Up until today I came from over an hour to get my hair cut here. I have done this for close to 14 years. Today I was informed by the front staff person that I was 2 minutes too late per a "learning leader" to get my haircut. I should mention that the nearest parking garage was closed. I had left time in my schedule to deal with the crazy drivers and the bridge blockage. Did not anticipate the parking garage being closed as yet another barrier. I have previously been one to allow pictures for Instagram portfolios for the budding professionals. I often tipped $20 sometimes $40 when services were odd or took long. I regularly paid parking. I brought Christmas and birthday presents for the stylists over the years. I NEVER complained when they were late, or cancelled while I was en route (admittedly this only happened once). In no way am I a perfect client, however they are not perfect. But you can see the text I have attached below. My appointment was for 130. It took several minutes to Fix this mistake that could clearly attribute to 120 seconds. So this afternoon, I was told that the appointment would take too long. Although they scheduled it this morning with no warnings? Also the appointment was with a student who is very near graduation and previously had my done in just about an hour. So they have no confidence in their people?!? The front office lady was professional but unhelpful in that west coast kind of way. No solutions were offered. Perhaps we could have done the cut only, or perhaps the learning leader could finish (for an extra fee I would cover). Although I'll never know because that was never offered. I know my leaving them will make no difference to their business success. Although, I guess they have gotten big enough that they can throw away long term customers. If anyone has a suggestion for a hairstylist for an above average, loyal client that is occasionally 2 minutes late please let me know.

    WHAT I HAD ASKED FOR

I had a TERRIBLE initial experience here - negative 100 stars. As you can see from the pictures, I did not get what I had asked for. Despite having spent 6 hours in the chair, they weren't able to dry me there because they had to close. SinceI left with wet hair, it wasn't until I went home and dried it myself that I saw what a botched job had been done. I cried. and cried. and cried some more. I was upset because I had spent almost $100 on it, and it was a train wreck. HOWEVER - I called the salon and eventually spoke to Kristine. WHO. IS. ABSOLUTELY. PHENOMENAL. Over the course of a couple days, she genuinely took the time to talk to me about what had happened. I sent her pictures of what I had wanted and what I got, and she booked me to come back in. Initially, they (person at the front desk who took my initial call) had told me I would have to pay for each color bowl used (their 7 day guarantee thing only cuts out "service" fee), but Kristine was kind enough to comp the re do. AND GOOD GOD DID ALLY AND MS. STACY and JORDAN DELIVER! Aly literally resurrected my hair from the dead, and Ms. Stacy and Jordan were there the entire time checking in making sure everything was going well. I had the opposite experience from a few days prior, and I am so thankful to this team of talented women for hearing my concerns and taking care of the problem. So moral of the story - it is a school, students will make mistakes. It never hurts to call in first and try to talk to someone about it before venting about them on Yelp or somewhere else (trust me, I initially wanted to). Aly - I know you are graduating soon. You are destined for greatness. Can't believe the job you did. xoxo Kristine - thank you so much for making sure this all got taken care of in the kindest way possible.

The color and the cut are literally amazing. Exactly what I wanted!

I got my hair color corrected and face framed by Rayni who was getting instructed by Aigner! The best duo my hair is the best i've seen it! Rayni made sure everything was perfect before beginning the process and Aigner helped with the process and the blowout!!

I can't believe I have never written a review about PM. So I love this place! I spent three years of my life coming here weekly to have my hair styled. I loved meeting the students and allowing them to style my hair. Most of the time, my hair looked great, but there were a few times where I had wear a hat :) All of the stylists are students so you must be willing to be patience and open to new items. Some students work faster than others. Give yourself plenty of time when you come to this salon. I had my wash, cut, color, curled and flat ironed at this place. I built relationships with the front desk staff and the learning leaders. As someone living in St. Louis alone, I cherished my time at Paul Mitchell. This salon became my family. I recently relocated out of state. My last visit to Paul Mitchell was hard. I knew I was saying goodbye to friends. I have nothing but great things to say about Paul Mitchell. Please go and let the work talk for itself. Oh and don't forgot about all of those points. You earn points every time you come in or buy products. Points quickly earn you free hair styles!

