A Matter of Taste Restaurant - Fried chicken wings, mashed potatoes with gravy and macaroni and cheese

    A Matter of Taste Restaurant

A Matter of Taste -- Peachtree Mall Columbus, Georgia…read more2 out of 5 stars Price paid $17.00 Verdict Needs work Runway left ~30 days Newly opened establishments often get the benefit of the doubt -- a few rough edges are expected, and the grace period is real. But some shortcomings are simply too fundamental to overlook. My recent visit to A Matter of Taste in the Peachtree Mall food court left me with more questions than satisfaction. I'll give credit where it's due: the staff was genuinely pleasant. When I asked for a recommendation, they pointed me toward the chicken without hesitation -- a confident suggestion that boded well. I ordered four chicken wings alongside mashed potatoes with gravy and macaroni and cheese. A classic Southern comfort plate. My expectations, modest as they were for a food court, felt reasonable. The food arrived fresh -- cooked to order, which matters. But from the very first bite, something was glaringly absent: seasoning. Not a pinch of salt. Not a whisper of pepper. The chicken wings were so devoid of flavor that hot sauce became less of a condiment and more of a lifeline. To their credit, the staff did provide it -- and I appreciated that. I even took the plate home, determined to give it a fair shot. But even at home, with every trick at my disposal, the food simply couldn't be rescued. The mashed potatoes tasted of nothing but starch. The macaroni and cheese -- a dish that practically seasons itself -- somehow managed to fall flat. No amount of doctoring could compensate for what was missing from the start. Seventeen dollars later, the plate found its way to the trash. I sincerely hope others have a better experience than I did. A Matter of Taste has only been open about two months, and every new restaurant deserves a fighting chance. The staff's warmth and the freshness of the food are genuine bright spots -- but if the kitchen doesn't find its seasoning soon, I'd give this place roughly thirty more days before the food court moves on without them. Potential without flavor is just a missed opportunity. "Fresh out of the fryer, friendly staff, hot sauce on deck -- but seasoning has to start in the kitchen, not at the table." No seasoning Poor value Friendly staff Food cooked fresh Hot sauce provided
