We arrived 45 minutes early so that we could be outfitted with our waterproof gear, and once everyone was suited up, we were taken down to the embarkment via bus. Our captain was Yvon and he was great - he took a few minutes to explain the basic rules of "etiquette" and then took us to to look for whales. Boy, were we in for a treat! We were lucky enough to see plenty of whales, including moms with their calves, and as (more) luck would have it, they were all feeling quite playful because not only did we see whales breach and flip, but we also saw the inside of one's mouth (which we're told is a rarity!). Obviously, the captain has no control over whether or not you see whales. so what you'll see will vary. We greatly enjoyed our experience and I would recommend this company. My only other comment would be to make sure that everyone gets to see the whales, i.e. move the boat so that that all sides can view them and take photos. Price point: I think we paid around $65 per person but the price will vary by season.

Our AML ship was a three decker design that made the 3.5 hour round trip enjoyable (although the constant loud rumble of the diesel-powered engine can drive one crazy). Maximum ship capacity is 250 persons. We're on the lookout for whales; Blue, Fin, Minke, and/or Beluga! Thick fog blanketed the trip out to the St. Lawrence River feeding area where salt and fresh water converge. TIP: BYOF (bring your own food) or prepare to held for a Pirates ransom! Soupe asiatique/Asian Soup aka instant noodles w/boiling water is $4.00 or get the deal of the day which is a Hot Dog Garni for $3.50. This is my third time on this ship and I still haven't seen Free Willy!

We just got off a great bus tour and we were waiting for our boat to arrive. The good: Very informative. Saw a seal in the water. The view is simply stunning. Little snack bar on boat. Was not that full when we went in, which made it easier for us to access. Very cool but not cold. The bad: NOT wheelchair accessible (there is a few steps to get on the boat). After a while, can be a little boring to look at similar landscape for over an hour. French only. Bathroom had NO lights in it, and finding the flush handle was quite a challenge. Although terrific, l was a little disappointed about the tour, especially after we had such a wonderful bus tour. But it was still entertaining. Just be sure you go to the bathroom BEFORE going on the boat.

The place: The floove, obviously! (où bien, sur le fleuve). The goods: This was my second time whale watching and I decided to try T-A. These guys have a covered zodiac with windows that open on both sides of the boat. There are 12 seats in total and in comparison with the other zodiac I was on, they're really comfortable! The zodiac is NOT heated so plan to dress warmly or you will freeze your arse off. For reference, I went on Thanksgiving weekend and wore: lined pants, hiking boots, breathable T-shirt, a light layer, a fleece, a North Face light puffer + a hat and gloves. Note: I don't suggest wearing a wide-legged pant because hey, guess what? That cold floovian air gets right up there! To conclude, listen to your fellow reviewers - dress warmly no matter the season and don't wear flip flops! In terms of whale watching, it was great. Our captain was the famous Simon, who is super friendly and very enthusiastic! In addition to having an apparent love for his job, he's got great taste in music and treated us to a few songs, notably Mrs. Robinson (when I say treat, I mean he bellowed them out from the top of his perch). Obviously, no one can guarantee whale sightings but on the day we went out, we certainly got our money's worth! Loads of seals, belugas, porpoises AND mama whales with their calves. If what Simon said was true, then we got to see the well-known Gaspar, her calf and their escort. Baby was feeling quite frolicky too! It truly was a magical morning! As a photographer, I appreciated that Simon gave us plenty of time to take photos and I think that he may have gone out of his way to chase whales for us - there were four of us with long lenses and he absolutely catered to our "needs." Price point: I think it was $85 + taxes and well worth it. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend these guys - unless you plan to book when I'm going and I can't get a spot. Then you should probably book with someone else ;-)
