My husband and I toured every central apartment building in Rochester before moving here, and Lofts…read moreat Mayo Park was by far the best overall fit for us. We were looking for a modern, spacious, and convenient place for my husband's commute to Mayo during his fellowship, and this place has checked all of our boxes and more. Apartments The floor plans are open and thoughtfully designed, with floor-to-ceiling windows that let in tons of natural light. I was initially worried about insulation during the winter, but so far we haven't felt any cold seeping in - the Andersen windows are high quality, and the combination of light-filtering and blackout shades is a nice touch. Everything feels clean and new: light wood floors (no carpet, which was not true of many of the other apartments we toured), solid cabinetry, and stainless steel appliances. Everything was spotless on move-in, which we really appreciated. Location The building sits right along the river, so every day feels like a serene getaway. You have access to many branches of the river trail, as it sits at a 3-point junction where the river splits - there are always many people walking, jogging, and biking to Mayo and around town. We love being so close to the Civic Center (just across the pedestrian bridge behind the building), especially for the Riverside concert series on Sunday evenings in the summer - this building is so close that you can even enjoy the concerts from the building's patio while grilling with friends. It's a little farther from the main downtown area (about a 5-minute longer walk to Gonda vs. other buildings that are downtown), but we actually like being slightly removed from the construction and traffic of the main downtown area. Parking downtown after 5 pm is free, so if you don't feel like walking, you can always make the short drive for dinner downtown. Management & Maintenance Working with Kevin and Anika to finalize our lease was such a pleasant experience, and maintenance requests since moving in have been handled quickly by Doug. As others have mentioned, the older negative reviews were for the previous management company (JMC). The new management company, Doro, has been excellent so far. Amenities There are only about 30 units in the building, so the community feels quiet and private. The heated underground parking garage is super convenient - since it's a smaller building, you don't have to drive up and down multiple levels, and the elevator goes straight to your floor (no separate garage elevator). The building is pet-friendly, with a pet wash station and dog treats in the lobby that my dog always happily accepts from Anika. There is a bike storage area, and a small gym - it's definitely smaller than the big apartment buildings, but most Mayo employees and spouses use the subsidized employee gym anyway (Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center), which has everything you could need. Living here has made our time in Rochester so much more enjoyable than we expected, especially coming from a big city. We always feel happy and relaxed coming home to Lofts at Mayo Park.

Highly recommend. Beautiful apartments that are well designed, good location along the river next…read moreto a walk, walking distance to downtown and Mayo Clinic Gonda/methodist.

Cottage was nice, customer service was execrable…read more I stayed for a night on December 27th/28th and made the mistake of forgetting a pillow I had brought. No big deal, my girlfriend (who had booked the room) e-mailed them on the 29th asking them if they could have it mailed back to us (we live 100 miles away), we would, of course, pay for postage. They agreed and I started waiting. January 5th my girlfriend asked for an update. It had been a full week and that seems like plenty of time for it to have been mailed and delivered. Their response: "We have it and will be mailing it back to you." A week feels a little long to wait to actually mail it back, but it's the holidays so I get it. No big deal. January 13th. Still no pillow. Send another e-mail offering to pick it up in person and this time they say: "It has been mailed" January 22nd. Still no pillow. Clearly lost in the mail, right? They said they mailed it. They lied. After e-mailing them again they call and admit that they did not mail it, despite having said they did. At this point I'm tired of their lies so I had to drive 100 miles to pick up the pillow. Fun fact: the post office is a block from their rental office - it would have taken them less than 20 minutes to drop it off to get mailed to me. Cannot recommend staying here under the current management -- they displayed a willingness to lie about inconsequential matters which would seem to speak to their general attitude towards their customers: just tell 'em what they want to hear, regardless of the truth. You get a nice view of the river, though. Caveat Emptor.

Think of staying at one of these two renovated homes as a Bed and Breakfast without the breakfast…read more This is a fabulous self-service style vacation rental. They offer two separate places. The Joseph Fugina House has a main floor that you can rent, complete with two bedrooms, a living room, dining room and kitchen. Upstairs, there are three separate rooms that can be rented. They each have their own bathroom, with a shared kitchen upstairs and a shared living room downstairs. I would highly recommend looking that their website, as the photos really show how beautiful this space is. They also rent out the Prairie School House just down the street. That's a full house (no separate rooms for rent). The renovators and designers did an incredible job. Walking into the Joseph Fugina House is like stepping into a Pottery Barn or Pier 1 photo shoot. Great attention has been paid to details. Our room in the Joseph Fugina House had wonderful windows that let in a lot of light and overlooked the Mississippi River. There was also a small patio with two chairs where you could sit outside and enjoy the view. Each room has a Keurig coffee maker. The proprietors even restocked us with some Chai tea and decaff which my wife asked for! We loved our stay and would absolutely, without question, stay here again. The location is great. You can walk to town to enjoy the shops and restaurants. Guests can enjoy a 10 percent discount at The Golden Frog, a bar and grill located in downtown Fountain City. The only minor negatives would be: trains are passing by across the street about every 15 minutes, so if you're a light sleeper or can't stand that noise, you may want to go elsewhere. Also, the water was slow to get warm in the bathroom, and when it did, it didn't get real warm. We appreciated having access to a full kitchen - the ceramic dishes, real silverware, a fridge, etc. Again, the decorating was amazing. I hesitate to speak too glowingly about the place for fear that the next time we want to return, it will be booked.
