Never knew this place existed. I was Nickles grabbing a few albums and heard the cashier telling the customer in front of me about it and that it was their "sister" store. Stopped in this past weekend and was not disappointed. While no where near the quantity of records that Nickles carries, I picked up 10 albums to add to the collection including a couple that are very rare in the wild. Usually when you see them they start at 35 each and I've seen them as high as 75. Got the pair for 24!!!! Sweet!!! When checking out had a great conversation with the clerk about some of the artists that I had purchased. Overall real nice afternoon. I will be back. read more

I've been in the store twice now for small items (strings...). The staff were quick to let me know they are there to help with any questions and then they left me to look at the instruments without being on top of me. I am a 78 year old guitar collector. In August 2023, I took a 1947 Gretsch acoustic archtop to Coyle's for a neck reset. Kevin did very skilled work in resetting the neck. The action is pefect and the overall playability has greatly improved. Even though many shops claim to do guitar neck resets, most cannot do work at Kevin's level of excellence. I love this place! I played the violin for 7 years in school and stopped in high school which is 10 years ago now-- eek! I really wanted to get back into it and was referred here by a friend. I'm so glad she shared this place! The store is great; they offer personable, friendly and reliable service. I didn't get my violin here but I wish I did. I brought my violin 4 years ago but was shocked to realize how much I'd forgotten. I signed up for beginners lessons here with Rose Baldino and she's amazing!! Very friendly and knowledgable but humble and encouraging; I always have a great time with her. I've since had to replace the strings on my violin and get a new shoulder rest, music stand and beginners music book. The strings are working out well, the shoulder rest is good. The book is pretty standard but I LOVE my music stand! It's fully collapsible and comes with a nice carrying bag. Will be coming here for a while! Thrilled. Kevin C. Had a rough upgrade job ahead of him. I brought in 2 Jason Becker model guitars. Both needed the old "licensed by Floyd Rose" trems removed, and new Floyd Rose Special model trems installed. Since the old and new models did not line up (why would they...?), he had to remove the old ones, drill out and replace the post holes with dowels, redrill the new post holes, rout out the body cavities for the new larger base plates, and then install the new units, along with new locking nuts that required extra work and shimming. Then the neck was adjusted and the frets leveled and polished. He also noticed and fixed a pickup wiring problem with both guitars. These guitars play so much better that I can scarcely believe it. The price...absolutely reasonable. I was surprised at that. Brilliantly done, Kevin. Thank you. read more

After years of hearing wonderful things, I recently had the pleasure of visiting Coyle's for the first time. The friendly and knowledgeable staff were all wearing masks and keeping appropriate distance. My boyfriend brought his guitar to be fixed and, even though I'm not a guitarist myself, I was super impressed by Kevin's creative way of fixing the problem the guitar was having. He also makes his own guitars and they're even cooler in person than they are on Instagram. If you are looking for a safe place to take your child for lessons, please consider Coyle's. I saw a few teacher-student interactions and they were all really upbeat and positive. I really appreciate the consistent work they have done for my boyfriend over the years on his many guitars. He's always super stoked to get his guitar back and the service is always well worth the price. I can see why Coyle's is the only place he trusts to fix his guitars. They also have instruments and accessories for said instruments for sale, of course. The selection would definitely be large enough to stop in if you're near by and they do get some cool stuff in every once in a while. I've seen some of that cool stuff come home over the last couple of years. They also have great beginner instruments of all sizes and even jewelry from a local artist for sale. I was referred here by a friend when I was ready to purchase my first electric guitar about 2 years ago, I came wanting a red Fender Strat. However, I had never played a Fender Strat before in my life so I did not know how big they were on me. After trying on a number of Strats and a few other models which were too big and too heavy for a small person like me, I settled on a basic black Dean Vendetta. It was light enough and just the right size...I even got a small amp to go along with it and the total was under $300! Great local shop. This is run by the son now, and it's been updated with cooler instruments and is in a more happening shopping center with ample parking and better food options nearby. They do a great job with set ups, and the staff is very knowledgeable. They have a good cadre of music instructors and offer lessons from the basics (guitar, bass, drums, keyboards) to the more esoteric (sax, violin, uke, mandolin). All around a good vibe and I'd recommend them easily over the mixed experiences and dingy appearance of the guitar centers of the world. read more

