Great vet. My friends and I all take our cats here. The staff is friendly and informative, and as a plus they all absolutely love cats.

This was our first trip to A Cat Practice and I was quite impressed. We were greeted by a very friendly staff as soon as we walked in. The paperwork was very straightforward and uncomplicated. Our veterinary assistant (possibly nurse? I didn't ask) was a sweet and personable man who seemed to really love his job. Dr. Levy really was fantastic at handling our shy cat. Moon (our cat) is usually scared of everything and runs from new people but he seemed to calm down quickly in Dr. Levy's care and didn't even flinch during his shots. She gave us many choices when it came to solving his medical problem and explained each thoroughly. She didn't try to push us toward any particular treatment, only gave an honest medical opinion. We left with a solution that fits our lifestyle and preferences, lots of good information, and a cat that didn't cry once on the way home. We will most definitely be going back to see Dr. Levy! read more

FOLLOW UP: After posting my 1 furious star downgrade, A Cat Practice contacted me to apologize profusely and discuss what went wrong. We reached a satisfactory resolution. I appreciate their willingness to take responsibility for the bad experience I had, and their desire to fix it. Most importantly, my cat at last has a diagnosis for his hot spots: a food allergy. Therefore, I'm changing my final assessment of ACP to a 3. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ I previously gave A Cat Practice a 5 star review (see below). Now I'm writing back to eat my words. Dr. Reidy and Kimberly will always be animal care superstars in my eyes, but A Cat Practice itself just got radically downgraded. Dr. Reidy is **NOT** working for A Cat Practice anymore. I have no idea if Kimberly's also left, but I sincerely hope she has. After an extremely bad and costly visit to ACP with my new four year old kitty, I'm now looking for a new vet. I brought him to ACP for hot spots on his shoulders. The vet I saw ordered a $130 antifungal test. Forget that his foster mom's vet had already diagnosed him with non-physical anxiety issues. Forget that I'd brought along the records to be looked at and copied. Forget about sending him home with medicated cream for the wounds, or an e-collar to keep him from biting at them. (I was told he didn't need one! Uhh, the cat's chewing both shoulders raw, but he doesn't need an e-collar to restrain him??!) All I got was a bottle of antibiotics ($26) and directions to bring him in again when the lab tests came back. So, after spending $156, my cat still had nothing for his discomfort. Two weeks later, they STILL haven't heard back from the lab. The office staff also fouled up some billing, then claimed they'd tried to call me '"multiple times" to alert me about it. Geez, if you're going to lie to me, at least get creative and say you had a ton of emergencies and it slipped your mind! How sad that a place that was once so wonderful has done a sorry 360. FORMER REVIEW - TRUE WHEN I WROTE IT BUT NO LONGER APPLICABLE ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Casey, my former cat, was a regular patient at ACP for 5 of her 14 years. At 14, she became very sick. The diagnosis was advanced stage liver cancer, confirmed via x-ray and ultrasound. I'd never had to euthanize a pet before. Dr. Reidy and vet tech Kimberly were compassionate and caring during the end of life process. They told me what to expect, made the exam room comfortable for Casey, and gave me time alone to say goodbye to her after she died. Dr. Reidy handled Casey gently and respectfully, and Kimberly helped me make cremation preparations. Yes, ACP tends to recommend tests and procedures. So do regular human doctors, in case you haven't noticed. It's up to you to ask questions and stand up for yourself and your pet. When I've questioned the need for certain procedures, the staff not only gives satisfactory explanations, but also suggests how to prioritize them. Is a blood test more important than a teeth brushing? What needs to be done now, and what can be put off till later? No one at ACP has ever strong-armed me into getting expensive, unnecessary tests for my cat. As someone who has to watch her dollars, I'm not about to throw money away on things my pet doesn't need. read more

Took my cat here for 2 years, and I moved to another vet after my cat not being treated properly for his skin condition.

