Staff was super helpful and friendly, the lady building the vases was so sweet! I wish I remembered her name but she helped me out get orchid bark for my soil. There was a wide selection of indoor plants, they were healthy and the greenhouse was nice and humid. I left buying $70 worth of supplies and plants, the pots are even pretty and affordable. I love this nursery, and have visited many times but one day they turned the sprinklers at 5:30 PM when they close at 6 PM (sprinkler run for 50 minutes per employee). After we spend an hour making sure we made the right decisions, We left empty handed, and ended up making our purchase at another nursery. I understand wanting to kick people for closing time, hey! I have been there. Sadly, bad experiences stick the most. read more

We recently moved to Richmond from the Boston area and needed some greenery for our backyard. I wasn't familiar with what plants grew well in this region and online this nursery looked like it had the biggest selection, so off we went! I'm so glad we did! Upon arrival, there seemed to be a good amount of employees walking around with masks, and they had outdoor cashiers set up. After walking around for awhile I decided to ask an employee for help on what to plant in our full sun backyard. She was wonderful! She spent probably a good twenty minutes walking us around to show what would work best in our space and answering all of my questions while giving us some insight into the nursery. ALL of their plants are grown in house or locally in Virginia. They have a rewards system for every $100 you spend you get $5 back, which while not amazing is still better than nothing. So far we've been back again and had an equally good experience the second time. It'll be hard to pull my business away from here. read more

About 6 weeks ago, I placed an order on the Cross Creek website for a fairly large order of mulch (9 yards). I didn't hear anything at all from them, so I called and left several voice messages. Didn't hear a word. So then I tried placing a second order on their website. I had heard that their mulch was very good, so I thought maybe they were just real busy. No response. Again, I called multiple times and left several messages. No response. Bottom line---DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME WITH CROSS CREEK. THEY DON'T WANT YOUR BUSINESS. Just yesterday they finished doing work for our next door neighbor, and before they left, they blew all the leaves from our neighbors' front yard and driveway into our drive and yard. Then they departed. Our neighbors would be horrified, so we'll just clean up Cross Creek's mess and say nothing. But honestly, how lazy can you get? read more

I hate to say it, but I honestly cannot stand this place as a retail store. I dread going here, but there are one or two must-have items that you can only find online otherwise. I would imagine that they do a great job with landscaping, but the retail portion needs some serious reworking. They rarely put prices on any of the pottery items. They sometimes put prices on the shelf in front of the item, but they often put their entire stock of an item in the wrong spot. This is an issue every single time I go, and it is beyond frustrating because the place is always packed, and the workers are always overwhelmed and racing to and fro. Just the same, however, they are always friendly and helpful. The other issue is organization and stock. The items aren't priced, and they can't even tell you if they only sell one size of the item or if it's sold out because the shelves aren't ever properly marked. If they would have one spot for each item, then it would be obvious because an empty space would entail an out-of-stock item. They don't have a unified organization system for stock, so who knows. Checkout is a true disaster. You have looong lines and only one person actually checking out at the register. Why is that? Because there are soooo many price-related questions and often stock-related questions too that they are always having to call in help. Yes, call in help for pricing too. I have seen them have to radio in assistance for pricing, people. Since so much is untagged, just imagine how long it would take to ring up a long line of folks if most of them have untagged items. No fun. Don't even think about asking a gardening question because they'll have to call up someone on that, but they'll just talk by radio. You won't actually get to talk to them yourself. Frustrating. The overall organization of the place is annoying to me as well. Things just seem to be all over the place, especially the pottery. They just really need work on more seamless flow and a clear organizational pattern from one item and one zone to the next. They are getting better with having more unique plant varieties, but that can still use some work too. A visit to a nursery for a gardener should be exciting and pleasant. This place stresses me out. Thankfully, at least the people are nice, but if they are clueless about everything, that doesn't help much. It's not the employee's fault, so I am always patient with them, but inside I am thinking "is this purchase absolutely necessary?" I have, on a multiple occasions, decided that the purchase wasn't important enough to put up with the headache, and just left the line and went home. I am generally a very patient person, but this place just requires far too much work to make one small purchase. Cross Creek has major potential, but they really have to shift majorly with marking prices, organization, and staff knowledge. I happily drive thirty minutes away to go to the competition rather than driving less than 10 minutes here. read more

