They have a lot of open space for training, the facility is big, but not too big, the staff and members are friendly and, in general you can get everything you want DONE. Like, you're not waiting on equipment/machines, everything you need is there, blah, blah, blah, happy days. And they have a STEP MILL, as in like, a rolling staircase contraption. I hate cardio, but that is my favourite thing! Step mills are like unicorns in Australian gyms. When I first saw they got one, I had to control myself from doing a little happy dance, lol. I get annoyed when I want to use it and there is someone on MY STEP MILL. How dare they. Maybe the gym should get another one or two, eh? :) They have these boxing classes I never do and "quickie spin" or something (I also never do it), but not a full array of classes, which since I never do classes, I don't give a shit about. But it might be a bummer for you if you really like that kind of thing.

This place is a total dive and dangerous…read more The change rooms are an embarrassment Showers are missing doors, NO hair Or body wash / shampoo Toilet are the worst filthy smelling. Then you go to the relaxing zone You need a mask to enter from the never clean floor, they never clean so much so that stone on the floor are stained and Bleached it's colours (black stone) from the dirt. You walk in the steam room and it is slippery from the dirt accumulated other the year's of never been properly cleaned. We complain and we are processed that they will replace if all This pLace is a total health danger The steam rooms is never working Now that Fitnessfirst manage to claim to keep the clubs cleaned. I can assure you that Newtown is the must exception Members complain and complain and they do nothing to keep us safe I notice members sweating on equipment this weekend and they had no one controlling anyone safety against the virus So I decided to cancel or block my membership for at least 3 months because of an ankle surgery this week that I am having and the girl at the front desk simple said unless I could prove of it I would be paying fees for But they are the one closing the gym earlier and earlier without any members permission. I am paying for a club that simply screw you at their convenience and not the members Forget about the attitude coming from the staff looking down at you all the time So people my advised if you think of joining this place think of if twice certainly not Newtown

The gym is clean and fresh with relatively new equipment. They have a floor downstairs for cardio then upstairs is all about weights with a free weights spot and then a spot for machines. The cardio spot is generous in size with plenty of bikes, treadmills and rowers available. The downstairs also has a good area for stretching and yoga perhaps. The locker rooms are clean and also have a relaxation area with a steam room perfect for after those extra tough session. The gym gets quite warms though and I would be worried what it would be like in the summer months because upstairs it doesn't look like they have an air conditioning unit.

GIRLS - CAMPERDOWN FITNESS HAS GHD'S IN THEIR CHANGEROOMS…read more If this first sentence isn't a game-changer for you, then this review may be helpless. But for me, this was the little feature that had me asking "So where do I sign up?" The gym in itself is pretty nice. One giant warehouse style room, the gym is filled with a plentiful supply of cardio machines (treadmills, X-trainers, bikes and steps), and four spacious weights divisions dedicated to working different parts of the body - back, arms, legs and free weights. Upstairs is a stretching room and a ladies only area. Whilst I appreciate the idea of a ladies only area, this section of the gym is by far its worst. Whereas the rest of the gym is filled with light and is bouncing with music coming from the plasma screen dancing with trashy video clips (or the news, if you so choose), the ladies room is dark, dingy and quiet, with no speakers meaning that the only sound is that that manages to make its way upstairs from the downstairs speakers. Camperdown Fitness also offers your regular gym classes (Boxing, Spin, Yoga, etc.) which are included in your membership, and the trainers are mostly pretty good. Also, whilst you take some time for yourself in a yoga class, your kids can wait in the kid's playroom in the room next door. All the staff have always got a smile for you and seem to know when you don't want to be approached, so there's no fear of them coming and offering unwanted advice. In saying that, they are also helpful if you need them to be, and a few free Personal Training sessions are included in any membership. But, all this aside, Camperdown Fitness has GHDs in the ladies change-rooms. This means not having to go home between gym and work, gym and date, or gym and any further plans. Alternatively, it also means not having to carry your hair straightener around with you all day or risking leaving it behind. Camperdown Gym is the kind of gym that you want to go back to. It's clean, bright, spacious and motivating. The music isn't as terrible as it could be, the staff are great, and you can flick through the tvs at your leisure when on the cardio machines. Giant fans blast you in summer and icy-cold bubblers are dotted around the gym. Mirrors line every wall, so you're able to keep check on your own form whilst watching others without getting caught out. The main negative point is that its large glass front walls are positioned directly in front of a bus stop, so every person on Parramatta Rd is watching whilst you slog it out, running and sweating, flushed and panting. But hey, they can judge all they like - at least you're exercising.

Hiscoes is probably the daggiest gym in Sydney. And this is why I love it…read more At Hiscoes it's highly unlikely that you will come across any young, beefed up, oiled and muscley men doing bicep curls in front of a mirror, throwing you side glances to see if you're watching. It's also highly unlikely that you will feel the need to update your work-out clothes every month in order to maintain the trendy look of the gym. And whilst Hiscoes does have a committed community of regulars, it's highly unlikely that you will be running beside rippling 'Biggest Loser' trainers or beautifully toned film stars that make you want to close your eyes whilst running on the treadmill (not advisable). The gym is small and family based with a distinctly local scene. The downside of this is that if you prefer to be anonymous when you're working out, it's hard to go by unnoticed here. The staff know you by face and name, which means that they also know when it's been a while since your last visit. Also, don't think that just because Hiscoes' team of regulars fall within the 45 - 60 bracket that they're not intimidating too - it's tough standing beside any person that can run for hours without breaking into a sweat or bench-press more than three times what I can, let alone if they're twice or three times my age. Hiscoes has everything you need to try to get fit, including Spin, Boxing, Pilates and Yoga classes. Plus added motivation comes in the form of that cheesy, crusty pizza aroma that wafts across the road from Crust. And trust me, there's nothing like the smell of pizza to make you work harder.

Hiscoes is a great gym except for some of the staff. The blonde male personal trainer has all of…read morethe arrogance you would expect of someone who trains their clients but doesn't notice how they interrupt other peoples training. Also, the Sunday closure between 1 and 4pm might save wages but is a big negative. Otherwise it is a good gym very overpriced compared to others for the facilities but that is what you pay to keep a family gym going.
