In Utah, when it's hot - IT'S HOT! We had a waterline burst on the swamp cooler supply line. This is our duplex and both tenants were concerned that we get this fixed quickly. Edward came out on a Saturday. He replaced the broken line and had my tenants "chillin'" by mid afternoon. We have been doing business with Cransten for years. We have had one job that was not satisfactory and they sent out a different tech who did the job completely satisfactorily. This is our GO TO for handyman services. read more

I Google Angie and 1st person who contacted me was Brian at cransten. I explained that my patio door wouldn't close and the know had been damaged by me trying to open the door. I explained that the problem had to be resolved asap in order to secure my home. he quoted me $560.00 whi h he said included materials. also if less money he would adjust the cost. he made me give my credit card information and charged my bank account even before the work was done. Brian sent a guy named Adam who was absolutely kind, knowledgeable and professional. he shaved one door, had me go to Lowe's at my expense and buy sanding various papers new locks and bonded. total costs around $100. i callec brian before going to lowes and reminded him he quoted me the price which included everything. he said he must have not taken into account items that were not on hand. Adam was already working on the door. I spoke to Brian about why I was paying for the materials, he said that he always makes clients pay for their own stuff. what? Brian had already taken my money prior to the job without knowing exactly what needed to be done. sour taste is my mouth. i called other places afterwards and they said i had been taken advantage of. the job shouldn't have cost $560 plus $100 to have me go shopping for materials they should have had on hand. only good outcome was Adam was kind sanded the door so it would close and allow me to secure my home. I wouldn't recommend this business to anyone. The comments Trevor left me were totally untrue. I spoke with Brian not Trevor so he knows nothing about the situation. the job was expressed with certainly that they would know what was needed to fix the door to make it close. Bonds, at $30 va Bonds, at $30, different sizes of sanding paper with dispenser to put sandpaper on to sand. I asked Brian directly if door knows were included and he assured me they were. I had to leave my home with a stranger while I rounded up the items needed for the job. Brian quoted me for a French door however only one door had to be sanded down. price still should be adjusted. let me make it clear, Adam was a good guy and my door doesn't stick. however the locks aren't that easy to lock and he tried his best to get the lock to go smoothly. I also didn't appreciate the phone message after Trevor read my review. it was rude, and expecting me to change my review at your request isn't going to happen. we hired Cransten to do a remodel of our kitchen, master bath and floors in kitchen, dining room, living room, stairs and upstairs den. The initial process was different then I had seen before with me going over the scope of work with a project manager on the phone and me sending pictures of the rooms and spaces that would be remodeled. Different isn't bad their process worked very well. before the work the contractor Robert Mettlach made an appointment to complete a walk through. Robert showed up early which was a pleasant surprise as most companies get there when they want. We eventually signed after a price was given. The billing process was simple. And several people from the company checked in with me each week to ensure we were happy and things were going good. A date was set to begin the demo and the project. Robert Mettlach actually asked us what time he could start and was incredibly thoughtful of us the entire length of the process. His plan was always with us in mind in order to inconvenience us as little as he possibly could. when the time was set for the work to begin Robert was again early patiently waiting to come to the door. He was early everyday and worked incredibly hard. His communication was constant throughout each work day to ensure we knew what his work plan was for the day, and gave us constant updates. He was absolutely a joy and pleasure to work with. He came to work every day happy and with an incredibly positive outlook on the project. Once the demo was complete he started the the work, and again continued the great communication of his plan which absolutely revolved around us being as comfortable as possible. Again he always arrived early and worked incredibly hard everyday. when it comes to Roberts work, he absolutely is the best and most knowledgeable contractor we have ever worked with. The quality of his work was incredible. I have seen a ton of handymen, but Robert's work was more than that. Robert is a true craftsmen and everything was perfect. His knowledge of flooring, drywall, plumbing , electrical, tile work and overall construction was something I have never seen before. This job would have taken any other contractor twice as long to complete and the quality would not of been half as nice. Robert Mettlach is a true professiona. Cransten was so easy to deal with. I will definitely call them for our next remodel and will definitely request Robert. We actually miss seeing him everyday. read more

But but but.... the owner called and really worked hard to fix my issue.... my issue.... they make me tell them a huge story before telling me they require payment first.. I hate that but at least these guys seem honest and up front. If you have a problem, they'll probably try and fix I. Horrible... I called these guys to schedule some work done. They asked me ten minutes worth of questions only to say, " now we need your credit card so we can schedule this".... Idk if you have ever worked with people on your house, roofers, handymen, landscapers, etc... but anyone that asks for payment info up front, you are completely out of your mind. Do not use these guys unless your comfortable having these folks holding all of your credit card info before work is even done. If they would have led with that, I could have saved 10 minutes of my time. Also, when I questioned the practice, the nice woman on the phone said it's like hotels!! We called Cranston to get a handyman to assemble a 10x14 shed we had purchased at Lowe's. They gave us a bid for the project , then asked for a credit card to hold til the work was done. I was promptly contacted by Matthew B, one of their Handymen who arranged a start time to begin building the shed. Matthew was awesome. Worked steadily all day in the wind, snow, and rain. Very good worker! As it was getting dark and cold and shed was not completed, he said he would be back in the morning to finish. He showed up first thing and worked in even worse weather til the miserable shed was completed. (8 zillion screws and it was a poor purchase on my part-never again!) Matthew gets 10 stars!! However when it was time to pay, the invoice was different than the price quoted. After speaking with Brian at Cranston's, we could agree that there was some communication errors and he agreed to a refund. The company was easy to work with and Matthew was excellent. Last month, the handyman did not show up for the appointment scheduled weeks in advance with the manager, Brian. After contacting Brian later that day, he assured me the handyman was probably just running late. He would call the handyman, and the handyman would call me. That too, never happened. The comments by Cransten posted here are very miss-leading. The only miscommunication was between them and their contractors. And perhaps the fact that they would tell me that someone would be there yet no one would show up. I don't know what he is talking about an additional contractor. There never was one discussed or even thought of by me, lies lies pure lies. The project was in my living room. involving most of one wall. So when he offered for someone to come out the 26th of Dec I said no to wait until the 3rd of January soo we could enjoy Christmas. The man they sent last, did not come prepared with tools, and told me the work was so poorly done he was embarrassed to continue it. read more

