Look at your statements and I would bet that your monthly fees outweigh any gains. I notice that his reviews posted on his site are all positive, but Ameriprise in general has bad reviews and he follows the trend. Take a look at those and you will see the heart of the company. Ameriprise Advisors do not advise about anything, so that they can make you responsible for their omissions. Be sure to compare the high percentage of their management fee to others, and ask about the surrender ("you can't leave") charges which are on a number of accounts and not discussed or pointed out by the advisors. Just be careful.

I especially like that you can withdraw cash from any ATM worldwide and they refund all associated fees. They also refund fees involved in transferring accounts to their bank. We tried the advisory service for a while, but the advice seemed generic so we switched out of that. It's more for recommending what to buy and sell back on your risk tolerance after filling out a long intake form. You can find similar recommendations by searching for Schwab recommended stocks or mutual funds. They do also have a special Schwab Amex platinum card that you get $200 cash back toward the annual fee depending on account balances. I highly recommend banking with Schwab, especially if you have brokerage and IRA accounts.
