@Eyecare Specialties Craig…read more Just a heads up for anyone needing eye care in Craig--especially if you're on a budget or using insurance. I had a really disappointing experience with Eyecare Specialties in Craig. Yesterday, they confirmed they accepted my grandson's vision insurance, but when I arrived today for his appointment, they said they didn't. That was frustrating enough, but things got worse. While waiting for his exam to finish, the same man who had checked me in came over and asked if I'd "been helped." I told him yes, and then he asked, "So you're waiting on someone?" I was--obviously. It felt a little odd and dismissive. After the exam, I went to pay and noticed the pupillary distance (PD) was missing from the prescription. I asked for it since it's needed to order glasses online, and they refused to provide it. They told me their policy is to only include PD if you buy glasses from them. I reminded them I was paying for the exam and prescription, but they stuck to their policy. To be clear, doctors don't get to control where I fill a prescription--just like a pharmacy can't make you buy meds from them directly. The estimate for glasses there was nearly $400, while I can get them online (with the same prescription!) for under $100. It's my money and my choice. My advice? Go to Mountain Eyeworks instead. They gave me a full prescription without hesitation, were kind and professional, and never questioned why I was sitting in the waiting room. Even knowing I wasn't buying glasses from them, they treated me with respect. I only went to Eyecare Specialties because I thought they took my grandson's insurance--but I won't make that mistake again. Just sharing in case it helps someone else avoid a similar situation.

I took my husband to Valley Vision in Glenwood Springs for eye exams and new lenses, as it had been…read morea few years since our last visits. My appointment went fine and I did not need any changes. My husband was told he needed new lenses, and we purchased the highest-quality option available with all recommended upgrades. The lenses alone were nearly $1,000, not including frames. The moment he put them on, it was clear something was wrong. They function like bifocals, which he has never worn in his life and was never told he was being prescribed. We understand there can be an adjustment period with new lenses, but it has now been almost two weeks with no improvement. In fact, his vision is significantly worse, and he is having serious difficulty seeing clearly. Prior to these lenses, he had no issues. We returned to the office to address the problem and request a correction, but the staff were unhelpful, dismissive, and unwilling to take accountability. He is experiencing ongoing difficulty seeing correctly, and we are confident these lenses are not accurate. This has been an extremely frustrating experience, especially given the cost, and we are very disappointed by both the lack of support and the unwillingness to resolve a clear issue.

He immediately diagnosed it as a cataract problem, referring me to an excellent dataract surgeon, and followed treatment. All worked out extremely well. Can't say enough about attention a care from this doctor. Was surprised that I had to work my way through other doctors to get correct diagnosis of cataract problem. Would think cataract would be first thing on list when someone 78 comes into office with blurry vision in one eye.
