The food was very good. Just a personal thing, if you advertise a dish and run out, take it off…read morethe menu!! Also, I prefer a more robust sinigang nga bangus, with more tamarind. Meat and tripe in kare kare was waaaay too big!!

Undeniably delicious and craveworthy Philippine plates are nicely made at Mesa. I love eating in…read moreSE Asia and love savoring the flavor dichotomies: salt and sweet, pungent and acetic, fish sauce and soy, browned garlic and spice..... it's exciting to my taste buds, different and hits my soul just right. I get Bourdain's obsession with Vietnam and its tables; eating in Asia is an example of how these flavors hit any culinary soul profoundly. The setting at Mesa is modern, simple if not utilitarian. The food and service? Delish and attentive. Philippine food is a bit like cooking Spanish, Chinese, Malay, Indo, food all converging into a melee of flavors, unfamiliar and strange to the novice, craveworthy to its aficionados. Once you've had it a few times you're hooked. The stews are delicious and tasty unique, the inihaw (grilled meats and seafood) savory and distinctive, and to a first timer, the flavor discoveries go on and on. My love of this food is vast as this cuisine represents the wondrous flavors of SE Asia: pronounced, distinctive, funky, tasty, flavor-rich and the memory it imparts to your palate is soulful, sexy, pervasive. A bit about the service here: Wait staff are attentive (in the 5 times I've visited) and if you're confused as to what to get, feel free to ask your waitperson. They'll be glad to help. Another reason I love eating in SE Asia and the Philippines is providers and wait staff have no attitude, EVER. They're so helpful and hospitable-- you're in SE Asia; it's about the enjoyment of the memory of flavors and planning your next meal during. Not questioning that.. what-so-ever. Love. Visits: 5 in different locations.

I heard about this place and what caught me was "home of the pinakbet pizza." I decided to give…read morethis place a go. AMBIANCE: Parking | There's parking right next to the restaurant for about 5-8 cars. There are other parking spaces a block over as well. Seating | All inside seating for small groups ranging from 4-10 people. Seating and tabling are wooden and pretty cozy. Feels | The area itself is pretty charming and very tourist attraction-esque like. You have a lot of local shops, eateries, and the famous Paoay Church. The space itself has somewhat of this Italian feel. The structure is vintage, somewhat spacious, and the music are ballad covers of top 40s. Great place for people of all ages or a nice date night. FOOD: Pinakbet Pizza (Recommend) I'm not too sure about the pizza culture here but it's pretty good. The dough is pretty soft and not too cheesy. It's all vegetables first and if you want to add the final touch of fish sauce is served in a container. Longanisa Pizza (Recommend) Since I asked for a half and half, this was my other half. The longanisa didn't seem fried but more over packed. The sausage wasn't overwhelming but it would've been nice if there were more. CUSTOMER SERVICE: As a tourist they were pretty friendly. They were helpful and our food came in relatively quick. TL;DR OVERALL 4.5 Stars. The food was a nice experience, the surroundings were pretty pleasant, and the food was good but I felt like there could've been more, maybe I'm used to American pizza. For those looking for a little comfort with an Ilocos Norte twist, I recommend checking this place out. TIPS: * To avoid the rush, come here during non-conventional hours (lunch/dinner) * They sell some pretty good pasalubongs if you're looking for that stuff.

No issues getting in or being seated. We decide on three dishes: Lumpiang Shanghai: the lumpia was kind of doughy. My wife thought it was undercooked. Fried Chicken: I love fried chicken, but these pieces were cut way too small to not overcook and become dry. Bulalo: Beef/beef bone soup with vegetables. Perfect!!! The broth was full of flavor. Veggies were cooked to perfection. I could order this again. Highly recommended. All in all, adequate for our trip. One more thing: although the atmosphere is pleasant and the service attentive, there is something that needs to be mentioned. On my side of the table the glass top had a huge tip on the corner. I could see where they tried to put caulk on it to help prevent someone from being cut, but there were still sharp areas. They probably should not use that table. Enjoy.
