Some Pilgrims go from Ferrol (start) to Puentedeume as their longer Day 1. However, our Day 1 stopped at Neda, making our first couple outings a little easier. The Hotel Montebreamo is right on the Camino and high up on the hill going out of town. That puts that climb within Day 2, making the beginning of Day 3 (to Betanzos) a little bit easier. Gayle and I are also not Albergue Pilgrims, which means we're staying at Hotels (with luggage service in-between), no hostels with all our belongings on our back. The Hotel Montebreamo was a very nice stay and in a very gorgeous building inside and out. It's run by a family, in which the Mother is in charge and who was very welcoming to us. We couldn't translate everything she was saying, her love of this place made figuring things out fairly easy. Our very comfortable room was on the ground floor and with a window directly outside to the Camino. The main floor had plenty of space for hanging out and relaxing, but a kitchen area with a pantry for snacks anytime. The subsequent breakfast room set up and meal was also very enjoyable. The only real downside here is that once you're checked in and let's say you want to go into down from dinner, it's a significant walk down, and then back up. Yet, that's minor, and Gayle and I would gladly stay here again as Pilgrims or Tourists.

We were on a 12 day trip through Spain and Portugal. All hotels were one night stays. We checked in…read morearound 3:00pm and checked out around 11:00am. Booking was made over Booking.com. Check in and check out was very easy with people that spoke enough english to make everything easy. The room was immaculately clean and very comfortable. The room looked to be freshly redone. Everything looked new and fresh. Wifi worked well. This is a place I would not hesitate to stay again or recommend to others.

During our 6-day pilgrimage on the Camino Ingles, the end of Day 4 (and into the morning of Day 5)…read morewas our favorite and the most memorable. Our longest Day 4 Camino started in Betanzos, continued for about 28 km (17.5 miles), and included lots of rain and elevation. We arrived exhausted and a bit cranky at Casa Avelina - Bar Estanco (As Travesas), where we were treated like Royalty. We then took a cab to Casa Rural Costa da Egua, and were returned to the same place the next morning by the same driver. This rural hotel is located on the banks of the Abelleira River, and was historically known as Francisco Miller's House" where grain was ground in large electric mills powered by the electricity generated in the river itself. The "House" has 6 bedrooms with bathroom (5 with double bed, 1 with single beds), a nice ground floor living room, a dining room area, and plenty of open space and local river-related hiking. The Case Rural Costa da Egua was our best Hotel stay during our Camino. Gayle and I had a very comfortable room upstairs and enjoyed using the lounge/living room below. We met the Couple/Family running the place, and enjoyed playing with their dog Herbie. We enjoyed a very tasty evening dinner and had a pleasant time talking to the Wife, each in our broken native languages. She pointed out how nice it was to have tourists back after 2 years of COVID, and actually hear English again. Breakfast was excellent as well, and as the cab pulled away that morning, we both mentioned how well we were treated and that we hoped somehow that we would cross paths again with this place and Casa Avelina.

Hesperia Finisterre is an excellent hotel in many ways. The customer service was very good at…read morereception. We had a problem with lights and someone addressed our situation immediately (although I did make my requests in Spanish). The room we had was extremely spacious and it was very relaxing to have the cries of seagulls lull me to sleep. The beds were also very comfortable. Breakfast at the hotel was delicious and one of the best spreads that I have experienced while traveling. The dining room also gives a lovely view of the port. There is a great fitness area for hotel patrons as well, which includes weights, treadmills, elliptical, etc. The location is great, as it is walking distance to a lot of attractions, shops, and restaurants. You will need a taxi to get to the Renfe station, however. The only downside is the connection speed of the wireless Internet. It was extremely slow and made it impossible to accomplish any work. A cute plus: there are chuches (gummy candy) and champagne in the lobby!

I have to admit that I did not experience any of the shortcomings that some of the other reviewers…read moreexperienced. Instead, I experienced a very friendly staff in nice eclectic hotel setting. I believe the hotel is located in a retrofitted old building that was turned into a hotel. Why? Well I was on the 6th floor and as soon as I entered my room I had to climb a metal spiral staircase that went into my room? How did I get my heavy suitcase up that winding staircase? Very slowly!?! But, hey, I understand in Europe they are not as quick as we are to demolish beautiful old buildings. Which I believe is great because at the same time you are helping to preserve a piece of history. The staff was very hospitable and informative. I took the staff up on some of their restaurant recommendations and I was just blown away at how great of a food location that Coruna is. Most notably, steak from the blonde Gallego bulls which is even better than wagu beef from Japan. Yes, its true, better than wagu beef! Moreover, the seafood here is simply outstanding and better yet the prices were on the cheap side for what I received!! Fantastic eating out value! Room service was excellent. The food delivered to my room was actually very good. Also, my booking included free breakfast which I also loved. Moreover, Coruna served as a jump off point to visit Santiago De Compostela which was only a 40 minute train ride away. Unfortunately, I did not have enough time to walk like all of the other thousands of pilgrims visiting. Back to my hotel stay, I highly recommend this place if you find yourself on your way this corner of Espana.

This Melia falls well below its own aspirations. They explained that they turn off the hotel's AC…read morechiller at 1am and the room gets fairly muggy. The WiFi and hot water are chronically unreliable. The walls are thin and heavy wood doors plus faux wood floors means that any loud footstep will wake you up. We eventually resorted to earplugs although I am a very sound sleeper generally. The Laundry and Parking are pricey and they are not helpful in finding you any alternatives to their prices. Luckily I found a nearby dry cleaners that saved me about $60 USD over the hotel. Lastly, the bathroom had very shoddy work, broken tiles, and a broken shower head meant to adjust, but it kept sliding down. There are better alternatives for the money.

A…read morenumber of Pilgrims keep on walking to Pontedeume for a longer first day, but we were on a journey, not a race. Plus, our fantastic lunch at the nearby 7 Santiños was worth the shorter day's journey. Neda itself is on the river and has some pretty spots. There's a nearby hostel for those who love their backpacks over a suitcase, and it's a pleasant stroll if you walk towards the church into Narón. That included spending a good hour in an outdoor square, drinking beer, and watching young families and others enjoy an early weekend evening. We found Pension Maragoto to be a long schlep up the stairs, a little small, a tiny challenging shower, and with a fair amount of street noise of one chose to open up the window. Yet, it was comfortable enough, with a decent breakfast, and friendly inn keepers. We were thankful to have reserved this place in advance, as there's not a lot of non-hostel rooms available, and we met a number of "just-in-time" Pilgrims that were struggling to find accommodation.

The room was clean and had just what I needed to rest. I slept with the window open both nights to the wonderful sounds of the ocean. The Hotel Riazor is a very good hotel, made fantastic by it's location across the street from the…read morespectacular Riazor Beach in A Coruña. We didn't have an ocean facing room, but if you can get one, try. Even so, I enjoyed our stay there. The room was compact and comfortable and the staff were helpful and courteous. I was in A Coruña to work, so basically I needed the hotel to disappear into a support role and that is what it did. Everything, including the WiFI worked and was dependable. It's not the swankiest or most up to date hotel in the world, but I would welcome another opportunity to stay there.