Not sure when things changed around here, but I'm lucky my cat's okay now. My cat was diagnosed by Dr. Levy as having fatty liver disease. I have to agree with some other reviewers that she is very clinical and has few interpersonal skills, which is fine enough. However, I was a little suspicious when I saw the two people before me both leave with IV fluid bags and the same medications for totally different cats. I was initially turned off by the reception I received. The guy up front was VERY impersonal and kept mumbling so I couldn't hear any of the questions he was asking. They couldn't find my cat's paperwork from the previous practice ownership, and so they had to start fresh. The visit itself wasn't initially disconcerting, thinking at least I'd get some answers, but I really had to pry to get answers out of Dr. Levy. She had this barrier up, and was only giving information in one-sentence responses. She was sending me home with IV fluids, but the whole issue was that my cat was refusing to eat, which leads to and exacerbates fatty liver. So when I asked how to get her to eat, she told me to continue force-feeding her with an oral syringe. When I asked how much, she said whatever I'm feeding her right now. I think she may have actually shrugged. The Mumbler then came in and showed us how to give IV fluids, and right after telling us to elevate it so we don't get air bubbles in it, he didn't elevate it and was squeezing air bubbles into my cat. He even said, "Oh, I guess I should elevate it." He had also just finished his smoke break, so my cat smelled like cigarettes for hours. That's not to mention the bruises on her arm from her blood work, which caused our new vet to ask, "Did you guys do this yourselves? There's a lot of misses here." 3 days of following Dr. Levy's instructions, my cat had lost 2 more pounds and could barely stand up or muster the energy to meow. I decided to bring her to a different vet (with much better reviews: Go Yelp!), who treated her with a feeding tube, a feeding regimen, and NO fluids, which she said would've done nothing but keep her hydrated. One week later, my cat is eating on her own. Now, 3 weeks later, she's back to begging for food, and the feeding tube is long gone. I keep shuddering thinking about what would have happened if I had continued following these initial instructions. In retrospect, my cat left with the same exact stuff the other cat owners left with, and the visit is clearer to me now as being not much help for $550. Maybe a new name, guys..."Practicing on Cats"? ***Update in response to the owner comment*** I actually did speak with Dr. Levy after her email about the blood work results and informed her that my cat was not eating any better. The conversation was just as one-sided as the initial visit. She advised that I continue the current course of treatment, despite her not eating. Simply the fact that this conversation was dismissed and forgotten is in itself disconcerting. I appreciate your response and your well-wishes for my cat, but I just can't quite put into words all the warning signs that were steering me away this practice. So happy. If you have a cat, save yourself the trip anywhere else and just come here. After being a dedicated "dog person," for years, I fell in love with a squish faced kitten. Never having been a kitten mom, I didn't really know what to expect. I quickly realized I needed a new option after taking my new little grumpy looking cat baby to a regular vet and having a, "not so great" experience. I decided it would be better for both of us to look into a practice that specializes in Cats. I could tell that most vet practices are geared towards dogs. I had never noticed this before, being a dog only owner. Turns out this is actually true. Dr. Levy at a Cat Practice confirmed this. She said it is only because most people just don't bring their cats to the vet because the cat hates it, or they assume cats are more self sufficient. I think cats are more cautious and need more time and understanding than dogs in a scary new place where they insert things into them. The Dr. was the one who did everything. She took his temp etc. She did an amazing job at distracting him. He was happily eating some treats and barely noticed. The other vet I went to thought that our kitten was fine and didn't need meds. He was noticeably sick to Dr. Levy. I also felt like at the other place they were not very "cat conscious," if that is a thing. Kitten ended up getting much worse and having a full on respiratory infection. After dropping 300$+ at the other place, and not getting a solution, I left a Cat Practice VERY HAPPY with 2 RXs, one antibiotic and anti-fungal. This was for less than half of what I paid at the other place. Yay! My kitten was purring and happy the whole time. He loved Dr. Levy. I found Dr. Levy to be very knowledgable and have very good energy that my kitten could feel and responded too. After one day on the antibiotic, my kitten was noticeably better. No more stuffy runny nose. I was so happy he was finally taken care of, and getting better. I am also very excited that they understand kittens and especially my breed, the "squish faced" brachycephalic, exotic shorthair. He can have issues with breathing going under general anesthesia for any operation so I am so glad that he will be getting neutered here at a Cat practice with Dr. Levy. (Also for an great price.) They also offer a kitten starter package that includes all vaccines, spay neuter, etc. I wish I had just come here from the beginning. read more