Cross Creek is a really beautiful place, and has an impressive array of flora for sale. The staff is really helpful, and they have some farm animals who kind of hang out in the middle of everything. The one thing I can't comment on is how it compares price-wise, just because I'm pretty new to buying plants. I'll go back. read more

Went there for the first time today, after buying a Social Living coupon online. I've driven by Cross Creek Nursery in the past, but never stopped in. I was very impressed with the creative landscaping. This is arguably one of the most interesting nurseries anywhere. There are two small ponds, baby farm animals (in a pen), and three friendly dogs roaming the premises. They also have a nice outdoor patio w/ outdoor fireplace where they serve hot dogs, burgers & chips on Saturday afternoons, and even a bouncy castle for little kids. Cross Creek's selection of plants and trees is quite good, and they grow most of them right on the premises. Unfortunately, this is not reflected in the price. I've shopped quite a bit at the Great Big Greenhouse -- about 3 miles down Courthouse/Huguenot Road -- and have found their prices to be less on most things... including mulch. And Great Big Greenhouse seems to have more things on sale at any given time. The staff at Cross Creek is very friendly and helpful. If they weren't so pricey, I would consider shopping there again.. I still might stop by for a burger on their patio sometime. read more

It always seems like their selection is extensive when you ride by but when I come to here looking for specific plants/flowers etc. They rarely have what I'm looking for. Customer service is hit or miss. Some people are really helpful, some are not at all. Seems like you are bothering them when you ask a question (older tall guy that works there). read more

I have used the florist at CrossCreek each Fall to make my bows for my front door wreath. They have always done a fantastic job. This year I ordered an expensive ribbon for my front door Christmas wreath and decided to take it to Cross Creek to have it done professionally. Wendy, the manager, gave the ribbon to Kim, one of the floral designers. She butchered my ribbon. There is no continuity to the bow, the gold ribbon that she added to it overshadows the velvet ribbon that should have been the star of the show. She cut it in to pieces so now there is really nothing I can do with it but throw it away. When I called the business Wendy told me that she "thought it looked nice." We have bought our plants in the spring and Christmas trees in the winter from them for years. They've lost a loyal customer. read more

I had them do some work on both my front and backyards. Their first attempt was poorly executed and the PM had told us that it was correct. After showing pictures of their poor work and some argument about how their work should be done, they finally agreed that it needed to be corrected. On the second attempt, with a different crew, the crew performing the work had shown that the work performed was installed completely incorrect - system wasn't connected at all, products that were quoted on the invoice wasn't what was installed, improper grading etc. After days of correcting and destroying my yard, they finally got it done. The work started in May and finally finished in late June. Neither the owner or the project manager felt as if we were entitled to any consideration on pricing. They simply said the work was done as quoted. If I hadn't have known better, I would've paid thousands for a system that wasn't installed properly. Essentially, they dug holes, buried some pipes and covered up with dirt. I would go elsewhere if you need real work done. Go find a contractor that will get done right the first time and save yourself the headache of being a part time project manager that doesn't get paid. read more

I am VERY upset! The flower arrangement I ORDERED looks NOTHING like the one that was delivered!! The recipients have just lost a baby and I wanted to send them love and support in the way of a floral arrangement. What they got was a sub-par arrangement that looks nothing like I ordered. I understand substitutions sometimes need to be made, but this looks awful and bare, whereas the one I ordered was full of roses surrounded by light purple flowers. What they got was a sorry looking bunch of roses and nothing else. I am livid! I paid a lot of money for basically crap! A child could've put together that arrangement. Heck! For the amount I paid, I could've made an arrangement and driven it the eight hours round trip cheaper than what I paid for this sorry arrangement! I have a comparison picturbe of them side by side I wish I could submit! I will never buy from them again!!! read more

