What's my guilty pleasure.....going to Cracker Barrel on a Sunday morning for breakfast. Now this particular day there as a wait time of about 30 min due to the kitchen being behind. But no problem....we'll just shop around lol. The store has the best times for purchase. And they are all of good quality! The store is so always a stocked with plenty to purchase and browse through. And the restaurant is always clean with plenty of seating. My waitress name was Grace and she was the sweetest worker biggest personality! We really enjoyed her. I pretty much get the same thing every time I go but that's because Mommas Breakfast is so darn good!! Maybe next time I'll try something different....maybe lol. I always order a to go meal for dinner to take home. It's $5! You can't beat that. And they have about 3-4 meals to choose from. It's always a great experience when going to Cracker Barrell. read more

I arrived super late and departed super early, so there was no opportunity to dine in the restaurant but I will definitely get a CB breakfast soon. Yes, Cracker Barrel tolerates RVers using their parking lot for overnight parking with the polite request that you make a purchase. It's not required but it's a nice thing to do. What is required is to be respectful of the space - no camping, no noise and no litter. I had a peaceful night's sleep and was gone well before they opened. Perfect for me and I owe you one, CB! Waitress was very nice, took her a little bit to get our drink order but that's fine. As we were sitting there we noticed all of the waitresses kept apologizing for the kitchen being behind or forgetting the food. We wait for an hour to get our food, and it was a basic meal and the special. Once we got it, the food was not even warm, it was very rubbery and greasy. So, the most important parts are service, accuracy, cleanliness and efficiency. Started out great. Prompt hostess stand, friendly and efficient. Next was the server. Very friendly and fun, playful with the normal dad jokes that I always have to make. Our order was taken quickly, and arrived quickly and accurately as well. The food was really good. The "new" chicken broccoli cheddar is a real hit. 3 out of 4 of us got it and we all really liked it. Our server, Allison, was great. Though she was quite busy (apparently it is busy Wednesday because of this Cheddar Broccoli special being so popular, she was still attentive and quick. Super. One of the nicer Cracker Barrel restaurants we've stopped at. They were not very busy when we arrived. We had a nice table and it was very quiet for a change. Our server, Katie took our order. My wife got the Beans & Greens and I got the Pork Chop dinner with Baked Potato Greens. The CB Greens are so good and are consistent at every location that we can't resist ordering when we eat at one. Everything was fixed very well and delicious. My chops were tender and just right. The overall experience was terrible!! If I could give a 0 I would. I have visited this restaurant several times and only go back because I love the baked potatoes and salad when done right. That's only about 1 out of 5 visits. My group was ready to order drinks and food and the waitress said oh I can only take your drink order I forgot my notebook. She said she would get the food order when she returned with our drinks. She basically threw the drinks on the table and took off to the table beside us to get their drink order. She finally returned to get our food order about 5 minutes later. We got our food except for my baked potato which she said would come out later. She brought us our check and said have a nice day. I had to find her to tell her I never got my potato. I said I will just get it to go we are ready to leave. I told her when I ordered it and again when I told her I never got it I wanted the cheese on the side. It wasn't and it tasted and looked liked it had been done for years. We also had house salads without chicken and when we got our check it said we had chicken on them. I told the waitress and she said they had no way to ring it in like that. They would have to do it at the register. There was also supposed to be 2 separate checks and it came as 1. Luckily, there was a helpful lady at the checkout who got it straightened out. When I first said at the table, I asked the waitress Katie Cr to please bring me some water and some napkins. I also ordered a coffee after she brought me the coffee in the water she took my order. I asked questions I've been to Cracker Barrel several times and never really had breakfast so I didn't know how or what to expect , but she wasn't too happy to answer my questions. I saw her walk around with a pot of coffee never came to my table to ask me if I wanted any more coffee. I had to ask another waitress Danielle to give me some more coffee please when she dropped off the food she did just that she dropped off the food. She didn't ask me if I needed anything else so I need it to have to wait until I can get it back to get me my hot sauce and napkins for the second time and she was irritated She dropped off the check she never brought me any more coffee and a big coffee drinker and I usually go to Cracker Barrel and usually take a couple to go with me because they waitress always offer it to me. What a disappointment! Once food arrived at table, everything was cold. Even the beans. If I owned stock in Cracker Barrel....I would be selling. Quickly. Rant: Mattoon Cracker Barrel sucks! My Door Dash to-go order had barely a third of a cup of gravy for 3 biscuits, and my piece of apple pie was a half a piece at most crammed into a small round container. THEN I called to complain and was put on hold for over five minutes to speak to the manager and forced to listen country music. I would like to give them chicken fried and a cold beer on a Friday night over the head. THEN I relayed my irritation to person who answered the phone who said, "I'm sorry. The service and food are awful. Ordered the sampler with meatloaf and the chicken and dumplings with Mac n cheese and green beans on the side. We brought out chicken, the chicken n dumplings, a side of dumplings and Mac n cheese. I told the waitress what was wrong. She then brought out the meatloaf with the chicken n dumplins, still a side of dumplings with Mac n cheese. I said again what I ordered. This was my first time visiting a cracker barrel and was so disappointed by both the food and the service. I will not be back. My family and I came here for lunch on Saturday as a prty of 5. There was no wait, which was nice. We got seated in a back corner and was served by a young man who was pretty friendly. While we were waiting for our food, we were given several baskets of biscuits, which were amazing. You can never go wrong with cracker barrel biscuits. These biscuits set a high bar for the actual meal. We waited for our food for a good half an hour, and when our food came, we were very disappointed. First of all, the waiter had messed up the order for two of the members in our group. In particular, my little brother ordered a medium rare state that came out as a VERY well done steak. After I brought this up to the server, he said that they could go remake it but it would take another half an hour!! Obviously we couldn't wait another half an hour for the steak, so he ate the steak but it did not taste good. Second, our food all came out lukewarm, and everything tasted bland and boring. It was very unpleasant to eat. After the server dropped off our food, he never came back to check on us. It took 10 minutes just to flag him down to get the bill. It was ridiculous. You should definitely go to a cracker barrel if you have never been to one, but I would not recommend this location. read more