EDIT: I do want to make it clear that this visit was several years ago when I first arrived in the area, and things may have changed since then. I brought my cat here when I'd recently moved to the area and was looking for a new vet. Little Stupidhead (not her real name) used to get allergic swellings on her mouth from time to time, which her old vet had easily treated with a steroid injection. She has a history of vaccine-associated cancer, and for that reason and others I had not had her vaccinated for several years prior to bringing her to A Cat Practice. When I explained this to them, every person there, from the receptionist to the vet, all but recoiled from me with a look on their faces as if I'd brought them a severed head. Treatment of my cat was rough and perfunctory, and they seemed to want nothing more than to get my heathen cat-abusing self out of their offices as quickly as possible lest they catch my cooties. I'm not a bad person. I love cats. I have always been vigilant about vaccinations up until Stupidhead lost a leg to vaccine-associated cancer, and I fully intend to vaccinate any other pets I have in the future. The least the staff here could have done was listen to my reasoning and try to conceal their loathing. Needless to say, I did not return. Stupidhead's current vet, although not a feline-specific practice, gives her excellent care and is sensitive to her medical history. There are better options. Pros: nice office, easy parking, reasonable costs. (Stupidhead's allergic reactions stopped when I changed her cat food, by the way.) read more

I have come to this vet off and on for the past 20 years. I finally just gave up and came back several times because it is convenient to where i live. Who wants to spend half an hour in the car with a yowling cat going to a far-away vet practice? I came back again after not being particularly happy with other vet practices in the area and what?? Another new owner of A Cat Practice?? This place has changed ownership several times in the years i have been coming. I don't think i have ever had the same vet more than 2 times. Are these just contract vets and they come and go, or do they have a vested interest in knowing their patients over the course of years? I am particularly unhappy with the current ownership. I've been twice now (different cats) and i realize i should have been happy with the previous owners/vets. The current staff has never heard of a smile or a greeting. I actually did a double-take the last time i was here thinking i must have come when they were closed since i got such nasty and even disinterested looks when I walked in the door. This last time i was there my kitty was sick (not just an annual exam) and they really seemed like they could have cared less. Ever hear of sympathy? I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone of veterinary care. The 2 times i have been to this current ownership i asked for an estimate/price list before approving any care. Both times it came to more money than i take home in a week (for routine sick care, nothing life-threatening), so i had to ask them to tell me which were the absolutely necessary treatments. Both times the vet (Dr. Levy) became completely cold and nearly walked out of the room. I mean, the expression on her face actually changed! Both times they wanted to do a full blood work-up which was nearly $200 and it turned out it was one of the items that was not really "absolutely necessary." I am NOT going to give anyone a blank check! I asked my neighborhood cat sitter where most her clients go when the vet is necessary. A Cat Practice was way down the list. I'll be trying the vet which she said 70% of her clients use. read more

I've been a few times in the past year, treating 3 different cats. In all honesty, we took our pets here because it was for cats only and they were conveniently located. I've had really fabulous vets in the past and know what to expect. They were ok. This past weekend, though, has left such a bad taste in my mouth I'm now searching for a new vet. Our cat was already on one medication and was prescribed a different medication to treat one of the side effects she was having from the first medication. It did treat the side effect, but it also caused the cat to become so terrifyingly sick that we had to bring her to an emergency vet for the weekend. Poison control had to be consulted numerous times before we were told they felt it was ok for us to bring the cat home. When we googled the two medications, the first result lists the dangers of combining the two drugs. Medications can be unpredictable. We understand that, but when your cat almost dies, you have to step back and think to yourself if convenience is really that important when it comes to your pet's lives. read more

