As a result of my work with her this past year, I can now deliver several pieces of my workshops with more confidence and authenticity. I came to Alicia after viewing student videos from her storytelling workshops. I was so inspired by her students' authenticity and courage on stage and their ability to tell very personal stories. I had a 20-minute live presentation in January that I was stressing out about, so I contacted Alicia to help me prepare. It was sooooo helpful. Choachee's feedback 1. How life was occurring for me before the session was that I was feeling as if I missed something at Burning Man and that that was somehow my fault. In spite of that I was also connected to my values in a new way and feeing good about who I am and what I stand for... also from Burning Man. A little confusing really - feeling good about who I am but disappointed that I don't create the connections in my life that I'd like. 2. How life is occurring for me now after the session is that I now see how my way of connecting can be very much one-way, that in the past few years I have learned how to contribute to and hold another in connection but that I most often if not always block their access to me. 3. What worked about the coaching was that Alica went through the steps and asked some of those questions that seem so simple yet have us answering from a different place. She asked me about what I wanted (connection) and how I would know when I had it. This created a short-circuit in my thinking and had me feel instead. I saw that I wouldn't really know when I had connection and that maybe I never really have or do know because I don't let people in. What I saw in that moment was the ways in which I can be very present with people yet where they still somehow find me inaccessible - the one-way-street. I saw that I am very vague when talking about my own feelings and that I use this to keep people at arm's length. For the first time maybe ever I actually saw and felt the dissonance between how I am with people and how I let them be with me. WOW! Alica also had me feel into what kind of question I might ask where I would actually feel vulnerable, thereby taking down the wall that keeps people out. This was a stroke of brilliance on Alica's part. We threw around some ideas and landed on one that felt so vulnerable that I actually threw it out the first time around for not being edgy enough, which of course it was and then some. "How do you feel about me?" Yikes! Getting reflection and contribution from Alica in that vulnerable moment put me into an incredible place of bliss and connection that I'm not sure I've ever been in. 4. What could have been done differently is... I have no idea. We did an incredible amount of very deep work an a very short period of time - quite possibly the most efficient hour of coaching I've ever gotten... really! 5. The learning I took away from the session was that the steps totally work and that certain kinds of questions really do make a difference in where people access their answers. I knew this on some level but had never seen it so clearly as I did last night with Alica, watching my own surprise and confusion around such a simple question. I also saw how my own coaching strength draws from this exact place where I'm comfortable - being present with someone and them feeling THAT but not so much feeling ME. Some of the material we ended up working with was way deeper and more powerful than I expected. Working with Alicia was such a nice experience. I felt very relaxed around her,as she herself is very comfortable with herself and i felt i could let my guard down around her and be myself,which i didn't see coming,since i often shut down around people in general. I scheduled a coaching session with Alicia. She called half an hour before our scheduled time and then dove right in with invasive questions. No explanation of her coaching style, introduction or framing. I didn't schedule with her again. I thought maybe she was just having an off day and I wouldn't have bothered to write this review except that now (more than 2 months later) I'm getting self-promotion emails from her unrelated to her coaching business.
