Typically I refrain from writing reviews about the healthcare industry. However both my daughter and I had recent outpatient procedures here. From registration to patient discharge, it was a seamless process And the staff was outstanding. Everyone was friendly and demonstrated professionalism in making sure we were comfortable and well tended to. There's a three level parking garage. If you park more than three hours you can request a voucher from the parking garage staff and receive a discount off your fee. I didn't qualify as I parked for 90 minutes and paid $12 picking up my daughter. Still it was convenient. Kudos to CPMC.

Cafeteria is nice. The food is the best in the world but the breakfast burritos are good and the calzones on every other Wednesday are pretty good too.

Terrible blood draw bruises from emergency room nurse Rachel
    K. L.

Had to visit the emergency room and it went fine, the staff were polite and kept me updated. Would just ask nurse Rachel to practice her blood draw technique, I have really good veins and I don't know what she was doing, dropping vials and jabbing the IV with each vial change or something but left terrible bruising that I've never had with blood draws. Honestly the most painful part of the experience but overall as pleasant as could be under the circumstances.

I GOT MY KIDNEY TRANSPLANT HERE! JULY 28,2023 aka ya girls new birthday!!!! My second lease on life thanks to my beautiful selfless Tia & the amazing care team at CPMC! You are all amazing human beings. After 3.5 years on dialysis, and 3 years on the transplant waiting list with UC DAVIS. I had an appointment over at UCSF, when I went and met with Dr Katznelson and he told me he doesn't see why I haven't already got a transplant if I'm the perfect candidate and have a donor... it brought tears to my eyes because I thought I'd be on dialysis for another 2-3 years. After UCDAVIS postponing surgery so many times and hearing what Dr Katznelson said, it gave me hope. I immediately told my Tia and she got on it immediately. UCSF managed to get most of my Tias test results and lab work, etc from UCDAVIS because they share the same network, "EPIC" they said they just needed to meet my Tia in person and if all is well, we can have surgery within the next month. My Tia flew down from AZ immediately and did the lab work and within the week they called her to let her know she passed with flying colors and set the date. I then got the call and my life changed forever. From every video visit, in person visit, pre-po, post-op I've had with UCSF I was treated so nicely and felt welcomed. I would like to thank everyone at CMPC from the security who showed us where to go when we arrived, nurses, doctors, surgeons, janitorial staff even the kitchen staff!! Everyone was so nice and helpful. All nurses made me feel comfortable and were sweet to me when coming in to help me, clean my Foley catheter, clean out my drain bag, I know it's sounding gross but they all helped me and made me feel comfortable and never once made me feel bad in anyway. Thank you all who helped me during my stay and for every appointment that led up to my discharge day. I love this hospital and I'm forever thankful to all the staff that helped me.

Ask the Community - CPMC Lab, Van Ness Campus | 1100 Van Ness Avenue

Do they still put ER patients out in the hallways and have them wait 4+ hrs?

My husband went to this CPMC ER dept. in Aug. 2022 & was not seen for hours (they claimed it was due to all of these out of city dwellers being sent to CPMC Van Ness campus during the weekend - this was a Monday the worst day for being busy…

Where is the free parking located?

"Free" comes at a price. I know of car break-ins & thefts in their "free" garage. All preventable but management does not seem to care

Is there bike storage? I liked like to bicycle there and store it safely

Yes but there's no such thing as "safety" as they've done nothing to quell the bike thefts here

    Is there free parking?

    Yes

Is there street parking near by like at their Davies campus?

    Meter parking on street

My Daughter cut her chin and needed stitches on a Sunday night, so we headed here after being sent by a Sutter Health urgent care center. The ER was hopping and we waited over three, nearly four, hours for the stitches. I get it, my Child wasn't dying--other patients took priority. The doctor who eventually performed the stitches was nice and efficient. The whole procedure took 15, maybe 20 minutes start to finish. Nine stitches to be exact. The shocker was the bill for over $2700. That's the rate with Blue Shield insurance (we have a high deductible plan) and we're on the hook for the full amount. I asked them for a review of the bill because it seemed so high (couldn't be right, right?) but nope, they came back to confirm that that's exactly what it should have cost. To be clear, that's just the facility fee from CPMC's emergency room. The doctor's bill was a separate change. I shudder to think what the bill would be if you actually needed an x-ray or some sort of diagnostic work up. Anyway, proceed with caution and check your insurance--the rates are here are sky high with no justification. Just because they can.