I hate this place. Maybe it's me, but if I'm paying someone $50 for an appointment--let alone the cost of treatment and care--I expect to be treated kindly. The two girls that work up front are incredibly rude. I was ignored for about fifteen minutes before one of them decided to ask me what my name was and I ended up seeing the vet 40 minutes after my scheduled time. When I saw the vet, they began suggesting a series of tests that would end up costing a couple hundred dollars. When I told the vet I'd rather pay for one at a time and asked for her suggestion which to choose, she ended up disclosing that she was almost positive that it was something that required a significantly less expensive test and treatment. I felt like the vet was trying to coerce me to pay for a series of superfluous tests that they thought were probably not necessary. When I went to pay, the vet began pushing more expensive products on me. I explained to her that I didn't want to buy anything until we were sure what it was, at which point she suggested buying an inexpensive cream that can be found at most drugstores. I feel like those at "A Cat Practice" are more interested in my money than of the care of my animal. read more

I just got my cat's teeth cleaned here today. When I went to drop her off, the women at the front desk were very friendly and gave me the relevant information about the cleaning process. I'm not sure what is standard for cat anesthesia during teeth cleaning, but I do know they used an inhaled anesthetic, rather than an injected variety because it is better for cats. Since my cat is eight years old, she needed t have a blood test prior to the cleaning to confirm anesthesia would be OK (apparently this is standard-- I called a few vets and was told my cat would need this test because of her age). The total bill for the anesthesia, blood work, exam, cleaning, and fluoride treatment was $350. That did feel like a lot of money to spend. I don't really even spend that much on my own dental. However, this place is the cheapest in the area. Other places I called gave estimates like $430... So, all in all the price was right compared to other places. They actually removed a few little fur clumps that my persian had under her armpits while she was there, which was nice cause she hates it when I try to remove them... One other thing to note about the reviewer below who mentioned her cat having eye issues-- my cat had similar eye problems when I first got her and I had to take her to a veterinary ophthalmologist. The ophthalmologist actually gave me a cone for my cat to wear while her eye healed, so I think that is standard practice for cat eye issues. One final note-- I got a rabies vaccine for her while I was there, which was $31. I think that is pretty standard, but will probably get my cat vaccinated at the Washington Animal Rescue League in the future because they have a cat rabies clinic on Wednesdays that charges $15 for shots. read more

I've been taking my cats to A Cat Practice for many years, and it's the best vet practice I've found in the DC metro area. Both vets, Dr. Levy and Dr. Puscheck, are smart, kind, and gentle with animals. They are both extremely knowledgable and are fantastic diagnosticians, and I know my cats are in good hands with either of them. I must also mention the super-efficient head vet tech Samantha, who is also smart, kind and gentle. There are two other vet techs, both whom I've met and who are extremely nice, but I'm really bad with names! Anyway, take your cat(s) here without hesitation and you can finally stop the search for a good vet in DC(ish)! read more

I've been going to A Cat Practice for several years now. It's important to us to take our cats to a feline-only clinic because of how much it reduces their stress. The vets, practice manager and vet techs are terrific - responsive, thorough, and communicative. They remember our cats and seem to genuinely care about them. Each visit they give us an estimate of the bill before they do any tests or procedures, so we don't suffer sticker shock at the end of a visit. Plus, they carry a variety of prescription and kidney-friendly foods. It can take a while to develop trusting relationships with care providers, but A Cat Practice has earned our respect - and gratitude. We wouldn't take our cats anywhere else. read more

I was disheartened to hear that Dr. James Rogers, who founded this practice, had passed away, and that the person who bought it was Dr. Hannah Levy. Dr. Levy is not a warm or thoughtful person--she was so unemotional it was difficult to talk to her. I liked the vet techs far more; they at least seemed human and concerned. Dr. Levy was like someone who spends all day fixing cellphone screens. She also had her daughter present at some visits and did not ask me whether that would be all right. There's something very tone-deaf about her, in the most basic "customer service" matters. As far as veterinary knowledge, she seems out of her league, especially to be running an entire practice. When she cared for my cat, she had to consult with other vets and look up dosages of common veterinary medications in reference books. She also did not know how often to monitor blood levels when my cat was on strong medication, and she gave me poor advice on that. I would not go to her again. I would only use this practice if I could see a more experienced, and more compassionate, partner. read more