What the heck happened?! We go here quite often. Yesterday was the last for a while. All orders were wrong. All four. My eggs were wrong, husbands eggs wrong, sons toast wrong and other sons meal wrong. Really weird. Never got jam for the toast so it sat there untouched, never got hot sauce. Had two mini cups of coffee and the second was lucky because I flagged down another waitress for a refill. Husband received maybe a two bite portion of hash casserole. Overall crummy experience. When we arrived, we entered and were told we needed masks to eat. Huh? Ok so we stood INSIDE the restaurant for AT LEAST A MINUTE while they got us all masks. We put them on then walked to our table for a whole four or five seconds. Yeah no logic there. wasn't sure if I was allowed to remove them to eat ‍but looked around for clarity. Once we got home, I made another breakfast for the family. We aren't hogs. The service and food was maybe right above Denny's. Bummer. This is a complaint about the Cracker Barrel app. I ordered and paid on the app but the Mattoon IL restaurant only received 1/2 my order. Very disappointed. I Love the Mattoon restaurant, one of the very best! I don't know who is in charge of the app/online ordering but if the problems could be fixed I would purchase more meals at Cracker Barrel. My first ever disappointment in Crackerbarrel. Service was really bad. My hashbrowns casserole was two tablespoons TOPS. My sausage patties were tough and tasted reheated. My eggs were DRY and the gravy portion was very small. I wanted more but, after dropping the check our waitress never came back. We tried waving her down multiple times but, she would not make eye contact. The table next to us was complaining as well about the service. I'll continue to frequent our local CB in Bloomington, IL but, I don't think I'll be stopping at this location again. read more

I've never really been a big fan of Cracker Barrel but our prison ministry trips that take us downstate results in us visiting one on occasion. The two starts doesn't mean it was bad it just doesn't excite me like a Thai or Indian cuisine or simply a blood pump clogging joint. I usually have the chicken tenders which are good but ho hum in craving. This time I went with the pot roast and for a gravy saturated dish it was nothing to make a A-OK about. The service has always been 'Yay I'm a fan' but you can only enjoy the service so much it's the food, the chow, the grub that determines a 'Woohoo' verses an 'Eek' The others in the group seem to always enjoy it since they chose it often (I'm one who prefers to go with the flow so as not to feel I need to have my way) so perhaps for the not fussy bears it is an A-OK but me I've had better. This is my first visit to Cracker Barrel and I am quite pleased with the experience. The store is well stocked and plenty of gifts to choose from. Upon entering the restaurant, there's a fireplace to the right and it makes the entire place warm and cozy. The service was great and the food was good. At this time of the year, they serve apple cider, which was what I had. I also ordered the sausage with hash brown casserole. The potatoes were a little dry though, probably left out for too long. I love their apple butter and it goes really well with the biscuit. When we're done, the server didn't give us a hard time for splitting the checks even though we're a big group. So, a big plus to that. If you want to check it out, make sure you go early because they are extremely popular in Mattoon. 3.5 stars for me. read more

I give this place 3 stars. Some days are good, some days are horrible. My family and I often Go to the one in Mattoon IL. There are days when service is horrible. For example, when my daughter and I got seated, we waited 10 minutes for our waitress to take our drink orders. We even asked the hostess if our waitress forgot about us. She insisted that the waitress will be right out. Of course after waiting 10 minutes she finally took our order. I know that this place can get a little busy but on this day, it wasn't busy at all. There were only 3 other families in our section. The good days are when we get our orders in and our food is delivered to us in a timely matter. A cracker barrel is a cracker barrel right? I mean they all have the same menus and things in the store but it's good.