Well, let's count... 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8... 8! 1) One that took my blood pressure, temperature and weight and showed me my purple couture outfit with matching green socks to be worn during my stay 2) One that inserted the IV into my arm (single hit to my vein, thank goodness!) 3) One that asked me about my medical history and took notes on a computer like a secretary 4) One that introduced himself and assisted the doctor during my operation 5-6) Two more nurses that were in the operating room when I entered that room 7) One that helped me post-operation in the holding room 8) One that helped me post-operation in my waiting room that gave me pain meds, helped me change, took my blood pressure every 30 minutes, took my temperature a few times That's 8 nurses plus my doctor and an anesthesiologist = 10 A total of 10 people helped with my 3 hour operation in which I was at the hospital for a total of 8 hours (check-in, operation Jenny T. and recovery time). Each and every one of them were friendly, professional, and knew exactly what each had to do for me (or is it to me?). The facilities was typical of a hospital, yucky. The operating room, which I walked into with nurse #4 was surreal and 10x scarier than a brain surgery scene performed by Dr. McDreamy on Grey's Anatomy. I had an entire minute to soak in the sterile room before the anesthesiologist turned me into sleepy town. But overall, I'm so grateful that I had a great surgeon with excellent health care workers. I definitely felt well cared for. I must admit, I watch way too many Korean soap operas and evil thoughts of dramatic things happening to me made me all the more nervous. My tip to you, don't watch Korean soap operas prior to surgery because NO, your body will not swapped out for another. Think happy thoughts and know that you are getting well taken care of at this hospital.

My husband usually complains about food at any place he is, and he is doing well with the hospital food here. The nurses are excellent and he has been seen by doctors from the care team. It may feel as if there is a lack of communication before being admitted, but we found that the nurses and staff are working together to accommodate all of his needs and requests so that once he was in the room, everything was in order and specialist started showing up to see him almost immediately. The MyChart app is extremely helpful as I can confirm that his care is progressing well. Once he is taken into surgery, I will be updated via text in real time and can ask questions of the care team, if necessary. This is far superior to communication from other hospitals. We don't live close to SF, so the drive is a drawback since he is in for a week. And the larger hassle is parking. Valet parking is available, but the hours are limited and getting your vehicle is a challenge. Plus the cost adds up. This means that instead of having visitors twice a day, he will see someone once a day.

The hospital is extremely busy with a variety of cases, it reminds me of an episode of the Pitt. The hospital staff does the best it can but with all the people coming in, it's hard to manage. We got triaged and waiting a long time to seen but I understand because we have a "problem" but it's not life threatening like some of the people walking in the door. So we wait. He was admitted and there wasn't a room available for about a day, it's not the hospitals fault. They are doing their best with what they have. Our health care system is broken and blaming the hospital with one and two stars is easy to do, we have only received the best care available when we have been at the hospital and I am grateful to the staff who do what they can. We live over two hours away and I drive to get care here because they are the best. People might not agree and I know we hate to wait, but I would rather be seen by the best.

My elderly parent unfortunately goes here and they rarely have certain life-preserving medications available where my parent who is not very mobile has to go multiple visits to get the same medication. It's always "come back tomorrow" or "come back next week" or "comeback in two weeks". This is a hospital pharmacy. There should rarely be shortages of any medication. Even some basic portable medical devices that most pharmacies carry have also been delayed. Again, this is a hospital pharmacy. The worst thing is they don't care and the a staff member not involved in the conversation will interject from the other booth, "Is it even covered by insurance?" even though she is not involved in the transaction and it has been covered for years, as if that is an excuse for not having certain important medications available. It's too bad, because the review should be something like 3.5 stars but the extremely poor customer service of the pharmacy brings this down to 1 star automatically. They need clean house and fix what's wrong here so the perceptions of the hospital are not dragged down by this disgrace of a pharmacy. I am willing to upgrade the rating once they prove to us that the pharmacy has improved. I don't see how this can change with the existing management and personnel as the culture as indicated customer service has strong resemblance to the DMV. It makes me think of Seinfeld's Soup Nazi episode where the guy says, "No soup for you!" except replace the lobster bisque with medications! "Serenity now!" ‍‍

