I was rushed into cross house hospital, I was under miss Yeap and her teams care. I can't thank her enough, her skills and knowledge where out of this world. She made me feel much better in a traumatic situation. She was very to the point and told me exactly everything that was going to happen next and took her time to explain it all. I have posted this same review on another review site where they took out the name of the nurse I was trying to name and shame. My gran was in ward 2b of Crosshouse hospital with a broken hip. Although the hip was healing fine gran had other complications which they seemed ill-equipped to deal with. We found the staff to be uncaring, unprofessional, uninterested and downright unsympathetic to my grans needs. If you asked for help with something they were too busy, but they seemed to have time to congregate and talk about what they were doing at the weekend. My gran was very poorly and did not receive the care she deserved, she has since sadly died. I had a kind of rosy picture of what nursing was like but the nurses in that ward seemed just to be pen pushers, too busy with paperwork and not enough time looking after the sick. I found the staff very obnoxious, the nurses and the auxiliaries, with one nurse in particular called Kathryn who seemed full of her own importance and would give incorrect information on the phone saying things like my gran had a good night, is fine this morning etc. but when my mum went in she found that gran had had the opposite kind of night. It is just so unacceptable that relatives are told this rubbish and totally unacceptable to treat patients in this way. I am so sad at my gran's treatment in ward 2b. it has been a terrible time for our family that my grans last days were so awful for her. read more

Always good in an emergency. (sorry bad joke). I've been in here when I had my baby, an emergency operation and a couple of other illnesses, and the staff on the whole have been great, there is the odd nurse having a bad day but don't we all get like that. The maternity staff are wonderful, I couldn't fault one of them. Go there to have your baby!!! Oh the parking is horrendous at visiting times, get there early. read more

Crosshouse hospital now hosts the new Ayrshire Maternity Unit - a fantastic complex which provides both midwife and consultant led births. I had my son here last year and was incredibly impressed with both the facilities and the lovely staff. Unlike the southern general where I had my first child which felt like being on a baby conveyer belt, my whole birth experience at AMU was wonderful. I have only experienced the rest of the hospital as a visitor, and found all the staff to be friendly. There is a lovely little coffee shop manned by volunteers read more

Definatly the worst place to try and get parked - especially at visiting times. On the positive AMU is the recent addition to the hospital - which is a huge improvement to the old alternative Irvine Central. The AMU is clean, kinda homely, and the midwives i encountered during my stay were absolutely brilliant. read more

Vast hospital, you can get lost just trying to get the wards. The hospital is not as clean as it could be and the wards are often very dark. I have expierenced this hospital as a patient and visitor and neither expierence was very good, not that anyone want to be in hospital but some are better than others and many are better than this. read more

Local hospital for the whole of Ayrshire. Now has the Ayrshire maternity unit to the side of it. It is well sign posted with helpful and friendly staff. It has a shop which is manned by volunteers and a coffe shop with setting which is reasonably priced. Free parking although it can be difficult to get a space dueing visiting hours read more

I hear nothing but complaints about this hospital I have experienced not the best treatment in my eyes at times myself but I really got my eyes open a few nights ago I cannot compliment the medical staff & there support enough which was priceless & I highly rate them & there work. Especially the A&E department your kindness compassion & care to what I witnessed was excellent it was not just a job to you it was more. Your care was genuine I'm forever grateful for that as a very painful day was made a little easier for all you did for my relative. You work hard your short staffed & you have patients to see but you still gave us some of your precious time. From receptionists to nurses to doctors & others behind the scene you have a hard job but to those who go the extra mile & gave that extra care thank you. The staff in the hospital may not all be so passionate or caring but these are the stories we hear the bad & for once I think the good ones should be told as these people are often missed & should be appreciated. A huge thank you to all & especially to an a&e nurse called David & I'm sorry I can't remember the doctor's name but I hope she knows who she is. read more

