I should have told him I had not had any other estimates. Unfortunately, I divulged the information he requested and he came up with a figure which was $25 lower than a previous estimate. In the estimate Doug provided he included "clean, prep, caulk, & 2 finish coats to match". He also indicated that he would "furnish material and labor in accordance with above specifications". At the end of the project the painting looked good. He asked for an additional $65 because he had underestimated the amount of paint he would need. Foolishly, I gave him $40 even though the contract stated that he would furnish material. After Doug left I moved furniture back on to the patio under the pergola and noticed there were some major areas that he did not patch. I know he saw these areas because he painted right over them. I have contacted him to correct the problem and have not received a response. The moral of this story is: Don't always go with the lowest estimate.

I was so impressed by the Yelp reviews and by the phone call that I immediately scheduled an appointment with him. After I finished setting up the service appointment we discussed the time, location, and other details. I immediately placed an order from my local hardware store and to have all the items (appliances) shipped to my home. The day before the scheduled appointment the repairman messaged me that he made a mistake and that he was supposed to schedule my appointment for the following day. He also mentioned that I did not send him a deposit to lock in my appointment as if I lost the appointment due to not paying him a deposit. I was confused! We never discussed a deposit or a deposit amount when I spoke with the handyman over the phone. I did not see the other Yelpers reference in their post anything about Zelle quick paying their repairman for a deposit.