He has too much belief in an on call dermatologist's words over the phone that he couldn't use common sense to see that my leg was indeed undergoing a bacterial infection indicated by the growing cellulitis, swelling, and weeping that was happening. He kept pushing contact dermatitis after I begged him to reconsider. He sent me home with topical steroids- something you should never use on bacterial infections. If there was any benefit, it proved that I had a bacterial infection because my leg grew 3x the size. Within 24 hours- I was already going to the other CPMC campus at Duboce for a more seasoned ER Doc who was more tentative to my needs. It's taken me a while to write this because I've had 7 months to do my own research and monitor my skin in this healing process. My skin is now more sensitive and prone to breakouts than ever- making physical activity more challenging. Every friend and medical professional in between who I've asked says you should NEVER use topical steroids on bacterial infections. The dermatologist who I explained my experience with says this is not unreasonable that Braunstein trusted that prescription of topical steroids, but I simply do not think that it is reasonable to test topical steroids for an if-then-else scenario. The topical steroids have weakened my skin more than strengthen it.

There was some confusion initially, post check in and while waiting, I received a text message notifying that the vdo consult would be 30 minutes late. Since we had purposely opted for an in person appointment with the specialist 2 months prior, we were quite confused. Had to go back to the front desk to check, they also were confused since per their records I was checked in for an in-person appointment and the specialist's staff was duly aware. We waited patiently. The MA came within 5-7 minutes and took us to do the vitals etc. We were asked to wait for just some more time as the specialist was busy with an emergency case, which is absolutely understandable. Waiting was not a problem so long as we were able to do the meeting in-person. Overall a satisfactory experience. Also, the specialist was as knowledgeable as we expected. And despite them being in a rush due to the other patient who needed their attention later again, they were able to spend some quick but quality time with us. Appreciated.

The care I received from the time I checked in until the time I left after surgery was superb. My doctor, nurses, anesthesiologists were incredible! The facility is cutting edge. I felt cared for and listened to the entire time!

This is my second stay here. First time five stars. This time 3.5 stars rounded up. What could make…read moreit better? Maybe better coordination of the kitchen services. Also their parking attendants can be annoying. My surgery got cancelled when I was literally about to be wheeled in because the power went out. So this delayed my stay here unfortunately. Never found out what the cause was. First time I was here was in the ICU and General Hospital area one year ago. Second time is the general area and I'm still here as I'm typing this! Day 6 and counting... Yeah it's old school, but the windows open to fresh air. I always have a lovely view, this time with a glimpse of the bay. The WiFi is fast, I dig the old school private bathrooms however it would be nice to have handheld shower heads. Also the automatic sink in my room didn't work. It gets boring being stuck in a hospital so I ordered some sheet masks and Amazon delivered. Had no issues getting those to my room. Also DoorDash is no issue. The nurses are efficient and friendly and put up with my demands lol. From the nurse attendants to janitorial staff to night shift nurses, everyone has been professional. Shout out to nurses Tiffany and Fabio who made my stay more tolerable. I hope to get out of here in a couple of days. If I have the misfortune of being here again, I won't be dreading it.

They have you take a ticket even if you have an appointment, which led to confusion and everyone in the waiting room coaching each other about what to do. 2. I had an appointment for a blood draw that took less than 10 minutes. The minimum fee for the parking garage is $8.00 for the first hour, with no grace period for short appointments. The payment machine is confusing as well so it has about 20 notes stuck on it. The attendant had to keep exiting the booth to help people.