This is a great local business, which happens to be a family business. The son of the founder inherited the business and runs it now, and he's in charge of equipment repair and is extremely pleasant and knowledgeable. Their prices on instruments are pretty good, OK prices on supplies, but they provide great service and stand behind what they sell. They have lots of intruments and electrical equipment to choose from, books, supplies, and also rooms for music lessons. Good, honest people and always a pleasure to visit this store because of its super-friendly and down-to-earth atmosphere. We had a difficult repair job, so we tried this shop - an older Ovation acoustic-electric guitar where the bridge separated from the top. Kevin did the work of re-gluing the bridge, re-strung the guitar. A few weeks later, the bridge came off again - but not at the place where Kevin re-attached it but it ripped some new wood off the top. We brought it back, and Kevin fixed it again - for free because they guarantee labor. After the bridge came off the third time, Kevin decided to bolster the bridge repair with 3 screws in addition to glue and used a portable humidifier gel in the guitar case to re-hydrate the wood. He recommended that we use a humidifier gel in the guitar case at all times because the wood on the top was severely dry and contracting, while the plastic bottom wasn't, which was causing the mechanical stress on the top. And again, this third repair was done under warranty (free). The bolts were expertly hidden inside the new bridge that you'd never notice they are there. He also installed a new microphone and a new jack -- no extra money. That's just the sort of commitment to their clients this shop has. If you have some repair needs, be sure to ask for Kevin, and he'll take good care of you. read more

For the professional or amateur musician this store is a gem. When I first moved to the area in the early 90s, they fixed the broken neck on my vintage Gibson Hummingbird when no one else could. I have continued to have that guitar maintained with them ever since, along with several other guitars. I have received the same professionalism when I recently bought an instrument from them. Kevin has a great sense for knowing how to work on a guitar and recommend a course of action that is also very reasonably priced. I don't ever write reviews but felt the need to do so at this point. It kind of breaks my heart to write a negative review of this place as I've been going to Coyle's for 13 years, but I've never really had a good experience there when it came to servicing amps/guitars. I bought my first guitar and amp there. Although I had no issues with the guitar (until recently), the combo amp was a lemon. After spending a lot of money on numerous repairs, having to take it back 3 or more times, the amp was never fixed. Each time I was told it was a blown fuse, but I only played it on practice level. It was not a result of being overused or anything the amp itself was defective. I blame myself for not doing more research on the amp, but the fact is I was sold a lemon, and then had to dump close to the value of the amp itself on repairs that all failed. I basically threw away money at that amp, and didn't get any compensation/refund/store credit etc.. The amp has been sitting in my closet for close to 8 years now. Since I had gone there for so long , I felt the need to remain loyal, and somewhat reluctantly continued to use Coyle's music for setups/strings etc.. I took lessons there as a kid and know Kevin on a first name basis, and felt they deserved a second chance as the amp repair wasn't done in house, and the amp model itself was known to have some problems. I recently brought in my Strat to have the volume knob rewired to the 2nd tone knob, a full setup, and to have new bridge spacers installed. When I got my guitar back the pickup switch was wired incorrectly, and rendered all channels except the treble position unusable. I only use the treble position so I wasn't so concerned, but I was a little disappointed with how the spacer of the removed volume knob turned out., not to mention that there was obviously something wrong with the way it was rewired. Aside from all that, I was happy with the new bridge spacers, but still kept breaking strings (which is why they were replaced in the first place). I also noticed that the tone had slightly changed, but having recently purchased a new amp (not from Coyle's) it was hard to tell at the time. After realizing that something wasn't right, I decided to bring my guitar elsewhere for a full setup. The luthier told me that the guitar was wired completely wrong (the reason why the pickup switch wasn't working in all but one position). On top of that, he told me that one of the coils in the humbucker was dead, and that the entire pickup needed to be replaced. So after spending close to $200 at Coyle's on a setup, bridge spacer replacement, and rewiring, my guitar was still in bad condition, and no one seemed to notice that my pickup was bad. Altogether I now have to spend $400 on repairs to replace frets, the pickup, perform a full setup, and rewiring, all of which Coyle's either missed, failed to tell me about, or performed incorrectly. Sorry Kevin, but I am really unhappy with the service that was done to my guitar. I asked for all the hardware to be replaced as well because the screws were old and rusted,. When I got it back, a few rusted screws were still there as they didn't have the replacement screws in stock. I was told to bring it back in a week to replace them, which was a nice gesture, but at this point I wouldn't trust them with my guitar. I really wanted to remain loyal to Coyle's music because they sold me my first guitar and I took lessons there as a kid. I wanted them to have my business for life, because I'd rather spend a few extra dollars to support a friendly, family run business than guitar center. But after the lemon of an amp they sold me, and finding out what was done (or not done) to my guitar after bringing it in for a full setup, I wouldn't trust them with my guitar or amp in the future. I will say that the lessons I took at Coyle's many many years ago were great. They have a decent selection of instruments and amps, although many of the high end gear seem to be overpriced, but that is not unusual for small guitar shop. If you're looking for lessons for your kids they're probably your best bet in town, I just wouldn't trust them with amp repairs or setups at this point unfortunately. Bottom line: I tried really hard to remain loyal to Coyle's because they sold me my first guitar and were nice and helpful and friendly every time I went there. But I would not recommend bringing in a guitar or amp for repair/servicing. The technician who looked at my guitar most recently was appalled at the work that had been incorrectly performed on my guitar from Coyle's, and it breaks my heart to write this review, but there's no excuse for incorrectly wiring a guitar or failing to notice a bad pickup . Combine that with my amp experience and I don't think I'll ever be going there again unless it's for strings or picks. read more