We contacted you back in August to get some ideas about re-doing the front beds of our landscape in front of the house. They were old and tired and missing parts---you know the deal. From the very first phone call (I talked to a fellow who explained the whole process clearly and thoroughly, and gave me a "rough" estimate, which turned out to be fairly close) I realized this was very do-able, Next up was Lauren, who came out to the house in a prompt, timely manner.....had some great ideas and listened to what we wanted, gave suggestions, changed the original plan without any hesitation---in short, she was wonderful. Answered all my questions, scheduled everything, made sure everything was going well. Responses to emails were timely and clear. And friendly as well. Then the day came when work began. On schedule. This is really nice for a change. Seriously. Danny and Nery were wonderful. Danny placed all the plants after they finished thoroughly preparing the beds (they were a mess----overgrown, stumps were needing to be ground, old plants removed) and asked for my feedback. I had some, we replaced them, looked at them again, made another couple adjustments---I really felt like they cared about what I thought. Not dismissive at all. Very pleasant to deal with, seemed to enjoy what he was doing, quick wiith a smile. The same for Nary. His concern for getting the job done right was very apparent. Attention to detail, answering my questions, explaining why they were doing what they were doing.....both guys---I just cant say enough good about them. Jason came on the second day and did a great job with the edging (which really finished the project up nicely). Like most people, we've had our share of contractors we would NEVER use again......You all underpromised and overdelivered. Such a nice change. I will be singing your praises! read more

I ordered flowers for Mother's Day through FTD's website. My wife sent pictures of the flowers when they arrived from Cross Creek Florist. The delivery girl dumped the flowers at her office and left in a rush. Upon reviewing the picture of the flowers, I immediately called my wife and apologized. The flowers that were delivered were no where close to what was pictured on the FTD website. The flowers delivered to my wife looked like something I had thrown together at a grocery store. The vase contained mostly filler flowers (pansies) with only about 4 roses and handful of carnations. Some of the stems were broken and appeared to have fallen during transit. I contacted Cross Creek florist no their request sent pictures of the flowers that were sent and those that I viewed from the FTD website. The girl said they would be correcting the order and would be sending new flowers That was Friday before Mother' Day. As of Monday, no flowers were deliveredI called FTD again on Monday following Mother's Day and was assured the new flowers were on their way to my wife's office and should be there by 4pm. As of Tuesday , still no flowers!! I will never use this florist and have notified FTD of my experience. read more

We have patronized this establishment many times since moving to the area; however, we won't be recommending them nor frequenting this business again. Two issues have arisen and both involve totally incompetent employees. The first was when I tried to return some decor items I hadn't used. The employee actually recharged my credit card instead of crediting it. I never went back b/c I was afraid they still wouldn't figure it out. The second experience was a much bigger issue. My husband has a pick-up truck that he drove there to get a load of dirt. The employee did not secure the bucket to the equipment and when he tipped the bucket it crushed the bed of the pickup. Management got involved and gave their insurance information; however, we were still expected to pay full price for the dirt. Having to take the truck for repair, get a rental vehicle that is appropriate for his business, having an accident report on the carfax when the truck is sold is all a major inconvenience - and would have been totally avoided if this business had competent employees that knew what they were doing. I don't recommend anyone waste their money at this business. read more

I want to share a great experience with Jason at Cross Creek Nursery. I have spent hours looking for very large concrete urn planters. I have driven all over Richmond with no success. I spent hours online and no luck. The pandemic has created issue with getting home supplies. Anyway, I decided to call Cross Creek since it is 20 minutes from my home. I asked Jason if he had the planters that I needed. He told me about their assortment and took my number so he could sent me photos. I was thrilled that he had exactly what I was looking for at a great price and delivery was only $50. I then drove to CCN and was pleasantly surprised to see how nice the planters were. The nursery is like a secret garden. There are many acres of beautifully organized plants, flowers, shrubs, trees, gardening supplies, etc. and at very good prices. The icing on cake...Jason and all the other employees provide incredible customer service. I also discovered they provided a wide range of services and I decided to have them install the shrubs that I purchased. I am thrilled to find this wonderful business and my experience here was all thanks to Jason. He is a landscaping super hero! read more