They say that every place has it's weakest link, a few years ago I learned that was ward 3E, I've been in this hospital half a dozen times, that last couple of time on ward 2A. Having a prolapsed disc the first time, then when the disc moved a couple of days ago after a brief stop in A&E I was forwarded to 2A. after enough morphine to drop a horse, my nurse Karen appeared to ensure that I had everything I needed and insisted that if I needed ANYTHING big or small I should use my buzzer and the nurses would come running....and they did. From start to finish Karen and the nurses was amazing, at times I had to ask myself was I in a hospital or a five star hotel, being claustrophobic, the MRI was going to be horrendous, well not with the MRI staff it wasn't. they made it their mission to relax me and make the experience easier. after two days in the hospital it was time to leave, sadly my meds weren't ready by the time I was leaving. In stepped Steven (ward deputy charge nurse) and offered to keep my needed meds on the ward until someone could pick them up. Okay so maybe I wasn't the easiest of patients but that made their care even more special. if you're going to take ill, then try and get ward 2a, you wont be disappointed. read more

Having just returned from Crosshouse after a knee cap replacement or secondary refurbishing (R) TKA i have to say that I was delighted by the staff in ward 2c and the food was excellent It was outstanding in all areas and the consultant Ms Mcmillan was great in every respect. I have previously stayed in private hospitals but this exceeded all expectations .Well done Crosshouse! read more

My place of work and a great asset to the community.Over 3000 people are employed at the hospital.The majority of employees are part time, however given the constant need for flexibility in working conditions nowadays it is probably the best way to ensure all positions for shift work are covered.At capacity the hospital can accomodate around 650 patients in approximately 30 wards.The job tasks required ,for a position like mine,portering,are diverse.The majority of the public ,with all respect ,would probably not fully appreciate what it entails to fulfill portering duties as it can involve less than pleasant tasks such as aiding police and undertakers with DOAs(dead on arrivals) which can come in any condition.The porters are regarded by the most other staff in the hospital as the backbone of the hospital.This could be said about other departments but basically it is true to say that without porters the hospital would come to a grinding halt.A fantastic addition to the hospital site is the new Ayrshire Maternity Unit(AMU).This £18M complex is state of the art with just about everything you could need in a maternity unit.The midwives who work in all the respective sections are first class,with some of them real lookers too.The only real drawback with the complex is quite an important one though and that is no safe to drink running water due to incorrect plumbing installed at construction.The solution to date has been to install water bottles which is not ideal but allows the unit to function. read more

i had my daughter at AMU on oct 2006 and was the worst experience every!!! the hospital which was lovely and not long openedcouldnt fault that, food was disgusting and staff werent very polite and helpful, after having a emerg section it was hard enough , anytime i asked for help it always seemed a bother and then my daughter was taken to special care where the staff were just brillant and nothing was a bother, they were also very understanding at this worrying time, as for hospital docs thats another matter which i wont rant on about, will just say HOPELESS, after a week in special care we got home, best day of my life, read more

just been in a&e with an acute dystonic episode which I was informed they deal with on a regular basis, The patients are usually under the influence I am told and they simply administer the antidote for the said drug and the problem is solved ...for them...however I am not a drug user so treatment for me was very complicated...GP had to be phoned to be confirmed..it was then suggested I was stressed so a wee rest and a chat about my alleged stress/anxiety...no pain management of any kind offered repeatedly asked to sit up straight move across the bed etc repeatedly had to tell the doctor I have no muscle control during a spasm...I cant breathe or speak during the spasm....asked for discharge papers so that I could come back home and go to my own hospital and I would get treatment there...essentially a job that in my area would take 20 mins from entry/treatment/exit....took four hours. An explanation of we dont know you ...you are not in our system...it will be easier on you next time you need treatment etc etc....my response I would have to be unconscious before I trusted my health to that group of clowns again with the exception of one nurse who was kind encouraging and helpful when my throat started to close over. Dystonia is a chronic neurological condition which interferes with the comunication between the brain and the muscle this means the muscles move 24 hours a day 24 hours a day and today my left leg was so strongly spasmed it felt like my leg was going to be dislocated from my body I cried buckets with the pain,,,,horrendous...home now and really quite traumatised by the whole thing although I will say one thing a friend/colleague drove me there and there was an ambulance group of staff who could not have been any nicer helpful and wonderful as they helped me to get out the car and into the hospital read more

ward 1c is very clean and the staff were brilliant during my time there with my child.
