When I was in hospital, my mum and dad said they'd take me out for dinner once I recovered, and here was the place my hmm wanted to go.
The crooked lum is named after the giant wonky chimney in the middle of the bar area. It's a Beefeater, so isn't awfully unlike Wetherspoons, but a bit classier looking. The restaurant area is huge, and wasn't close to full, so I was surprised when we were told we'd have a 20 minute wait as the kitchen were running behind. That should've been the first sign of a bad experience.
Once we were actually seated, it took just over an hour to get our food. I ordered the T-bone steak, my mum ordered a sirloin and my dad the mixed grill; a rump steak, gammon steak, lamb chop and chicken breast packed onto a plate. When the food actually arrived, I cut into my steak only to find a thoroughly cooked through steak, when I'd asked for medium rare. I sent it back and waited 20 minutes on another one, which is unacceptable because medium rare cooking does not take anywhere near that long.
They did take money off the bill for all the drama, and the only reason they're not getting one star is because we actually had a really good waitress, and she cant be faulted for the issues that were going on in the kitchen. I probably won't be back here though. read more