Run away! I am one for saving money but let me just say... a bad hair cut can't be undone. Color and cut were awful. I went in asking for just a few highlights in the front for the end of summer (sun kissed look) and a simple hair cut. I showed the woman a picture of what I wanted and explained the concept. Flash forward, I have a yellow/gold strip on both sides of my hair resembling something of the mom in The Munsters (look it up for reference) or like a black and white cake with my hair in a ponytail (not the sun kissed look I was going for). As for the haircut... she chopped a chunk of hair in front of my ear that is about 3 inches long... some what resembling a side burn...just one side burn so it's not even balanced on the other side! (Let me remind you when considering places to get your hair cut.. cut hair CANNOT be undone) I liked my previous layers so I just asked for everything to be trimmed up with a few more layers added in and a nice face framing... What I got, was two layers in the back... it was incredibly choppy and uneven. My hair began to flip out and looked horrible so she continued to cut. She straighten it saying I need to turn the straightener down to control the flip. For clarification purposes, my hair has had layers in it for 15 years and I don't have a problem with my hair flipping up. My hair looks like it's right out of the 90's next to Justin Timberlake's frozen tips and jean one pieces, flips and streaks in all. P.S. The instructor never came by, even at the end of the appointment.

I waited less than 5 minutes after checking in at the front desk. After meeting my manicurist, Jessica, she took me to the handwashing station. It looks like the machines to dry your hands in a public bathroom, but with real, cold, water. Jessica suggested taking off my coat, watch, and rings. When it was finished, she handed me a paper towel to dry off. We then went to her station. The stations are small, but no different than any other salon. She started off with several questions about my expectations for service. We talked about what shape and color I wanted, and she made suggestions based on the shape my nails were in. She then called her instructor over, she made suggestions, and we were able to start. We talked nonstop through the appointment, but she was sure to pause if she had a question about what I wanted. Jessica was gentle and careful. She complimented my choice of color several times. I chose a light color, so it required 3 coats to cover. Once I was finished, she called over the instructor again to approve the service. I was there for several hours, but the time passed quickly, so I didn't notice until I got to my car again. She even took a picture of my nails for her portfolio! I was very pleased with my experience, and I highly recommend Jessica at Grabber!

U.S. Department of Education March 27, 2025…read moreRE: National Academy of Beauty Arts Borrower's Defense (OPE ID: 00952000) To Whom It May Concern: I am writing to formally raise concerns about my experience as a student at the National Academy of Beauty Arts, located at 157 Concord Plaza Shopping Center, Affton, MO 63128. I attended the school from November 29, 2011, to July 17, 2012, under the name Brittany Sue Dunsmoor (Bonds). During my enrollment, I faced numerous issues related to my education and financial aid, which I believe warrant investigation. First, I was never provided with proper documentation or paperwork regarding my academic records, and I am uncertain if my clock hours were ever reported to the Missouri Board of Cosmetology & Barber Examiners. At the time, I was urged to quickly sign up for classes due to "limited spots" and high demand, which I later realized was untrue as the classes were not large. Additionally, I was advised by the financial aid officer to take out loans for "living expenses," but I never received any funds, and I was not fully informed of my rights and options regarding this. I was often pressured to sign paperwork in haste, sometimes in the middle of client services, without sufficient time to review the documents. With the closure of the school a few years ago, I am concerned about the whereabouts of my records and whether they can still be accessed. Regarding my education, I experienced several issues with both the curriculum and instructors. For instance, my "freshman class" teacher, Miss Jennifer Buffy, passed all students with an "A" grade after a practical exam on curling iron use. When I asked for feedback to improve, I was told that we all received an "A" and that there was no need for concern. There were no grading rubrics or detailed evaluations for practical exams. I was also informed prior to admission that there would be three opportunities for mock state board exams, but I had no such practice during my time at the school. Additionally, I never received the state board exam kit I had paid for as part of my student loans. The school also misrepresented the nature of the program. I was told that we would be engaging in book work one night a week and working with live models the rest of the time. However, in reality, much of the time was spent sitting idle in the lunchroom waiting for clients. Students who were not close with the front desk staff often struggled to get clients to work on. I attempted to use a mannequin to practice, but was told the stations were reserved exclusively for live models. I also witnessed instances of students clocking in at the beginning of the night, leaving the premises, and then sneaking back in at the end to clock out, falsely earning hours toward their program. This was a clear violation of state regulations and contributed to inaccurate reporting to the Missouri Board of Cosmetology & Barber Examiners. In terms of job placement, the school claimed a high rate of successful graduates but never provided any statistical evidence or resources for job placement. Several student instructors were hired to fill gaps left by absent faculty members, creating an uncomfortable and unprofessional learning environment due to constant staff turnover. The National Academy of Beauty Arts has faced multiple closures and has been involved in news reports regarding mismanagement of loans and fraud. I have also enclosed a letter from a former financial aid coordinator addressing fraudulent practices related to student loans. I request that the Department of Education investigate these matters, I filed a formal Borrower's Defense Case #08851826 on June 24, 2022 and have not received any updates, as I am concerned about the validity of my student aid loans, the misuse of federal student loans, and the lack of transparency and accountability at the school. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Should you require any additional information, please feel free to contact me at the following: Brittany Bonds

