We had really high hopes for the school as Ms. Hansen, the school director, is clearly invested in…read morethe Montessori method and has been practicing for decades. The school is set in a lovely natural settings and the class sizes are small. Unfortunately, we experienced several major challenges this school year and have opted to transfer our daughter to a new school year because of them. Communication is poor. The Kirkland campus does not have a dedicated administrative assistant. All communication goes through the admin assistant at the Bellevue campus and then to the teachers at Kirkland. While there is a dedicated email address for each classroom, teachers do not check or reply to messages. And since there is no communication at pick up and drop off, there is no way to communicate with the teachers other than the two conferences throughout the school year. If an emergency arises, you will need to call the Bellevue campus and hope that someone answers the phone and is able to relay the message to the Kirkland campus. The school does not enforce its own sick policy. Students who showed up with snot streaming down their faces and persistent, barking coughs were allowed to remain in class. Our daughter missed more than six weeks of school because of this negligence. We had multiple conversations with the school director, and things would get better for a week and then return to their norm. In contrast, during our daughter's first year of preschool (at another school) she was sick once the entire year. We were not happy with some of the language our daughter picked up from the teachers. She began using the work "guys" frequently shortly after the beginning of the school year. She also learned a song with the lyrics "the little one stops to pray to heaven." Bullying on the playground was not address. There were two older boys in class who frequently put children 'in jail" and would not allow them to play on the playground (as reported by our child and several other parents). They also would not let the children play with certain toys on the playground. Bullying should never be tolerated and needs to be shut down asap. This year's class was incredibly young (many kids in diapers that could not talk, toddlers with snot streaming down their faces, etc.) and it made the school feel like a daycare. Our experience did not align with the price of tuition nor the experience we were sold. Bottom line, there are better Montessori options in the greater Kirkland area.

Ms. Jennifer and Ms. Meghan are awesome -- knowledgeable, fun, and very kind. They really care about the kids and have just the right balance of structure and flexibility. The kids learn a lot too. They did a whole unit on fire safety, where they learned songs to help them remember how to keep safe and they got to meet firefighters and climb on the firetruck. They do many lovely art projects as well and each day they are learning numbers and letters. The facility is great -- with different themed play areas that change every month or two, an outdoor playground and a big gym with tricycles for rainy days. Can't say enough good things about this preschool! (FYI, the preschool closed during the pandemic then reopened in 2023)

Some of my favorite things about this preschool are the active, imaginative outdoor play space, the learning curriculums which include strategies for all learning styles and a hands-on science curriculum Mrs. Darragh designed herself. I also appreciate that healthy snack options like fruit are always offered, that there is an emphasis on helping children develop the social and emotional skills that will best serve them in kindergarten, and of course I love the care and attention paid to my student's individual needs. This preschool is run as a venture of Rose Hill Church so the cost is much lower than you find at for-profit preschools. And what a value you get! I can't recommend it highly enough to someone looking for an affordable, play-based preschool for their little one.

The school's approach to child-based learning was a wonderful introduction to the Montessori method, which has set our children up incredibly well for the rest of their education and life! The school's facility is large and open, with beautiful outdoor play spaces and lots of space in each of the classrooms. The teachers are highly qualified and especially caring. Every day our children spent at the school, we know was a day well spent where they learned many subjects, experimented, socialized with peers and were nurtured in a trusting and safe environment. The school's Director, Jayme, runs an amazing establishment and Montessori program. It was very comforting for us to see Jayme and the other teachers and staff everyday. They all knew our children, our family, and made the school a welcoming and inclusive place.

The educators and administration of this school are deeply trained in the Montessori method, and our children were so very well prepared for primary school when they started. We also had a dear teacher and teacher's aides through their time at the school, who cared deeply for our kids, and we miss them! One of the amazing things about this school is the approach to learning and "work." The teachers instill a fundamental desire for students to enjoy their work and gain a deep sense of autonomy and pride that comes from putting their best foot forward. Our son thrived with the pre-math curriculum and he now routinely scores in the 90th+ percentile in math, science and reading in primary school. The learning atmosphere and guidance in personal growth at a young age was top-notch at this school. Lakeview Montessori provides a high level of early learning. We are so grateful to have attended, and that we have this wonderful school in our community.

Also impressive was the effort she puts in for all the kids there. I could see the advancement in my daughter pretty quickly, she started putting together words and soon was reading smaller books. The curriculum is not limited to reading and writing but covers diverse topics on science, math, geography, Spanish and so on and is taught in a way that's easily grasped by these young tots. Even during the pandemic, Shantha took every effort to keep the teaching moving along via online classes with a similar curriculum. I highly recommend this school.