I have had excellent experiences at A Cat Practice with 4 different cats that I have taken there. Most notably, with my very senior cat, the staff were very helpful in helping me weigh treatment options and monitoring his health over time and when it came time to euthanize him, the veterinarian was extremely kind and thoughful and took the time to discuss the decision with my children so that they could understand why it was the best choice. They made a difficult process happen as peacefully as possible and I truly appreciate it. They have been flexible with walk-in appointments and I have never felt pressured to commit to uneccessary products or procedures. They are thorough and take the time to talk to us, but also efficient. read more

I just started using A Cat Practice for my 4 year old cat who's had serious digestive issues for years. We were taking her to another, closer vet in Wheaton, but I feel that clinic really traumatized her the last time she visited. They just weren't "cat-friendly". Decided to give A Cat Practice a shot and I'm very glad I did. The staff is friendly and VERY helpful, and the doctors are responsive and take the time to listen. The facilities are clean and comfortable and the prices are MUCH lower than my previous clinic, like half as much. Most importantly, my cat is better and much easier to live with. I'm very happy with A Cat Practice and recommend them highly. read more

I'm really baffled by the negative reviews. I've been going here for six years with both of my cats and have never had anything but positive experiences. I appreciate that since it is a cat-only practice, the waiting area is quiet with no loud barking dogs to traumatize the cats. The doctors are all very knowledgeable, and I especially like Dr. Warford. She has a good "bedside manner" with the cats and is patient and kind. This is the only vet I've ever been to in the area so I cannot compare the prices to other places, but in my opinion they seem reasonable. read more

I wasn't pleased with my last experience at this clinic and would recommend you take your pet to a veterinary emergency center, such as the Hope Center in Rockville, if your cat is experiencing a true emergency and you have the money for X-Rays and ultrasounds. I'll first say that the people at the Practice, the techs especially, were friendly and caring and I didn't suffer a long waiting time on any of my visits. However, during my last visit and the subsequent phone call neither vet was particularly communicative, and they provided virtually no information on possible diagnoses or treatment options. I brought my cat over as she was clearly in distress, extremely vocal, eating very little, sitting in one place for hours on end, and having difficulty walking. She was old for a cat, about 16, her hair had become very matted and she was not allowing me to brush it. The vet and the tech tried getting her to walk to see if a leg or hip might be injured, unsuccessfully tried cleaning out the mats - the cat screamed throughout and wouldn't let them - and drew some blood. I was rather surprised that they didn't take any X-Rays. They apparently lack effective X-Ray equipment. The vet didn't provide any info on possible diagnoses or prognoses and just seemed to disappear, leaving me with the techs. I spent over $300, apparently for the tests, and was told I would get a call when the results came in. I was given pain killing medication to administer in the meantime - five days worth. A couple of days later, the other vet called me and told me that all her test results were within normal ranges, and she had no recommendations. Finally, when I pressed her, she told me I could take her to the Hope Center for more sophisticated tests, and that the Cat Practice lacked ultrasound or other equipment. Would you see a dentist who lacked X-Ray or other dental equipment needed to diagnose and treat your symptoms? I asked if I could get more pain killing medication, and she told me they didn't normally prescribe more than five days worth. A couple of days later, my cat had completely stopped eating, stopped moving, and was yowling in pain. I took her to the Hope Center where she had an ultrasound and chest X-Rays, I learned that she had nodules on her spleen, a mass on one of her ribs, and a mass around her lungs - almost surely cancer which had metastasized. I was also, in contrast to what I was informed at the Cat Practice, told that her kidneys were not functioning well. Given her clear distress and the lack of any likelihood that treatment would provide any meaningful relief or prolong her life, we decided to euthanize her. It was a horrible experience that most pet owners go through at some time in their lives. The lack of communication from the vets at the Cat Practice regarding possible diagnoses, tests or courses of treatment was not appreciated during this stressful period. Again, the technicians at the Practice were friendly and attentive, but the service, in my opinion, left a good deal to be desired. read more

