much nicer. read more

Booked on Priceline, it was EXTREMELY WELL PRICED. There is a restaurant, bar, indoor pool, and gym on premises. I stayed in the king room w my husband. It was VERY NICE, and pretty big. The lobby market is open all night, the kitchen closed at 10. We enjoyed our stay. That had YouTube and Netflix equipped TVs, which is what we ended up watching. read more

As of 8/13/19, in room 323 the rug is filthy, the tub has chipped and peeling paint, the mirrors have sneeze marks on it , the walls have marks that look like someone exploded a soda bottle on them and the balcony was filthy with ash tray stuff. I have photos but don't know how to post them. All microwaves have been removed as they broke instead of being replaced. The manager said they are planning a 20 million dollar renovation in Jan. She said they have not done any updates in 20 years and it shows but holy cow they could clean the place! read more

Terrible!! Room was not clean. The sliding glass door had fingerprints all over it. Mold in the bathroom. Coffee splatter (and other materials) splattered on the walls. No cups in room to brush your teeth. No tissues other than toilet paper. Went to the bar for a night cap and bite to eat. Asked for a vodka martini, they didn't have dry vermouth. The only positive was the bar tender who was very gracious and polite. In their menu they Had french fries with three different dipping sauces. So I ordered that. They did not have french fries so the bartender improvised and deep-fried breakfast potatoes for me and gave me catch up to go with them. Went back up to our room only to listen to kids running on the floor above us up until 11 o'clock. And then the next morning we got to listen to the garbage truck emptying the dumpster is below our room at 6 o'clock in the morning. AND to top it off, we paid $200 for the night! When I checked out I asked the front desk who I speak to about my stay because I was not happy and they told me the general manager and gave me his business card. At no time did anybody ask me how my stay was. Do not book here!! read more

Stayed at the Courtyard in Altoona last between meetings in Ebensburg nearby. The room was larger than I am used to from comparable hotels. The room was also very clean and in very good shape. The only things keeping the Courtyard in Altoona from getting a fourth star are that I was unable to get my laptop connected the wireless. Even though I was able to get a weak signal from the Convention Center next door. They also don't start serving breakfast until 6:30 in the morning which doesn't do any good when you need to be on site at 7. The breakfast setup did look very nice, although that might've just teased me more. So the Courtyard in Altoona gets a solid 3. read more

Stopped here randomly after driving all day. Walked in and asked if they had 2 queen beds available. After seeing our family walk in they called up to our room to switch us to one with 2 queens and a pull out. Having stopped pretty randomly, we didn't know this was an option or we would have asked for this! AWESOME!! Who does that? They told us that they didn't have many check ins until the next day, so they still had the bigger rooms! The kid who drew the short straw for the middle of the bed thanks you! For only sleeping there for a few winks, then heading back out on the road, amazing. We also hit up the pool and hot tub before they closed. Warm pool water. Kids got their crazies out. I swam around a bunch to work out my legs from sitting all day. Then, the hot tub. The little things that control the direction of the jets seemed to be missing. Honestly, it was the best thing ever. Just move your shoulder blade, or back where your body is stressed from driving all day in front of one of those. So nice. My shoulders felt like jello after that. I felt like I should have tipped my masseuse. It really helped going into the next leg of our drive and tons of traffic much better. I would totally go back! ***FYI... It is RIGHT next to a convention center (50 steps door to door maybe). There was nothing going on there when we stayed here. That could alter your stay. read more

Nice place! Affordable, clean rooms, good/quiet location. The staff was super friendly. The beds are super comfy. The Whirlpool Tub rooms are fantastic. My only critique would be the over priced breakfast. In most hotels the breakfast is free but here the breakfast will run about $14. But like I said, that was the only critique I had. The canned response from management is a slap in the face to their customers. "The Courtyard brand has been designed to offer a modern a la carte menu in a bistro-style concept in order to provide a wider range of options and healthier selections as an alternative to a free." We weren't the only ones upset as many other customers in the hotel got tired of waiting in line and left. A few others even complained about not having free coffee in the lobby. Why should I get bad food service at a hotel when I can go to an actual starbucks and get bad service? Just an FYI, the food offered was not anywhere near "healthier", just overpriced. "In additional the our delectable Starbucks coffee selections in the Bistro, we still offer the convenience of brewing a notable individual cup of coffee in all guest rooms." This was the same comment made to one of the other customers when he complained. I will repeat his words: "When you come to my room and make my coffee, then I'll come back to this dump". He was obviously upset. In summary: -The regular coffee offered at the "bistro" was terrible (entirely TOO dark/bitter) -The food and coffee was TOO expensive (almost $5 for latte and $7 for a sandwich) -The wait was entirely TOO long to order and then TOO long to receive our coffee. Not only will we recommend not staying at this hotel, but any Marriott with a "bistro". read more

I have mixed feelings about this Marriott. First off, it's way overpriced. To charge $30 more to "upgrade" from two queens to a single king is questionable business practices at best. The room is nice enough, but not anywhere near the 159 a night they wanted. Your definitely not paying for a nice tv, as the roughly 24" just doesn't cut it these days. You're also definitely not paying for breakfast as it's not included in the room rate. What a joke. The upside was a modern feeling room. The pool looked pretty nice although I didn't use it. If you're willing to pay for it, it's also nice having a whirlpool option available. If this courtyard was priced closer to the neighboring Hampton or holiday inn I'd still be here, however staff was unwilling to price match so they get one night out of me and somebody else can get the other 2 months worth of stays in this area that my job requires. read more

We stayed two nights and were quite happy. The hotel is located a little outside of the main area of Altoona but very conveniently located near the main roads. The room was clean and comfortable and the heating/ac system worked well and was quiet. The breakfast isn't included in the room, but the bistro in the lobby does a nice breakfast sandwich with a side of fruit. It's cheaper to go to a local diner for breakfast, but sometimes the convenience is worth it. Very nice staff in all departments with which we interacted. A very good value for the price. read more

Rooms were not clean. Bathrooms and furniture were outdated. One of the two rooms I had smelled of cigarette smoke. The other room had a dirty wet carpet smell. The furniture was unusable because it was old and unstable. The staff were polite and friendly. The location is amazing. Big D movie theatre across the street. Many restaurants in town to choose from. But if you want rest I suggest you go some where else. The beds gave me neck and back pains. read more

Let me first start out by saying the front desk staff are very pleasant and genuinely care about the guests. Unfortunately that's where it all ends with this hotel. I travel frequently and prefer to stay at Marriott properties. The other Courtyard Marriott's I stay at are always great. The Courtyard Marriott in Altoona has dated rooms and furnishings, dirty carpeting, mold in the bathrooms and many of the rooms smell like smoke. On my most recent stay, the room number sign was missing off the wall so you had to assume it was the right room. I read where other reviewers indicated mold in the bathrooms as well. Every room I have stayed in at this property has had mold in the bathroom. Also, the grounds keeping/landscaping is always untidy and overgrown which isn't a great first impression when pulling up to the hotel. By the way.....please trim or remove the shrub that is on the corner as you exit the parking lot. You are unable to see left when turning out of the hotel parking lot. I would not recommend this hotel. There are other hotels in Altoona that are in better condition. What will happen next is a canned response form the general manager. I think it is great that management takes the time to read the reviews but they need to take it a step further and actually take the comments and do something to improve the property. One final note.....if you are a Marriott Rewards member, for some reason I always have a problem with receiving credit to my Marriott Rewards account for my stays at this property. Every single time I need to file a missing stay report with Marriott. I never have this problem at any other Marriott property. read more
