I waited less than 5 minutes after checking in at the front desk. After meeting my manicurist, Jessica, she took me to the handwashing station. It looks like the machines to dry your hands in a public bathroom, but with real, cold, water. Jessica suggested taking off my coat, watch, and rings. When it was finished, she handed me a paper towel to dry off. We then went to her station. The stations are small, but no different than any other salon. She started off with several questions about my expectations for service. We talked about what shape and color I wanted, and she made suggestions based on the shape my nails were in. She then called her instructor over, she made suggestions, and we were able to start. We talked nonstop through the appointment, but she was sure to pause if she had a question about what I wanted. Jessica was gentle and careful. She complimented my choice of color several times. I chose a light color, so it required 3 coats to cover. Once I was finished, she called over the instructor again to approve the service. I was there for several hours, but the time passed quickly, so I didn't notice until I got to my car again. She even took a picture of my nails for her portfolio! I was very pleased with my experience, and I highly recommend Jessica at Grabber!

I have been back many times since my last review, so I thought it only fair to update my review…read morebased on more recent experiences. I didn't go back for a long time, but I eventually decided to try it again, and I've had only good experiences since I did. Possibly they've taken complaints to heart and have made changes, because it is much better now. I go a couple of times a year to get low lights in my hair, and they always do a really good job. Of course, since your hair is being done by students, you really have to be patient. If you're having a chemical treatment done, they will likely be slower than a more experienced stylist would be, so go in expecting to be there for a while, and don't expect the turnaround time you'd get in a full salon. In addition to practicing their styling skills, they are also practicing being chatty with the customer while they're working. It's what you get in a full-service salon, so it's part of what they're learning. If you're the kind of person who just wants to relax in silence while you're hair is being done, you can probably tell them so at the beginning, but otherwise most of them will be chatting with you the whole time, because that's part of what stylists do. All in all, the service here has improved over the years, and you cannot beat the price. Important note: Tips are appreciated, just like in a salon, but you can only leave cash. If you charge the service with debit or credit, they don't have the ability to add the tip there at the register, so I always make sure I have cash with me.

Left my entire back soaked after washing my hair, and I asked them if I could please get a towel, and they not only ignored me after asking repeatedly - but they were extremely rude and got angry with me for their mistake. The instructors could've apologized for the students actions, but instead acted clueless (don't know if it's acting at this point because they aren't the brightest there) and kept saying "well they're students, how are they supposed to know any better?" Listening. You get better by listening and taking action. Not ignoring your customers' request so you don't have to do more work (especially when it's already part of your job). I sincerely don't think asking for a towel or some type of help when your back is DRIPPING FROM A HAIR WASH is asking for too much. Especially when asking for help nicely, multiple times.

The worst experience I've ever had at a beauty school…read more I had a full highlight (2-color) appointment scheduled from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM, but I didn't leave until after 4:00 PM--and they still didn't finish the service properly. What followed was a series of issues that clearly reflect poor management, lack of student support, and an overall disappointing experience that I wouldn't wish on anyone. First, they assigned a brand new student to my appointment--despite this being a complex color service--and offered little to no guidance throughout. There was no oversight, no mentoring, and no intervention until things were already going downhill. To make matters worse, the only "help" being offered was from what appeared to be the youngest member of the school's family, who looked to be about 18-20 years old. She didn't seem confident, wasn't grounded in training herself, and ignored my specific request for a two-tone highlight. Instead, she simply told the student to "just use bleach." By around 1:00 PM, an older instructor saw how behind my student was and verbally suggested another student help--but never followed through. Instead of giving any actual support, she disappeared into the back room, and no teamwork or leadership followed. Because of this lack of structure and support, it took until nearly closing time just to finish foiling my hair--no color, no toner, no wash, nothing had happened yet. At that point, they tried to tell the student to just "use purple shampoo" to fix the orange/yellow tones--which is just not how that works. When I pushed back, an older instructor reluctantly stepped in to assist with toner selection. But she clearly wanted to go home--it was already after hours--and the toner was left on for less than 5 minutes, doing virtually nothing. Once they dried part of my hair so I could see the results, it only got worse. I immediately noticed uneven, patchy color and a large orange-blonde blotch near the back of my head that they tried to brush over and conceal. It was clear at this point that the foil placement was off and the execution failed. Even after all this, the young family member/instructor couldn't offer any answers. She charged me more than the original quote, blamed it on the toner not being added in the ticket, and had no explanation about how they planned to fix the issue. I was rescheduled for two weekends later but received no clarity on what they'd do or whether I'd be charged again. To fix it, I had to go to Sally's and spend another $45 on toner, developer, and purple shampoo just to correct what I could on my own. What's even more disturbing is the culture I witnessed. That same younger instructor had her own clients that day and openly talked negatively about a previous client's hair in front of another one. Completely unprofessional. I've gone to 5-7 beauty schools over the years for color services and never experienced anything like this. I genuinely feel bad for students trying to get a quality education here. There's a complete lack of accountability, structure, or mentorship--and it clearly reflects in the results. I do not recommend this place--for services or education

