Don't let the fact that it's a municipal course slow you down. This is the nicest muni I've ever played. It's a Donald Ross design so it's a classic! Richard who runs the inProShop is great and has an answer for every one of your questions. They have a driving range, chipping area & separate putting green. All are in great condition. You will love the wide open fairways! The tee boxes are in great condition & large. They have tee positions that will suit every level of play. Most of the greens were in really good shape. There were maybe three or four that had bare spots but not unusual given the weather. They have GPS on the carts. They had rain the night before so many of the holes were 90 degree or 'cart path only' You will get a beep top and a nasty gram if you try to defeat the guidelines. As a Senior on a Monday, I got a great rate of $48 bucks for 18 holes with cart. It's a course I highly recommend!

(It was a monday afternoon and completely open playing) So we had her leave and thought it was going to be the end of our trouble. Until we were harrassed again for "playing extra holes" while looking for a club my friend left behind. Considering how bad of shape the course is in you would think the ranger would be more concerned with the course than harrasing paying customers. Never again.

This course was beautiful and play was very reasonable priced given the quality of the course. The carts were quiet and comfortable. The holes were well-labeled and the course was easy to follow. The staff was welcoming and kindly directed us to our first hole and cart. I really enjoyed this experience and appreciate Oak Valley for making my first golfing experience really great!

Still the best golf value in the Triad, especially if you play a twilight rate. The assertion from a couple of other reviewers that the course owners (the city?) are "money hungry" is one I do not understand... if they were money hungry, surely it would be more expensive than the current very reasonable rate. I do get some of the pace of play complaints, but welcome to muni-golf honestly. Beginners come to courses like this to get better. This is the kind of place where you can skip a hole to get ahead of a slow group and be fine. For a more complete review of the course, see my original review, just affirming here that I still enjoy it, the conditions (even in the current drought environment) are still great (especially for the money), and they have brand spanking new golf carts to boot. I've accompanied a member here twice now and wish we had something similar to this closer to Charlotte. First things first: For all intents and purposes, this is a private club. You either need to be a member or be with a member at all times while you're here. They recently installed a fence at the entrance that you have to either swipe a pass or enter a code to for entry, but on the weekends it's typically open, with the "Members Only" signs posted beside the gate. As far as the range, it's the best-case scenario. They have a 200 Yard rifle range and 21 pistol bays (split between large and small pistol, with some bays outfitted with steel plates and others where you mount paper targets). There is no Range Safety Officer present, hence why prior approval is not only required, it's a necessity. You (or the member that brought you) are responsible for your safety and treating your guns safely. That being said, for those comfortable and experienced with guns and gun safety, shooting outdoors without a third party looking over your shoulder is much more relaxing. New membership is limited, and from their website it looks like they're at full capacity, as the number of new members is based on current members that fail to renew. Keep this in mind that you'll be on a wait list if you do want to apply for membership. While I can't get up here all the time due to the distance (and the fact that I have to rely on a friend whose dad is a member to gain entry), I always enjoy my time up here.

It's a private club (my father has been a member for the better part of ten years) so the first thing you notice is the gate out front of the entrance. You need a badge to get in most days so it keeps random folks from just walking in and horsing around a gun range. Next thing up the drive is the fishing pond. Really lake would be a better descriptor, there's tons of shoreline to stand on and cast off. Follow the road a little further and to your left is the archery range and one set of the pistol ranges. I haven't personally used the archery range but the pistol stalls are quite nice. Six for paper targets only and two on the end with steel target plates, all with a nice wooden benches/tables. Opposite side of the road are the skeet shooting stations. Wednesday seems to be the popular day to go shoot clay pigeons. Continuing down the road the clubhouse is on the right, rifle range on the left. Rifle range consists of maybe a dozen different bays varying at ranges of 50, 100, and 200 yards. Beyond that and all the way down the left side of the road are more than a dozen additional pistol ranges. The place always seems well maintained and I've never had a problem with the staff or other members. Look them up if your trying to find a great place for some outdoorsy fun.