Frightening. My cats sat for 8 hours in their cages before being tended to...in at 7:30 am for dental cleaning, not seen til after 3:30pm. No food or water since midnight. That's 15 hours with no water. The one vet working had 19 surgeries that day. If they''d informed me I was #18 on the list, I'd have rescheduled. Going to the vet is stressful for them, to sit in that environment in a cage for 8 hours seems cruel to me. And it seems irresponsible and a bit greedy to schedule so many surgeries at once. read more

Dr. Warne is treating Cat Tigger for hyperthyroidism and kidney . The techs, including Hector, are tender and responsive and attentive. I've many cats under my charge; I am most confident taking them to a practice dedicated exclusively to cats. Another reviewer said lack of sympathy and professionalism due to unmonitored voice mail--most unfortunate and hope she can discuss with management. Over 2 years, I've not experienced that, only dedication and help and welcome empathy. Please note: I've only had medical treatments, no surgeries, so I cannot comment on surgical care. read more

Note 6/7/2013: Since I wrote this Dr. Warford and some of the staff when I wrote this 2 years ago are no longer with A Cat Practice and I have ceased to take my cats there. Therefore, I have changed my rating. I will admit, several years ago at my first try with A Cat Practice, I had reservations. After trying several other local vets with seriously disasterous results, a friend encouraged me to try again -- and I am certainly glad I did. There are mutliple vets here. Dr. J.D. Warford (currently there M-W-F) truly is as good as it gets. She is what everyone hopes for in a vet, knowledgeable, skilled, compassionate and easy to talk with. The office staff, Kim and Kaylan are wonderful. I read a review here saying they weren't nice---all I can say is be nice and you get nice. Personally, I adore them. I recently had to euthanize a cat I loved more than life. Dr. Warford and Kaylan came to my home for this. They were caring, sensitive and made it the most peaceful experience possible. I recently recommended A Cat Practice to another friend who had had a bad experience when taking her new kitten for care elsewhere -- and received a phone message the other day thanking me. She complimented the doctor, the staff and the price! read more

I'm basing my rating on three visits with three different cats. The first time was with a friend's cat and only for shots. They were (to the best of my knowledge) competent and efficient. The second visit was with my two cats for check-ups and shots. The noise coming from the exam room indicated that some animal was having a bad day - and the owner left in tears with the animal in a carrier. When I got called in, the vet was rough and not the least bit gentle with my cats. They were normally calm and easy going cats but both got very agitated by the handling they got here. My third visit was with one cat who had been there before. My gentle calm cat who put up with all kinds of handling, petting, and playing, never having harmed anyone, ended up biting the vet after he flipped her around roughly and jammed a thermometer in her butt. Then without even asking me, he stuffed her head in a hood for the rest of the exam and was rough and callous with her. I asked him to please be more gentle but he was borderline mean. I left and swore I would never go back. I've discussed this experience with a few folks in my neighborhood and find it not to be that unusual. Never going back! read more

An update: I have since taken my elderly cat to the vet twice. He is not doing well. The vet, Dr. Dearie, is like talking to a robot. No emotion or compassion either for me or my cat. The receptionist is also a bit frosty. So, I think it's all about the vet you get. I loved Dr. Reidy. Dr. Dearie I'd far rather do without. read more

Been going to A Cat Practice for years, and it is the best. The staff care foremost about the cat, and I have seen owners treat them very poorly, and don't want to spend a penny (although they would spend anything for their dog or Starbucks). They have stuff (medicines and equipment) no one else has, just for cats. They've never tried to force anything on me (lab tests or special foods), but have always tried to educate me as to possible treatment options, and have always respected my decisions. If you don't want to treat your cat as a family member and you don't think he deserves medical care, take him to the Couny rabies clinic only, or, don't have a pet. read more

