It is great for a nice dinner to sit down and enjoy a meal. We ordered quite a few appetizers and entrees to share as this was our last night here. We started with some raw oysters, smoke fish croquette ($9.50 each), focaccia bread ($9) with artichoke dip ($12), seafood chowder ($30), and the beef tartare ($28). Our favorites were probably the oysters and the focaccia bread with the spread. The oysters were fresh and we enjoyed trying them all. The focaccia bread went great with the spread as the bread was warm and the spinach dip was a nice cool dip to match. The bread was also perfect to dip in the chowder. For the entrees, we ordered a side of green beans ($14), fettuccine ($27|$37), Lumina Lamb Backstrap ($19 per 100g), and the Japanese wagyu ($85 per 100g). Our favorite out of everything was the wagyu. The lamb was delicious but it's not comparison after you have a bite of the wagyu. The Wagyu was cooked perfectly. The meat was not too thick of a piece to cut. The green beans were a great side to go along with the meal. The almonds added a nice crunch to the green beans. Overall, we enjoyed our meal very much. We felt that this restaurant was a perfect way to end our stay in Wellington!

We enjoyed a lovely dinner last night here at the Jardin Grill restaurant…read more Being a First Table diner with our two friends, we arrived here early by 6pm. Our friendly Chinese waitress took our entree and mains orders shortly afterwards. We all shared two octopus entrees which was quite nice and not too chewy. My nicely presented medium-rare chargrilled rib-eye steak mains tasted somewhat burnt. I asked our waitress afterwards whether it was supposed to have a burnt flavour, to which she replied it was supposed to be like that. Nevertheless I ate it all. The porta-bella mushroom side that accompanied it was however very small. Very expensive for $59.00 though!! My three other friends all seemingly enjoyed their meals with no complaints. However when paying the bill at the end of the evening, I was quite shocked to find out that I was charged $7.00 for a small glass of Diet Coke. Just as well everything was eventually charged half price for being a First Table diner!!

First time eating Kangaroo, tastes similar to a Ribeye. Wife had the lamb which I think was the best part of the entire meal. Also, if you enjoy wine. The three cheese tasting plate was great. I recommend the Brie, Cheddar, and Gorgonzola which paired nicely with the wine. If you are traveling from out of town and staying at the hotel I highly recommend you check it out. I thought it was better than the other options for dinner in the city.

I thought I would check it out. l took the bus out there, and it was a very comfortable and scenic ride. The restaurant is located in an area of Wellington known as the Lower Hutt, and located along the main strip. There are lots of little boutique shops and ethic restaurants. I actually found a cute set of wooden toy trucks and a tea set. Uncle Mike's is owned by an American who is from K.C., and just like Texans and Southerns, the folks from K. C. take their BBQ serious. I had the place to myself. It was very clean and had on display iconic American symbols. I elected to have ribs, beans, and fries. The BBQ is wet style, and it's pretty good. I prefer a dry rub with sauce on the side. Nonetheless, it was worth the trip; the beans were really good. When I go back, I plan to stop in again. Uncle Mike's wife was my hostess, and I enjoyed my conversation with her, and hearing her and Mike's story. I hope I convinced her to come visit the states...overall Lower Hutt is a Good place to eat and shop.

I never thought I'd get down-home Kansas City style BBQ in New Zealand of all places. Smoked, tender, juicy, fall-off-the-bone meat, with a killer sticky, tangy sauce that will make you want to gnaw your fingers off. The bullet is in the smoke, though. Holy crap, that's one helluva smoker they must have in the kitchen because you can taste the applewood right down to the bone. I was gnawing on that bone, I ain't gonna lie. The BBQ is brutally good. It's that good folks. I'm a blue-blooded American girl who loves her Southern BBQ. I prefer Louisiana versus Texas (wet vs. dry), but I think Uncle Mike may have converted me into a Kansas City fanatic. The portions are all-American, so the half rack was more than enough for little ol' me. My Kiwi partner chowed on some brisket bits drenched in sauce in a soft roll that was also damn good. Decent prices for the quality and portion size. Very nice and earnest service from the super-smiley server and his side-kick. We never felt underserved. p.s. We tried the buffalo wings and they were also authentic Buffalo, NY style wings. Spicy, tangy, with a refreshing dill-ranch dip on the side. I wish they had some celery sticks instead of a green salad on the side because that would have been even better and more NY...dipping is key!
