Oh boy. This will be a long one. I attended Langley Fine…read moreArts School for six years (Grades 1-6). As such, this will not concern the high school experience, but rather, my experience going there as a young child. First off, the education itself is great. I did not have any issues with the ways core subjects were taught. The arts program is great for people that have an interest in the arts, but it mainly distracted people that had ambitions outside of the arts. There was definitely a pressure to pressure one of the fine arts, and they were not very modern about it. No modern dances, songs, or art mediums to be seen. It's a split issue, and is something that any arts school would have to deal with. Technology is almost absent apart from photography. Computers/laptops are used very rarely, and strictly for research purposes. I never learned how to type properly as a result. The school itself is pretty fine, no main issues with the building except for the portables, which have no heat or a/c. The school has an odd tendency to catch fire, but that isn't really the fault of the people who built it. Overall perfectly fine building. The teachers were a mixed bag, some great, some fine, some downright toxic. I did not have many issues with teachers myself, but many did. The general attitude of the school is accepting of lgbtq, disapproving of technology, and very focus on rewarding those that are naturally gifted. The kids and parents this school attracts are not always the most in touch. The parents gossiped about their kids' friends like a bunch of 16 year old girls. It was not very to have grown adults talk about me behind my back. However it's worth noting that my experience might be worse than average due to the fact that my grade was notoriously rowdy and snarky (if you know, you know). Last thing that I want to mention is that this school does not treat those with autism and/or ADHD very well. Fidgets are very frowned upon, support for kids that need it is practically non existent, and certain teachers made habits out of publicly shaming neurodivergent students. My brother, who is autistic, had a miserable experience there. In summary, this school is great for "Gifted" students. If you aren't gifted, you will probably have an average or negative experience.