A Cat Practice is the best hands down. They are friendly and accommodating. They listen and care about your pet not just your business. Dr. Puscheck was great. She researched my cat's issue instead of just guessing and pushing me off to another vet like others had done. She gave her meds to help her feel better and a course of treatment that's working. I had been to other vets for months that hadn't done what Dr. Puschech did in one visit. It was amazing and my cat and I are so happy and thankful. read more

i took my cat in for her annual exam and rabies shot, and while at first I was a bit nervous because of some of the other reviews, my fears were very much unfounded. I think I saw Dr. Reidy, who was awesome. She was very nice to my terrified kitty, and very professional, even when my cat squirmed and made her miss the rabies vaccination the first time. They didn't charge me for the missed dose, and like I said, she was super nice and treated my cat really well. I highly recommend this practice. read more

We have had a very positive experience with this vet practice and find them to be about on par with regard to $$. Our beloved cat of 15 years was diagnosed with kidney disease this past summer. They gave us all the options available and respected our request to make him as comfortable as possible with minimal stress. They were with us for his last day and I am very grateful for their guidance and sensitivity. The day after our little guy died, the practice sent us a condolence card which was incredibly thoughtful. As long as we have a cat and we are in this area, we will go to the Cat Practice. read more

I've taken my cats here for about 5-6 years. I never wait when I get there. I'm always ushered right into the exam room. My cats aren't nearly as stressed because it's a cat only practice, and most of the vets I've seen there have been very kind and knowledgeable. I will say that the girls at the front desk are kind of a crapshoot. Sometimes they are very friendly and sometimes quite the opposite, but that's not the unimportant thing to me. I do think they are a bit pricey, but again, my cats don't get overly stressed there so it's worth the couple extra bucks. I have been bringing my kitties to Cat Practice for 10 years and have been nothing but pleased with the quality of care and the staff. Jim Rogers was by himself when I first started coming and he took on more vets since he was aging as I. I have always had tender handling of my kitties and impressed with some of the vets interaction with some of the kitties. Some of my guys do not do car rides to vet well, therefore staff greeted with messy cat/crate, all in a days work for them. I do not feel that there have been unnecessary tests or treatment and I have never had a sales promo for product while in the office. I have been and continue to be very pleased with all the staff and am very fond of Dr. Salazar, she is especially expressive with the kitties. Dr. Rogers and the others at A Cat Practice have taken care of my cats for a LONG time...memory tells me it's been about 20 years! They've been gentle, caring, professional, honest, excellent and everything else I want from people who help me care for my feline "children." They've even taken good care of me! read more

This review is in response to Lee's two-star review... I had a totally different experience with the new ownership of the practice. I also have been coming to this veterinarian for many years and my cat has been getting on in years and was very delicate condition. I found that the treatment of my cat as the patient (as well as me as the owner) was very warm and empathetic. Pricewise, I didn't and haven't found that this clinic is any more or less pricey than any others in the area. It's unfortunate that you had a negative perception of your last experience and are considering leaving as a result...but I think it's a real change for the better as Dr. Levy seems to really know her stuff and is willing to openly share her analytical knowledge with her clientele, that is the owners of her patients. I guess that not everyone resonates well with every medical professional - it might be better that you go to somebody a little less clinically straightforward. read more

I have brought my 13-year old cat for a regular check-up. The cat seemed healthy and happy, but the doctor recommended the full-blood test informing me about all possible diseases that older cats may suffer from. Next she looked at her teeth and decided that they are in a horrible shape requiring cleaning under full anesthesia, giving me another lecture about danger of not following up on this procedure. I was also warned that the teeth cleaning procedure may cost me as much as $600-$800 if any teeth need to be removed. I left the place with a few cans of very expensive cat food, and feeling that I have a gravely sick cat. I made a follow-up appointment for teeth cleaning but truly couldn't get there for three consecutive times and decided to consult another vet, Dr. Sweeney from Hillandale Hospital in Silver Spring MD. He was able to remove a tartar from my cat's teeth with no anesthesia, told me that the cat seems to be quite healthy and instruct me to clean may cat's teeth daily. He said he would look at her teeth in a few months again to see whether any of them may need to be removed since her gums needed to heal. No anesthesia, no a day-long visit in a hospital, and a bill :$50. I truly think that A Cats Practice is very expensive and not that all honest practice. Will continue with Dr. Sweeney at the Hillandale Animal Hospital. read more
