When I spoke to the front desk, the gal interrupted me defensively to explain why there was noise. I had to run the air conditioning to mask the noise from the patio and also the road behind the hotel; the result was that I had to listen to the droning air conditioning and that my room was freezing. I also experienced issues with printing a tax exempt form and the staff finding it. The printer I used printed only a portion of the form so the staff suggested I email it to him. He said he received it and signed it and took the taxes and fees off the bill. The day of my departure, the occupancy tax was present on my bill. I visited the front desk and another staff said he found my form and it would be taken care of. An hour or so later, the bill hadn't been corrected so I called and spoke with another clerk (day shift) who stated she would look for the tax exemption form and take care of the bill. It was closer to my departure time and still no correction so I called down again and she admitted she couldn't find the form and wasn't sure if it was lost and the email deleted so I sent it again before the situation was handled. I complained to an area manager who emailed back apologizing and saying my feedback was valuable and would be used for training purposes, etc ... The response wasn't helpful considering how little sleep I got and how dissatisfied I was with my stay. Sometimes things happen but it's how they're handled that makes a difference. At check-in, if my room preference couldn't be granted, this should have been clearly stated. When a complaint was made about the noise from the patio, the desk clerk shouldn't be defensive and interrupt, rather she should have listened and, if possible, offer a solution. I have no idea what the problem was with the tax exemption form but two people said they had the form and it would be handled but then it wasn't. The third person, the morning of checkout, did everything possible to help and was friendly about it so thank you. In the end, Sue, the morning of departure, was friendly and helpful; the unseen housekeeping staff was great as my room was very clean. The door, however, was broken as turning the knob down wouldn't open it -- only pulling it up worked. The shower was great. The bed was uncomfortable and the bedding too thin. Breakfast was definitely better than at other nearby hotels -- more choices, the items seemed of better quality, and were more attractively presented. I'm disappointed with my experience and recall having similarly disappointing experiences at this property years ago which is why it's been so long since I returned.

It's also sold-out many times during the week which means we book as early as possible when we know we're headed to Altoona. Checking in is usually easy and fast, the rooms are clean, breakfast is fine, and the staff is familiar with tax exemptions and accurately removes the appropriate charges. This last time, my sink was clogged and the cheerful, helpful maintenance man came up to my room immediately upon his arrival and cleared it out and also washed the sink out afterward. The front desk staff was friendly, the housekeeping staff was effective, and my stay was a pleasant one. I also like the TV stations at Holiday Inn more than other hotels. I don't watch TV at home so having TCM is nice when I'm away working. Thanks for providing a nice home away from home.

We arrived a bit late this year right at 3pm for check in and were met with a line and some flustered staff. They got to us quickly and we were in our room after a short wait. I think we had a started room remodel. Floors and decor were fine but the furniture, esp the dresser/fridge area was very worn with broken wood splinters galore when you opened it. We also had a broken desk chair and broken/faulty towel rack. The free breakfast is again a nice perk and they kept up pretty well with the crowd this year. We did notice one of the waffle makers broke, as in the timer stopped working, but time that on your phone and its fine. Offerings were the same as last year, eggs, sausage, potatoes, the staples. Parking was at a premium this year due to the freak polar vortex snow the area got. A lot of the parking was taken up by huge snow piles making spaces harder to find or use the "I think this is a spot?" and try to not block anyone in or get towed. No guarantee a spot would be there later. I heard the garage deck was also a mess. I still love the hotel and its location but a lack of updates/remodel after a year, broken/dated furniture and a closed pool area that is just used as storage is a bit of a let down. Follow that by mediocre plowing in the lots and it just made this year average. Nothing really stood out but nothing was overly bad.

It is currently just starting its full transition to the Country Inn & Suites flag, so as of this review, not many major changes have been made, but badly needed major renovations are planned for all parts of this hotel. There is a decent amount of parking unless a major event is occurring, but even then, you can use the convention centers main parking lot. Lobby area is nice and has a small convenience store with various items. The restaurant in the lobby has been replaced by the free hot breakfast, which consisted of eggs, sausage, potatoes, a waffle maker, yogurt, fruit, and various baked items. It was fine for a free hot breakfast, but they were having trouble keeping up with the volume needed due to the event I was attendings size. The pool remains closed. The rooms here will benefit the most from major renovations as they are outdated. Our room this year was better then previous years as we were on the first floor, which was convenient. Rooms do show wear and tear for the most part, and the TVs are small compared to more modern hotels. Sinks are located outside of the bathroom, and our shower had good water pressure with hot water all weekend. Overall, I'm looking forward to returning here when the renovations are complete to see the results. It is a little small for an attached convention center hotel, but there's not much that can be done due to the space available.

STOLEN: My Wedding & Engagement Rings Disappeared From My Room and Hotel Has Stonewalled Us for a…read moreMonth On August 25th, 2026, my wedding band and engagement ring were stolen from my room at this hotel. They have an estimated value around $7,000 making this a third-degree felony in PA. I left them on the bathroom counter in room 313 and stepped out around 5 PM. When I returned at 10 PM, my rings were gone. A staff member at the desk floated the idea that housekeeping might have "accidentally" swept the rings up while changing towels. However, the housekeeping staff is out the door by 4pm. There is no legitimate reason anyone should have been in that room. And with a skeleton crew, there were only a few people who had access and opportunity during that time. The night manager acted suspiciously and uncomfortably as if she and I were very close familiars, minutes before I noticed my rings gone. Oddly she wore two hands' worth of mismatched rings showing no cohesive aesthetic at all. Isn't that odd? The manager Sachin Patel told me to my face this has never happened before. Blatant lies. Comfort Suites in Altoona North has has other reviews that show an event of theft and an invasion of guest privacy. See photos of reviews. However, we were told that breakfast was at 830am only and we were told what would be served--eggs, bacon, hash browns, toast, and fruit cup. The breakfast we received consisted of disgusting industrial powdered scrambled eggs, white toast, and cold hash browns. There was bacon and fruit cups. The coffee was absolutely undrinkable and one of our party received their coffee in a dirty mug. At breakfast, after one of our party endured a cold shower, we told the staff there was no hot water. The innkeeper told us that the hot water heater was being worked on. No offer of refund or compensation due to the lack of hot water. The owner basically said there was nothing he could do--which meant there was nothing he wanted to do to make things right. So much for customer service. We understand that keeping an inn of this size running well is challenging. The inn's website belies what the inn actually is like. The reality is that the inn is dirty, musty, cluttered, and not kept up. Stay anywhere else.