I called Cransten to fix wood rot at our home and was very pleased. Work was done quickly and looked like new when he was done. I got a very good feeling from this company and would use them and highly recommend them. read more

all i need to say is they said this would be a 2 week project and here we are 9 weeks later and it's not done. Why, because the first 7 days of work was ripped out and we started at 0 and then they never scheduled anybody to come work here. Run as far and as fast away from this company as possible. I am sharing my experience in hopes to prevent someone else's nightmare. We hired Cranston in April. I gave them a credit card to get on the schedule after I had approved the initial quote. Trevor, the owner, came over to review everything with me and understood that time is of the essence as we were selling our home and needed the tile work to be done quickly. He assured me that this job would only take 1 week. I also had him come over to our new home to give me a bid. The day rolls around that the employee was supposed to show up to do the work. He was a no show. No one called me. Frustrated, I emailed Trevor to say that I wanted to cancel the job. No surprise, he called me right back. He said that someone would be there the next day. The tile guy did show up the next day and proceeded to work on our tile in the master bathroom. He was stressed about the job. After speaking with him, I learned that they do not vet their employees like they claim. A week went by, and he wasn't finished, he said he needed more time. Almost another week goes by, and he finally finished the job. He said he was so glad to be able to finish in "such a time crunch." I was told 1 week, and he took almost 2. I went to the house the next morning and I was mortified. This is the worst tile job I've ever seen. He had dropped the tile in the tub, which put several holes in the tub. I was so embarrassed, and our open house was that day. I text Troy, the project manager. He only came over to collect payment, which is apparently the only thing they care about. I told him this is unacceptable. He let me know he could come see it sometime in the next couple of days, very nonchalantly. I proceeded to get several text messages from the installer saying basically that he's sorry that I don't like his work. Who lets their employees send messages to customers like that? They finally came over to see it later the next week. As we had accepted an offer on the house, we told him that it needed to be completed before we closed, which was in 3 weeks. Then proceeded to not show up for another week after that. Needless to say, they did not complete the work before our closing date. When I was sent pictures by the realtor, there were holes in the ceiling, holes in the grout, areas with no caulking, holes on the floor, the new tub didn't work, areas that weren't painted, etc. I text Trevor to let him know that the job isn't done. With which I received a reply that we were "being too picky" and he "doesn't understand how he got in the middle of this." They broke the shower door, so we had to buy another one, which was custom, and they didn't fix the dimmer in the bathroom, which was part of the job. Also, replaced lights with entirely new lights that didn't work off of the dimmer. We had to push our close date 2 times so they could complete the job. Which to add, cost us a lot of money. I still am not satisfied with the job. It is not finished. They sent me the final bill. Didn't include a discount, an apology for such horrible work or at least an apology for a 1-week job taking 2 months. They had included items I never approved, including trying to charge me for the new tub. I asked him about a discount, and he proceeded to tell me that the discount was the material they went and purchased to redo the job. He also proceeded to send me a very derogatory and condescending email about how he thinks I have made things so hard in my life and that I needed to do the right thing and just pay them. After the hell they put me through and now I get this abusive email. I told him to charge the card on file and be done with it. He said he would do it on Monday. On Monday he tried to charge the card, but I forgot I had charged a lot of stuff on it for the construction on our new home. So, it declined. He sends me a text saying it declined and I told him I would call the office to update the card. The next day, Trevor decides to come to our new home and proceeds to tell all the construction people what a horrible person I am and that I own them money. If he was them, he would stop working on the project. I get a call from my contractor telling me this. I couldn't believe it. I had to look at the cameras to see what happened, because I was in complete shock. We had to call the cops and file a police report for trespassing. This man not only screwed up our entire bathroom for 2 months, but he also caused the workers to stop working on our home. This company has cost us Tens of Thousands of Dollars for their screw ups and horrible work. Things clearly, they should have no business doing. Never an apology, never they can do things better. Always, always the customer's fault. So, do yourself a huge favor. RUN from this company. Don't trust them. You'll thank me... read more

Dave from Cransten installed a new entry door for us and did a fantastic job. It was a beast of a door too (~180 lbs). Scheduling with Cransten couldn't be easier. I did it over the phone, got a time slot for later that week. They gave me a hourly rate and time estimate on the phone and Dave was right on target with that. I'll definitely be using Cransten Handyman again for other jobs. read more

How in the world did this company get such high ratings and good reviews. I had a leak in a dormer window, and selected them because of good reviews on Angies (Which I was using for the first time). They told me there was a 3 week wait for an appointment! I made the appointment, and the day before, they emailed me to say the guy was having a problem with his vehicle, and the closest appointment was a week away. I re-scheduled. Today, only 3 days after re-scheduling my appointment, I got a phone message, saying the man could not come out next week, and it would be at least THREE MONTHS before they could send someone. I called to ask why, and they said the man had left them. So what--this is a national company and they only had one person available for Middle Tennessee, who is now gone, so they have no one? Now I wonder if I can trust the reviews on Angie's list, based on this--my only experience with them. read more
