It is nice and glossy and it effectively removed that creepy unfinished clay like chalkboard feeling. They said it is dishwasher, microwave, and oven safe so excited to get it in rotation! They have a pretty quick turnaround time (3-5 days) and are very generous with their hold times. I embarrassingly will admit it took me a few months to get back to pick them up, and thankfully they still had them waiting in the back. Also, the garage DOES go through to the back of the building where The Painting Place is - so the directions are correct. It was much easier to get there this time when I realized it was a pull-through garage under the building lol.... I will definitely keep The Painting Place on my list for pottery crafts in the future!!

They even had pre-made paint palettes as an option. They also have some pottery pieces and things you can paint and take home the same day, but you can't eat from those items as they don't go thru the kiln. There wasn't a ton of variety in the pottery pieces to choose from, and the prices were a bit high compared to what I've seen in the past. We enjoyed our time. There were only two other parties there so it was very quiet and peaceful. Tip: if you use GPS for directions, it'll point you to the building across from theirs. They're right across from the Russian School. Their sign is a bit hidden. They do have a free parking lot.

When you go in there are a ton of items on the wall to choose from, which have a base price. Some of them can be quite pricey but there are also some solid options that are $20 or less. I got this cute mushroom bird feeder that I plan to use for jewelry (I believe it was around $20?). Once you start paying there is a rate per hour that is charged on top of that item price. I will say that the studio has a very zen and relaxing vibe... until I remembered I was being charged per hour HA. There are stencils and a variety of colors to use for your artwork. I loved the stencil books because they helped so much, especially with the time constraint. When you're done with your piece they estimate about 7 days before it is ready for pickup. The staff were all super kind and helpful and the place itself was kept tidy. Overall, I had a great experience there with my friend and would go again. BONUS: I don't live in the area anymore and my friend dropped the ball on picking up our artwork. I recently went back to visit and since I was right across the street I decided to try my luck and see if my piece was there, and it was! I painted my mushroom bird feeder in December 2024 and it was still there 5 months later in May! AMAZINNGGGGG, really made my day.

The employees showed us around and made sure we knew where everything was and how to paint our pottery. There was a wide range of items to paint, so there's something for everyone's interests and budget. There was also a wide range of colors and paint brushes. I've done pottery painting a few times and I typically feel a little let down when I get the finished piece back... but not this time! Clay dreaming's instructions and tips for painting helped my piece to turn out just how I wanted it. Thank you to clay dreaming and I recommend this place for a wonderful date night!

The woman that assisted us was super thorough and helpful. She gave us tips and recommendations and explained everything perfectly, she even saved my daughter's piece when she "ruined" it (she needs a promotion lol). We tried the clay painting & there was a wide variety of ready made pottery pieces to choose from. I chose a mermaid mug, my daughter chose a cute character mug and my son chose a cute trophy vase/mug? There were tons of paint colors to choose from as well as all the painting accessories (brushes, stencils, sponges, etc). We were reminded that we can't take the pieces home right away since they'll have to go in the kiln but they'll call/text in 7-10 days for pickup. The studio was very clean, organized and spacious. It was also very affordable, they charge $5 per person for the first hour and then $2.50 each additional hour per person and you just buy the ceramic pieces that range from $20 and up. Highly recommend for a fun time with family and friends.

The bright, inviting space is filled with shelves of ready-to-paint ceramics, making it easy to settle in and spend a relaxing afternoon creating something unique. Whether you're visiting with friends, family, or on a date, the laid-back atmosphere makes it an enjoyable way to unwind. The paint-your-own pottery experience was the highlight of my visit. There is a large selection of ceramic pieces to choose from, including mugs, bowls, plates, and decorative figurines, so it is easy to find something that fits your style. Painting at your own pace felt relaxing, and the wide variety of glaze colors gave plenty of room to get creative. Dropping the finished piece off for glazing and firing made the process simple, and it was exciting to come back later and see how the final product turned out. For anyone looking to go beyond painting, Clayroom also offers pottery wheel classes and hand-building workshops. The studio provides all of the tools and materials, making it approachable even if you have never worked with clay before. The instructors and staff are happy to answer questions and offer guidance throughout the process without making it feel intimidating. The studio is clean, well organized, and easy to navigate, with a calm atmosphere that encourages you to take your time. Staff members are friendly and helpful when explaining the painting and firing process, and everything runs smoothly from start to finish. Since weekends can be especially busy, making a reservation ahead of time is a good idea to secure a spot. Overall, Clayroom is a great place to spend a creative afternoon in Brookline. The combination of paint-your-own pottery, beginner-friendly classes, and a welcoming environment makes it a fun experience whether you're trying pottery for the first time or simply looking for a unique activity to enjoy with others. It's a place I would happily return to for another creative project.

As a gifter, I don't fully understand how I didn't know about this place before, but I'm so glad I do now. I went for a family project recently when closer craft shops didn't have what we needed. There's an abundance of arts and crafts supplies here, housed in two interconnected basement rooms, along with an impressive paper and picture frame selection (among other items) on the first floor. The atmosphere is one of a kind--more like an arts-and-crafts boutique curated by the owner, with items you won't easily find together elsewhere. Because of the sheer breadth, some categories (like fabrics, for example) have a smaller variety, which is just an observation, not a critique. Ribbons are unrivaled. If you don't have time to wander, ask--the best part of our experience was the owner, Carol, and the staff (thank you, Lilly). They are wonderfully kind, patient, and creative, offering thoughtful, gentle advice for your projects and genuinely care about their customers. Tip: There's a parking lot in the back or bus 87 drops you off right in front, literally. Highly recommended local business.

A friend recommended coming here w/ my mom to look for yarn for her knitting projects and my friend prefaced that this place was the BEST for any type of arts, crafts, decor, etc. Well, WOW!! I was awe struck by everything this store had. I will definitely be making this place a regular stop for gifts for people and for fun. Forget going to places like Michaels. Come to this local, family-owned business which I guarantee will have whatever you are looking for. It's an incredible place.

We haven't been in years since life got busy, but my daughter went again last week with her friend and painted an adorable light switch plate! She came in with a vision of paint splattered in quirky colors, and the staff didn't hesitate to get the supplies she would need. They showed her how to splatter paint with a toothbrush to get this fun Jackson Pollock kind of punk style. She was nervous, but everyone was super helpful and reassuring the whole time! She's really happy with how her painting came out, she did a great job! I'm really glad this place is still here, and thriving after all these years. The layout is different, and there's friendly new faces working there, but it's the same hidden gem it was when we first visited! It was a great location for birthday parties and play-dates back in the day, and now that our girl's going off to college, the wife and I might treat ourselves to a Paint and Sip night or two!
