I brought my son with me to work as long as could, as I was waiting for Carson Lanes Day Care Center to open. Now that it open I am so glad that I waited. The room is ALWAYS clean even at the end of the day. Kassie (the director) is very accommodating even with my crazy schedule. My son has his own shelf in their kitchen so I can bring in a stock of all his foods, formula, wipes, and diapers. Not having to remember to bring some in everyday is helpful. One day I forgot to bring in a bottle for them to use, Kassie being ever helpful drove to store and bought one so I could go to work, and she didn't just buy any bottle, she bought the exact brand we use down to it being made in glass (not plastic). She's amazing.... Anyways you should note the picture of the outside play yard does not do it justice it is far nicer than it looks. Additionally, while the surface looks like asphalt, it is not, it is made of a synthetic material that is "spongy" reducing the risk for major injury if a child were to fall while playing outside. So me and my boy are happy campers!

The employees were constantly on their phones, texting or surfing the web, instead of interacting with the children, almost every time I walked in. They'd immediately put their phones down and act like they'd been caught doing something they shouldn't be doing -- and no wonder, because they're supposed to be taking care of children, not Facebooking all day!! On occasion, I would arrive to pick up or drop off my child during hours when the kids were outdoors in the play area. I walked towards the daycare from the parking lot, where the employees couldn't see me coming (they have privacy slats in the fence around the outdoor play area, so unless they were watching closely, they didn't see who was approaching) -- and I would overhear one or more of the female staff members (don't know which ones) YELLING at the toddlers. Now, I realize that kids can be rambunctious and naughty from time to time, but is yelling at them really the appropriate response? Especially if you're an employee of a daycare. Your job is to supervise, interact with and care for those children in a gentle, loving, respectful manner. I did NOT like what I overheard on these occasions. It made me feel uncomfortable, and wonder if my own child was ever scolded in that same manner. After the third time I overheard this sort of "discipline," I decided to find other childcare as soon as I could, and I took my child out of Carson Lanes Daycare. Chase was one of the more decent staff members. I never saw him playing on his phone and ignoring the kids, and my child seemed to really like him.

He has learned so much, from letters and numbers to sharing and making friends. Every day he comes home excited to tell us what he learned. It is amazing to see how much he has grown in such a short time. The teachers are simply wonderful! They are kind, patient, and really care about each child. They make learning fun with games, songs, and hands-on activities. We feel so lucky that our son is in such a warm and loving environment where he feels safe and happy every day. The Pre-K program itself is fantastic. It gives children a strong foundation for school while encouraging creativity and curiosity and religion. What I especially love is that Catholicism is part of the curriculum. Our son has been learning about faith, kindness, and respect. It means a lot to our family that his religious growth is supported along with his academic skills. I would highly recommend the Pre-K program at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic School to any parent looking for a wonderful place for their child to learn and grow! We are so grateful for this amazing experience and are excited for him to start Kindergarten at St. Teresa.

I would strongly look elsewhere for child care. I started bringing my 5 month old daughter (at the…read moretime) to Little Discoveries in 2025. At first, the environment seemed welcoming although I initially had a few concerns about the front door being unlocked. As soon as you open the front door, you are entering the infant room and there is zero safety precautions in place preventing any random person from entering. My husband and I also noticed that an employee often had her 3 or 4 year old son in the infant room often along with her husband. I was informed that the young boy was in the infant room only to breastfeed, however I never once observed that. The child was running and jumping around the small babies on the ground. Additionally, I was concerned about her husband being in the infant room as he was not a vetted employee. We continued to observe this but did not say anything until one day we picked up our daughter and realized she had only been fed one 6 ounce bottle in an eight hour day. The employee informed my husband our daughter was hungry and then she continued hanging out with her husband and son in the infant room. I immediately contacted Meaghan and informed her that I had an issue with the employee having family time while my daughter was not being fed. Meaghan denied knowing that the employee's husband was ever in the building and stated the young boy was only in the room to feed. Meaghan assured me that my daughter would be fed correctly and that she would inform the employee that her husband could no longer be in the room. Shortly after, it was very apparent that this employee was choosing not to take care of my child. She would consistently have diaper rashes that were so severe and red. The final straw for me was two days in a row, I entered the facility and observed the employees sitting on the couch on their cell phones scrolling. My child was sitting on the ground and I could smell poop as soon as I walked into the building. She was covered in poop, and it was old to the point where I had to scrape it off of her skin. She had such a severe diaper rash on the top of her butt and lower back that it actually is still scarred to this day. The rash was bleeding and shiny it looked like a burn. And to top it off, she had poop all over her clothing. I immediately removed my child from this day care and filed a report with the state. Meaghan lied to the social workers stating she was never aware an employee's husband was there, among other things. I would have respected Meaghan's honesty and admitting there were issues she ignored but that the employee was ultimately terminated. Instead, the employee was terminated and Meaghan denied any wrong doing. They do not do much with the children. The infants sit on the ground all day by themselves with little to no interaction besides the television. The employees are usually sitting on their phones on the couch. While it is my word versus the day care's, there are SEVERAL people that I know that have since had serious issues with the care of their child at this facility. I would highly HIGHLY recommend taking your child elsewhere.

