It's located at the southern end of the…read more"weinstrasse" (wine road) at a beautiful winery at Schweigen - Rechtenbach in southern Germany. It was wonderful. We sat outside on the deck overlooking the vineyards and beautiful German and French countrysides. The restaurant is located one kilometer from the French border. Our French server was Adeline and she was very nice and extremely helpful. She spoke German, French and English. We ordered off the menu and requested just two plates of steamed vegetables because we're vegetarians. We could tell no one had made that request before but Hirschler brought back exactly what we ordered. The food was delicious. It was cooked to perfection. We also had two glasses of sparkling wine which were fantastic and finished off our meal with cappuccinos. The view could not have been better and it was unbelievably quiet being a Friday afternoon. Adeline was an exceptional server. She was very sweet, patient with our limited ability to speak French and was a pleasure to talk to. Thank you Adeline for a wonderful lunch!

Most things on the menu are typical German Biergarten fare and done well. I highly recommend a hot pretzel with butter, a large mixed salad, and a flammkuchen. They have excellent flammkuchen here which I find a "sleeper item" to be done so well at a place where one wouldn't really expect it on the menu. They make their own beers and typically have the usual varieties on tap. On the day we visited they were down to only 2 varieties of beer and the service was average at best, so it lost a start this time.

The interior design and menu is very rustic German, with particular focus on local dishes. There is a huge outside area, which is particularly suited to families with children. The menu is reasonably sized, prices are very good, the food is tasty and quick, and portion sizes huge. The restaurant incorporates a small brewery making its own very good beer, which you can also order by the barrel for a private party. And if you feel like taking a souvenir, there is the option of buying some of their own 1 litre beer glasses. Cheers!