Also during the the 1st 4-weeks we were visited by: * A Dermalogica skin care representative. Crave/Pivot Point has a contract with Dermalogica (textbook, videos, skincare products, etc.). The representative gave us a 'Show-N-Tell' of Detmalogica (Who, What, Where, Why) company and products we'd be using at Crave. * We were also visited by a business owner who owns a Fantastic Sam's hair salon franchise owner who spoke to us about the many facets and careers in the beauty industry. * We were visited by The European Wax Center who also gave us an intimate look into their company, a 'Show-N-Tell' about waxing, types of wax and how important it is to choose the right type of wax for various waxing procedures. We received a Crave apron, our name tag, a Crave water bottle, our student Esthetician professional license so we can purchase equipment, product and tools for training and upon our 4th week our student insurance certificates. I am pleased with the learning phase. I also learned that Crave Beauty Academy teaches each student Esthetician the very basics of becoming a professional Esthetician but does not have the latest equipment for each student to perform the latest skincare method. Everything is done via hands-on using a facial steamer & magnifying lamp. We are told, we can ask for some equipment if the instructor seems it necessary to use on a client. But they only have 1 electric mask, 1 infared machine, 1 this and that..not enough for each student to learn during the 'on-the-floor' hands-on client training phase. The student Esthetician will receive professional products to keep for themselves and for client use (in their kit), which you'll receive 8-weeks into the program: *Crave jacket (it's chilly in the building) *Crave Smock/for use when working with client *waxing kit *Makeup & makeup tools *Skincare products *Eyelash kit *Etc. Check out the vids and pics of the school and I hope you choose the school you'll want to visit! I'll see if I can post videos on Google reviews.

I really wanted to love my experience here because the salon itself is absolutely beautiful, and…read moreevery staff member I interacted with was warm, friendly, and welcoming. Unfortunately, the actual service I received was not what I paid for. I booked and paid $90 specifically for a curly haircut, which is a reasonable price in this area for a true curly specialist service. However, what I received felt more like a standard haircut rather than a curly cut. Before the appointment started, I thoroughly explained what I was hoping to achieve: more curl definition lasting beyond wash day, guidance on styling techniques, and a haircut tailored specifically for curly hair. Despite this, my hair was cut wet rather than dry, and there was no curl-by-curl shaping or specialized curly cutting technique used at all. As the appointment continued, several things made me question the stylist's experience level with curly hair. My stylist, Anna, seemed unprepared for the appointment. While styling, my hair was already drying and becoming frizzy in the front before products were even fully applied, and I had to point out that it needed to be re-wet. She also did not have her own diffuser and had to borrow one from coworkers. I had specifically mentioned that curl creams tend to weigh my hair down, but one was still used during styling. The diffusing process itself was also very uncomfortable, as I was instructed to hang the lower half of my body off the chair so my neck rested against the back of it. By the time my hair was almost fully dry, it honestly looked very similar to how it did when I walked in -- like I had showered, slept on wet hair, and done nothing else to style it. That was extremely disappointing after paying for a professional curly hair service. Anna could tell I was unhappy, and to her credit, she was kind and tried to fix things by washing the product out and attempting a blowout instead. Unfortunately, I still left with poorly styled hair. The face-framing pieces were going in different directions, and the overall result did not look professionally styled. I do want to emphasize that Anna herself was very sweet and pleasant throughout the appointment. However, when charging $90 for a curly haircut, a certain level of expertise and preparation is expected, and I do not feel that level of skill or knowledge was there. When booking, I specifically told the salon owner I was looking for an experienced curly hair specialist. I was told Anna was newer to the salon but had experience with curly hair and many happy clients. I truly hope this experience was just a one-off, but based on the multiple issues throughout the appointment, it did not feel like someone with advanced curly hair knowledge or technique. The owner did initially reach out afterward to try to rectify the situation, which I appreciated. However, after I responded, I unfortunately never heard back again. I had been very excited to come here because I've heard so many wonderful things about the salon, which makes this experience even more disappointing. I truly hope they take this feedback seriously because the salon itself has a great atmosphere and very kind staff.
