The staff here do an amazing job and are warm, friendly and well informed. The higher up the ladder you go the more ignorance you encounter but that seems to always be the way. Waiting times are short, the quality of care is great and they are moving towards a more holistic approach to treatment these days. There are no words of praise high enough for the members of the team at Cresswell Maternity department. The wards are immaculate and their assistance invaluable. Extra parking is being added to ease the current parking problems. In the meantime Out Patients can use the dental car park - just collect a token from the desk as you'll need one to exit.

First impressions is that this is a rather new looking building and seems to be of a good standard for an NHS hospital. It does smell a bit of stale cabbage but that seems to be par for the course in these places. It was relatively clean and the seating areas were quite comfortable. Plus, I always find the staff on the entrance desk very helpful. However, I can't give a true review unless I have a quick moan about my last experience there. I had an appointment at 2:50pm for a routine eye examination. I arrived at outpatients at 2:40pm and was called within 15 minutes to have eye drops put in to dilate my eyes for the doc. I was impressed with the efficiency until I then had to wait a further 2 hours to be seen! I was left waiting so ling that the eye drops had worn off and I had to have more put in and get sent out to wait again. I arrived at 2:40 and did not get out until about 5:30pm! The doctor was very apologetic but the reception staff gave no indication of the wait ahead and offered no apology or explanation. Plus there were a lot of elderly people who were also waiting hours. This has seriously tainted my view of the hospital. So if you are going for an outpatients appointment my advice is take a book (and a picnic!).

My appointment was with the haematology department which is downstairs in the main building. I found the signage to be adequate and was able to locate the department without getting lost. I had quite a journey to get to the hospital (2 hours) and arrived half an hour early. Despite this I was seen promptly and was back in my car before I should have even been there. The doctor I dealt with was friendly and explained everything to me and listened attentively to my concerns, which is more than could be said for my GP! I had to return the next day and again found the experience to be a stress free one. Parking is pay and display but it's fairly reasonably priced and there are plenty of parking spaces.

The rooms were really clean and it even had an en-suite which was great that I didn't have to share a bathroom. I felt like I was in safe hands which was reassuring.

I would particularly like to thank Mr Arstrong and his team who carried out the operation, Sister Julie, Andrea and all the staff on K ward who made me very comfortable and looked after my every need. I know that many hospitals get bad press and this one probably has people who would like to dis it but I personally have never had a bad time while I have been there ither as a visitor or patient.

My gran was in ward 2b of Crosshouse hospital with a broken hip. Although the hip was healing fine gran had other complications which they seemed ill-equipped to deal with. We found the staff to be uncaring, unprofessional, uninterested and downright unsympathetic to my grans needs. If you asked for help with something they were too busy, but they seemed to have time to congregate and talk about what they were doing at the weekend. My gran was very poorly and did not receive the care she deserved, she has since sadly died. I had a kind of rosy picture of what nursing was like but the nurses in that ward seemed just to be pen pushers, too busy with paperwork and not enough time looking after the sick. I found the staff very obnoxious, the nurses and the auxiliaries, with one nurse in particular called Kathryn who seemed full of her own importance and would give incorrect information on the phone saying things like my gran had a good night, is fine this morning etc. but when my mum went in she found that gran had had the opposite kind of night. It is just so unacceptable that relatives are told this rubbish and totally unacceptable to treat patients in this way. I am so sad at my gran's treatment in ward 2b. it has been a terrible time for our family that my grans last days were so awful for her.

Ayr Hospital A& E can be very busy and sometimes the staff can be a little 'occupied'. Doctors are very good. Paramedics are exceptional. Very over run now in wards with beds being scarce. There is a cafe on entrance and shop which are run by the WRVS and are value for money but if you are staying in on the first floor for staff and patients that is better for food value and taste, where hot meals are served.

We arrived at the accident and emercency department during the night with my father and i was impressed by how quickly we were seen and how upbeat the staff were. The service he received that night was outstanding and has been everytime i have been there. Also due to his illness he was kept on a ward for a few days and the care he received there was also outstanding. Also at the hospital they have a small shop and snack bar which is completly run by volunteers. The prices are great especially for the snack bar and everyone is so nice and helpful and they are doing it without getting paid
