Since moving back West my search for a good Chinese take-away has been ongoing...I still miss Super Cook! *sob* However one of my new favourites is Crazy Wok. Now had I judged this place on the signage I probably would never have tried it...I don't know what it it but something about it didn't instill me with a feeling of 'Yeah! That looks like a FINE place to eat!' Well, I was wrong.
First visit we actually went in and ordered take-away whilst waiting. What we didn't realise that it would take quite so long...okay, it was a Saturday early evening so maybe wasn't the best time to try & get a speedy take-away. It was nice to see the open kitchen - I like being able to see people preparing/cooking the food I am about to eat. Nothing bad to hide obviously. Good. One of the reasons I think our food took so long was I noticed them cooking everything from scratch ~ something I just didn't expect in a Chinese take-away (I know they re-heat that shiz up). So again, that was promising for the food about to hit our gubs.
The dishes. SO many dishes. I struggled to pick just one as they all sounded lovely. Great to see tofu as a main dish option also, makes a change from your usual veggie option of just vegetables in various sauces. Still yet to try the tofu dishes but I'm sure they won't disappoint.
I have tried a few dishes now and I think what I tried a few days ago is now my favourite (for the time being anyway...): Grilled Chicken Chilli (or something like that; I can't remember the exact name) - sliced breast of chicken (nae slimy shiz) with green peppers, onions, garlic & chilli in a beautiful sauce. Fantastic. If I could add cashews, celery & mushrooms to this it would be PERFECT. This with some of their lovely fresh egg fried rice. Yum city.
Every time we order take-away from here now we always seem to get a free starter (I think it's if you order 2 or more main courses) and we go for the chicken wings which are also really nice (our cat also agrees!) Other options are vegetable spring rolls or spare ribs.
I can't wait to try more, especially from their Japanese dishes. They are a bit more expensive but they come as part of a set meal; with a starter, noodles/rice & main course. When I am feeling flush I will give one a go. Yum. Can't wait.
On a bit of a downer note a couple of times when we have ordered a take-away over the phone the lady on the other end has either not understood what we have been wanting to order (How many times do you need to say 'GRILLED CHICKEN CHILLI' before they understand?!) and the last time that happened the woman actually hung up on my boyfriend! So rude. Also once one of their delivery drivers told us that our flat 'did not exist' just because he could see out flat number past a hedge! Oh dear...on that occasion the guy got so frustrated (with US?!) and said 'Oh, I'll just have to TRY and find it after my next delivery!...' Err, no you won't - you'll just OPEN YOUR EYES and find our blinkin' flat ya dafty. Grrr...anyways, aside from those staffing issues CW is a cracking wee Chinese/Asian take-away. Just maybe be prepared for some 'problems' when ordering over the phone... read more
