Friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating. A wonderful experience when dealing with a small emergency with our dog.

I scheduled an appt for my dog, Sofia, on a Wednesday morning. The night before the appointment, my…read moredog had blood in her stool and was obviously discomforted. I called the vet at 10:00pm and she suggested giving her Pepto-Bismol for the bloody stool. I sat up and watched Sofia until 3:00am when I called the vet back to let her know Sofia was getting worse and in a lot of pain and could not wait for the 9am appointment. The Doc said to meet her at the clinic. Marcelino already opened the clinic and Dr. Wagner-Lockard arrived just shortly after. She checked out Sofia, ran blood test, exam etc., and told us she had pancreatitis. She went over the blood test results that showed pancreatitis numbers that measured the levels of two digestive enzymes: lipase and amylase. Elevated levels of these enzymes, particularly lipase levels that are three times the normal range, can indicate pancreatitis or pancreatic damage. She was extremely calm while talking to me while I was distraught and struggling to follow everything she said and hoping Sofia did not have pancreatic damage. The doc said Sofia earned an overnight stay, hooked her up with IV for antibiotics, fluids, etc. She allowed us to come back before closing that day and visit Sofia. Sofia spent the night on Wednesday and Thursday. We had visitation time before closing on Thursday and Dr. Wagner-Lockard told us she is trending in the right direction but would not have the clear picture until Friday. I brought her home that Friday and it took about two weeks to heal. Sofia is doing very well and has recovered completely but on a special diet for life. Dr.Wagner-Lockard is an excellent vet. If your vet is willing to come in at 3:00am, you got a great vet and if she is still working at 4pm that day, (13 hours), you got a great vet. If your vet takes the time to walk you through every detail of pancreatitis, including causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment and risk factors, and makes sure you understand what she is saying, you got a great vet! A BIG SHOUT OUT TO the staff: Marcelino, Kasey, Ashly, Kaden, Kristen, THANK YOU All for saving Sofia's life, you are the BEST! pom n.

This practice insisted I bring my dog in even thought they were closing. They stayed open and saved my dogs life. They were so caring and concerned for my dogs life. It was truly the best vet experience I have ever encountered. Everyone from the doctors, techs and receptionist were at the top of their game and I can not thank them enough. From our experiences with Doctor Steven R. Smolen at the Animal Hospital of Telluride, we would say that he suffers from moral depravity. We have taken all three of our dogs to his clinic over time but recently our little 15 year old 16 pound guy went into convulsions and was yelping uncontrollably at the top of his capacity. I instantly called the The Animal Hospital of Telluride and then called the emergency number. It was just after 5pm on a Wednesday. Doctor Smolen answered the phone and I ended up FaceTiming with him so he could see the dire straits our little guy was in. He saw that Beau was thrashing so wildly and was hard to hold. Like a 16 pound fish out of water. Yelping so loud that I had to go to another part of the house so Dr. Smolen and I could hear each other. He kept repeating, "You have to take him to the emergency hospital in Grand Junction. I can't help you now." He told us four times to take him to Grand Junction. We are two and a half hours away from Grand Junction! Finally, in anger, I yelled at him and said it was a waste of time to talk to him and hung up. I called a vet in Montrose at 5:29pm (time stamp on the phone) and got the same response (Also a clinic where we have taken our three guys many times). At last, I got help from a vet that we had never been to and we were able to drug Beau and take him to a Grand Junction emergency hospital. While we were on the highway, Smolen sent a text: "I was quite incensed that you told me it was a waste of time talking to me..." He did this minutes after seeing how agonized Beau was and how traumatized we were and yet he could not help himself. Moral depravity. You can tell everything you need to know about a person by the way he or she treats animals and children. Not just their own If they have any but all animals and children. And by the way, Smolen's website says: "Emergencies and accidents seem to happen at the worst possible times... Our expert 24-hour care services will be there for you when you need us. Any time your pet has an emergency or a health problem, rest assured that quality veterinary help is nearby." In our experience just after 5pm on a Wednesday, this website is a lie. Also, I have saved the recordings of our experience with Sr. Smolen, so I have proof.