Luckily in October I was sent to New Image to tour and talk to Denise about transferring. Denise was so reassuring and comforting about this school being much more professional and helpful durning the 1500 hours of training that is required. Without a doubt I would've been at a complete loss if it wasn't for Denise, Ms.Shirley and Krystal. I never thought I'd be able to cut a decent hair cut, do a solid highlight, updo or color until I was trained by these ladies. Even when they're busy taking care of students in different programs the girls I've been surrounded by for the past 8 months were always prepared to help me problem solve. Cosmetology school is expensive, but I can say from experience that their tuition cost is the best around and with it being such small classes you get a ton of one on one help with studying and practicing/ doing hair. I will forever remember and be grateful of my time here. Cosmology school is also draining BUT it gets better and easier as you move through to anybody out there looking for a place to go CALL New Image and book a tour with us, they start new students every first Tuesday of the month and offer cosmology, esthetics, and Nail tech Programs. It might be hard to get adjusted but you will meet the greatest people here *disclaimer* The photos I have posted are not all of my work, they include another student that currently attends New image. All of the girls do such beautiful jobs and I wish I had more to share, book now to get your hair lookin good

If I could, I would give 5 stars to my student Bailey, and 1 star to the Learning Leader Angela…read more I came in with a big hair color goal. Bailey was my student colorist and had not done balayage before. I was very impressed with her professionalism and commitment to learning a new color technique. She was engaged, fun, smart, and made sure I had a positive experience. She has all the great qualities needed for a successful future in this industry. The Learning Leader Angela was not a good educator. This was not my first time at PMTS. The previous LL I've had were hands on, supportive, encouraging, and engaged in teaching the students new skills and time management. That's what a school is! Angela did not do this. The LL are the experienced professionals. Although, I question Angela's experience with color because she never touched my hair or taught Bailey anything. Bailey had to rely on other LL and students. Angela's poor time management skills caused my appointment to go past the school closing time. She told me three times I would have to come back another day to finish. I told her it was not an option to leave the salon without my hair complete, and was frustrated she kept telling me to leave without a finished color service, even suggesting I take time off work or figure out child care to come back (completely clueless and inappropriate suggestions). It was disappointing to see an educator not take her responsibility seriously to empower and teach the next generation of her craft. If I have any future appointments scheduled under Angela, I will cancel them.

Let me start out my saying I know this is a beauty school, so I'm not expecting superior results…read morecompared to going to a professional salon or spa. However, I will say that I would expect my services to look professional and neat. I purchased a Living Social deal that had a facial wax, mani, micro-derm and chemical peel. I was more excited about the chemical peel and micro-derm because that can be a pricey service in a salon. For me, the wax and mani was just an added bonus. I called 2 weeks in advance to schedule my appointment. I didn't get a confirmation for my appointment, and I almost forgot about it. My student was very nice. The wax was good, the mani was horrible. I have bubbles and dings all over my nails. I could have done a better job and I'm not the best nail painter. She took her time and tried to be neat, but I still walked away with polish all around my nails. My mani probably took about an hour to complete, which I understand there is a learning curve. The chemical peel and micro-derm were just okay compared to other times I've received the same type of services. I asked what the protocol was since this was a school and she said that someone would check her work. Of the 4 services I received no one checked her work. I feel bad leaving not the most positive review for a beauty school let alone a student, however my overall issue was the lack of attention and checking after the services once complete. Other than that, it was a nice environment, nice conversation.
