I have to say the bad reviews are 100% accurate. Our student had no issues academically or with regards to conduct and completed primary grades in another Catholic school, we are familiar with the system. This is an honest review sharing points that I find valuable to know ahead of time as this is a huge commitment for families Let's be clear, there is no "brotherhood" here. This is a study in what politics and donations can do in EVERY aspect. If you are not donating (in addition to tuition), alumni or "legacy" you should expect nothing. We realized this a few months in and gave our child time to come to it on his own. Six months later, we left. It's a hard lesson..learn from ours. Here is what they do not tell you: *Not all families pay full tuition-so be prepared to take it on the chin subsidizing others while they continue to ask you for more. *The school is proud of how many families travel from all over the Sacramento area to attend-yet they do not respect families time. I'm not sure who can handle fluctuating start and end times each week, but it got old really quick. *Additionally, you will have additional trips to the school numerous times a year to satisfy other requirements for performing arts participation -when your child is not in performing arts. This may not sound like much, but it added up to extra HOURS for our family. *There are some really good teachers there, but a few that shared their views on racial issues too frequently. *A staff member was inclined to call and try and pick a fight to remind us that we signed and agreed to our son participating in what the school believes in when we questioned the safety of a required "volunteer" activity around homeless. A child is not a car contract , and parents never relinquish their rights by signing their kid up for school. If you are familiar with Catholic education, most schools acknowledge they are the secondary, behind parents in forming students. That is not the case here. *Be prepared that if you are not doing the extras above, your child will not see any real athletic opportunities for sports. These spots and spotlights are reserved for donors/alumni, etc. *They say they do not offer athletic scholarships. Yet, many kids are there because the school enticed them $ and openly share the details with other students. Several sleep in class and do not appear to want to be there or understand the opportunity given to them. * No surprise, drugs are on campus and the admin does a decent job addressing it. * They have no tolerance cheating policy which is great. But we lost count of how many messages we saw other students asking to copy our students' work. We thought we did our homework and jumped through every hoop-and for us it was a joke. We spent over 3 hrs a day commuting, + $ and we have no idea what it was for. Save your money for your child's college.

I moved to Sacramento from San Jose in 2014. My daughter finished first grade in Carmichael elementary where she suffered tremendously. The teacher did not put the attention and dedication a teacher is responsible for, consequently leaving my daughter struggling even more than she was before. I was finally able to put my daughter in Deterding Elementary. Mrs. Morganstern was an Angel in disguise. She immediately recognized my daughter frustration and how behind she was in her academics. She met with me and developed a plan for my daughter success. She and other teachers organized an after school tutoring program for kids like my daughter to get that extra help they needed. I couldn't believe the dedication and care these teachers like Mrs. Morganstern genuinely give to their students. It deserves commendation that this relatively small school has such committed staff and it was evident from the moment you walked into the ceremony. It was evident in their warm greeting as you entered through the doors, their effort to keep the focus on the kids and their families and to the plenty of security personnel present to keep an eye on things. While not a parent of a student (just an aunt) I was moved to write this review because this small staff has raised a large sum in scholarships to provide to their students. The staff is clearly bonded to the kids and it was touching. This year 8 kids rec'd scholarships including the munchkin I was supporting today. It's quite a phenomenal feat to raise these funds and this act shows genuine commitment to their students. Thank you Charter Choices for your commitment to the children.

The high school is exceptional. The classes are small with faculty who are both incredibly well…read morequalified (many have PhDs or other terminal degrees in their fields) and are incredibly kind and caring. No one is a number here. Faculty and staff know students well and are very invested in students' intellectual and emotional growth. The school has a wonderful theater program and everyone who wishes to participate may. This is also the case for all other extracurricular offerings -- Speech and Debate, Athletics, etc. I don't think enough people are aware this wonderful school is here, and that needs to change. This is the kind of school that changes and enriches your life.

Wow ! I can't believe I'm the first one to write a review! Well, it has been nearly twenty years…read more(gasp) since I went here, but oh well, may as well drag up some old memories and write about it. When I went here, it was an okay place. There was the library, which I probably set foot in maybe twice in four years. Of course there was the cafeteria, which seemed fuddy duddy, gym room, etc. Del Campo never had its own football stadium so all of our home games were played at San Juan High School. It was kind of a drag, but that's how it goes. Computers were still a new fangled thing, but we had Apple computers in Yearbook. In fact, a lot of my computer skills were the things I learned there. French class was my absolute favorite. Madame Eisner was the best! I took a trip to Europe with her too. My English teachers were fantastic, in particular Mr. Cody. High school years were not "the best years of my life", but college years definitely were. With that in mind, maybe I'm not the most unbiased person to write this review, but isn't that reviews are meant for?

My best friend suffers from adhd and chronic migraines so it makes it difficult for her to complete school tasks. I've experienced and seen all of it, and when I mean experienced I mean that I've seen so much stuff happen that I have trauma from it and it's so sad. There's another review here that explains more but being a student there is like surviving a crack apocalypse. You try not to get affected or touched, you have to think hard and watch your back 24/7. Even some teachers and adults aren't trustworthy, but TRUST me when I tell you, don't say anything that you know that will get worse, I promise your life will turn into hell.
