Some of the teachers are great, but the best ones tend to be poached by larger schools. The students are pretty country as would be expected in Baxter, TN. At least at the time I attended, administration didn't know its students. For example, on the first day of my senior year, the principal asked if I was a freshman. I was one of the school's top academic performers. On my first day as a freshman, the first thing my Algebra 2 teacher said to me when I walked into her classroom was, "You need to get out of Advanced Algebra next semester." Both the year I graduated and the year before, there was drama about class rank because the valedictorians were teachers' kids. Rumor went around that the valedictorians' grades were tampered with and/or that teachers gave them more attention than other students. My favorite high school memories are field trips to math contests at Tennessee Tech University, and the WCTE Academic Bowl.

The folks in Sparta are very nice and the facility is clean. Classes are somewhat limited in number. The membership is alot of seniors (not a bad thing, I am one) BUT many of the classes focused on seniors are just not that challenging and because the instructor is really good, sometimes they are WAY too crowded! BUT the nice thing is that you don't have anything to lose if you try it; you can cancel anytime although they did charge me for a series with a trainer which I never did (due to knee injury). If you need more classes, more challenge, and a pool, try Putnam County. Great folks in both places. You actually can use either YMCA if you join one (some stipulations apply).

Pros: They accept DCS Foster Vouchers, provide meals, and usually have openings more often. Cons: They didn't review any of the enrollment papers and where not feeding her bottles enough throughout the day, so she was always starving at pick up. She was constantly in dirty clothes, and they never wiped her mouth or washed her hands after feeding. They offer no real educational things and the TV was never not on. They almost never put diaper cream on despite asking multiple times, so her diaper rash always came back. I was also uncomfortable with the ratios of kids vs teachers. The director is only there a few days a week and not a floater or relief like at most facilities. They also refused to allow bridges developmental therapists onsite which all other daycares in town do. Finally when I picked my daughter up she was in a soaking wet t- Shirt and had a bump on her forhead and the teacher onsite had several versions of the story of how this happened even saying at one point she didn't hit her head at all.. and they did not put ice on it or even tell me. I picked her up and had to ask ... even though it's the law that for injuries that they fill out an injury report. When I asked for the director to call me to discuss the issue I was told she doesn't talk to parents when she's not at the center. I wish we all had the luxury to be at work 3 days a week and ignore issues... If a child is injured at your facility and your staff lies about it - it's probably a good idea to adress it immediately but I guess we all have expectations. Then after we gave our notice of withdrawal she started pretending to lay her head down anytime she was "in trouble" like they yelled at her to laydown at nap or something... I am so thankful we where able to get her in another facility.
