This has put me and my ex husband in a very precarious position since now that we are divorced neither of us can move on with our lives until this house is on the market and sold. If he would actually answer or return my calls I would be much more forgiving. but the last message I left yesterday was "Call me back or I'm going to Yelp with a bad review" Alas, still no call. After their client purchased a building we were renting an apartment in, they proceeded to increase…read moreour rent by nearly 50%. The original lease we had stated the carpets were in bad condition when we moved in, yet this new manager refused to return our security deposit. I purposely withheld last month's rent as I suspected this would be an issue, despite the property management company's owner Matt Freedman insisting they were a professional company and would not hold our deposit for things already listed as bad when when moved in. This left a balance due to us of $250. They also entered our apartment illegally, without any notice, while we were in the process of moving. They left a combination key lock on our door and locked the apartment we had purposely left open for my daughter to get her things. This impeded our move and we got no acknowledgement from BlackAcre Property Management or the building owner, not even an apology. When inquiring about this money owed to us, it took multiple emails and phone calls to even get a reply, which by itself is very unprofessional. The reply I finally got was that, per the owner, I would not be receiving my deposit back due to stains on the carpets making them unusable. The same carpet that was listed as bad on our original lease. They are holding us accountable for previous damages we did not do. The carpets were already in unusable condition when we moved in on a temporary, emergency basis. I am currently in the process of taking alternative routes to get my deposit back. In the meantime, tenants beware of this agency. They are unprofessional and greedy! I am glad I withheld December's rent or they would have surely kept the whole thing!