This location used to be a Greater Nevada Credit Union with drive-thru, and the old sign for them is still there. This Salvation Army Corps Community Center used to be at 661 Colorado Street, but they moved a few years ago. They are still trying to sell their Colorado Street location. Please note, their Thrift Store (now called the Family Store) is located at 3320 Research Way, next to Maverik, off of East College Parkway. The Thrift Store used to be on East Winnie Lane, before they outgrew that location. Please also note that these two new addresses have not been updated on their website or Facebook page. The were not also updated on their Yelp pages, until I created them, today and last week. I guess they are not good at doing that. I hope Yelp believes me and approves this new page. The entry for the food pantry and other family services is off S. Harbin Avenue. For youth services only, you have to use the doors in front, on East 2nd Street. There is also a church, which has service on Sundays at 10:45 AM. The woman who runs the food pantry is on leave, so a cleaner is filling in for her the next month or so. so things are a little disorganized, as the fill in does not want to disturb the folders on the desk of the regular employees. So the forms I gave her the week before can no longer be found, and I had to complete a new form. Their food pantry is self-service and small, mostly non-perishable goods, since they are stored on shelves in an office. I did grab a bunch of green bananas though. They also have items like conditioner, medicine, and hand sanitizer. So you fill up one bag with whatever you need, subject to the limits they have written on each shelf. They also have a regular refrigerator for some items like milk, yogurt, and limited fresh vegetables. Few people go there, at least there has never been a line when I went. I am not sure why. Someone told me this is Carson City, so there is rarely much of a line, like in my former home of the San Francisco Bay Area. The rules listed are you can go once a week, and they limit you to one bag of items of your choosing, But the woman there said those rules are not enforced. Nevertheless, please take only what you need. They do have fresh meats and vegetables on Wednesday from 1-2:30 PM, but I have not gone yet. The employee said there are all sort of trucks in the parking lot that line up to give away fresh food that day. The hours for the regular food pantry are Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 AM to 12 noon, and 1 PM to 2:30 PM. Services require a card, which they issue to you after you provide ID, proof of residence, and proof of income, and fill out a short application. Parking was easy, as they have a big lot.

Our son was in Harmony's full-time care for several months. During that time, there were a few incidents that raised concerns, which we initially attributed to the normal learning curve of having our baby in childcare for the first time. However, one incident ultimately made it clear that we could no longer trust this facility with our child's care, and we withdrew him immediately. The incident raised serious concerns for us around judgment and communication. After withdrawing our son, Harmony refused to refund our deposit or any portion of the remaining tuition for the month. We took the matter to small claims court, where we won our case. This judgment was issued in October 2025, and as of today, she has still not paid the court-ordered amount. I debated whether to share our experience publicly, but I'm sharing this solely to document our experience and help other families make an informed decision. While Harmony presents herself in a certain way professionally, our personal experience was very, very different. She made comments to us that were completely inappropriate and unprofessional. I know how difficult it is to find childcare in this area, but based on our experience, I strongly encourage families to carefully consider other options before choosing Daisy Trails Forest Preschool.