Even after lots of TLC and proper watering, both the Dogwood tree and the Quince shrub I purchased and paid to have planted by Cross Creek Nursery are dead or near dead. I don't want to wait a year to see if this poor pathetic tree makes it and I know the quince has not. I am calling to see what response I receive to my request for credit or replacement now. Will keep you posted. Update as of oct: cross creek came and dug up the dead tree and quince and planted another dogwood. They are still tracking down a quince like one I had. The new tree is smaller but beautiful. I am going to ask for credit for price difference and buy annuals next spring. Will update again but so far I am happy with Cross Creek! read more

I ordered Mother's Day flowers through FTD the Friday morning before Mother's Day. I received a call from customer service on Friday afternoon stating that the florist was at capacity and couldn't deliver until Saturday. Ok fine. They would still be delivered before Mother's Day. No problem. They were not delivered Saturday, as promised. Or Sunday for that matter. I called FTD on Sunday and they assured me they would be delivered Monday. They were not. Called back Monday and they assured me they would be delivered Tuesday. They were not. Finally, on the Wednesday after Mother's day, my step-mom received her flowers. This place is a joke. read more

Can I give it a zero rating? We are very dissatisfied with our arrangement. My aunt & uncle sent an arrangement to my parents & it is NOT worth the money paid! We received the arrangement on Monday & it was left on my porch laying on its side. The bowl would not hold the arrangement upright. I called & complained. I was told that a driver would come by on Tuesday to switch out the arrangements. We waited all day & the driver never came. When I called, they were closed so I left a message. No one called me back so i called on Wednesday. They came around noon on Wednesday & the arrangement is smaller and doesn't have everything it was supposed to have. It is still not secure. I am very disappointed and we are contacting the company that it was ordered through to keep my family's credit card from being charged. read more

I searched and searched for help outside with some items I was looking for but yet no assistance from any employees. After getting tired of waiting, I came to the conclusion that I will not be shopping here after being a 10 year customer. I've had many problems in the past but always put them to the side but not anymore. I will happily take my business elsewhere, and as far as my mother doing business with Cross Creek Maintenance for our landscape, that will be fixed and we will be choosing another service provider. Jaime has been rude to my mother on several instances and we are tired of it. Paying for rude service is ridiculous. I just don't understand how it got this point... Cross Creek is one of my favorite nurseries around town. The employees are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. Their selection of plants is varied, and they are expanding into new spaces. Prices match/beat most other stores. There is one woman who works there who is a superstar. If you have a question, ask her. She's on the shorter-side, middle age, dark hair. It doesn't hurt that my kids love the frogs and lizards that inhabit the stream that runs through the property. Built in entertainment. More time to browse! Cross Creek has extensive hardscaping. I have not used this service, but the work there is beautiful. There are other places I would go, if I were looking for something specialized such as houseplants, or herbs. But most often my car steers itself to Cross Creek. read more

These people are the absolute worst. I would under no circumstances use them again. Although they were to plant trees for us, they first brought the wrong type of trees and instead of one type of tree they brought bushes. The trees they first brought were almost dead. The second time they came they brought healthier trees and the correct trees but then while planting the trees killed a harmless black snake in my yard with a shovel because their landscape crew is afraid of snakes. In addition they are expensive, difficult to communicate with and should be in some other business. read more

As noted in the other reviews, the quality of the products is very good. However, I have found the level of service terrible. I have been a customer of Cross Creek for years, even before it grew into the large business it is now. Unfortunately, the quality of service has not been able to keep up with this growth. Over the past couple of years I have attempted to inquire about services only to be sent to voice mail and have calls returned days later, or send an email only to receive a response that does not answer the questions asked. Yesterday I tried to call about purchasing yard mulch. Once again, I was sent to voice mail. I called back, and the employee took a message - my call was again not returned. In frustration I sent an email from their site which went to the vice president who did call me immediately, and was very decent about listening to me voice my frustration, but never offered an explanation as to why this happens. This morning, I tried to use the option for live chat - around 10:30 a.m. Saturday, only to be on the chat system waiting for over five minutes only to give up. I tried calling again, only to have my call dropped. I think I need to find another business for my landscaping needs. Cross Creek is expensive, and based on my experience with their service, I am not sure that it is worth it. For me it was about convenience and the fact that I have been a long time customer. read more
