Was seen by a doctor who booked me in for a appointment.I. He did the wrong operation. My gp referred me back again..seen another doctor there who examined me and could not even find the problem diagnosed by 2 different GPs and offered me a antiseptic cream.which is abusive as hell.Put a complaint in which can take a year.Gp referred me back.Sadly when I get another appointment I may have too go back too Royal again.they are useless . read more

Having recently discovered an unwanted growth on my testicle I decided it was time for a trip to the Glasgow Royal Infirmary. After a punctual arrival to the same day admission I was met with kind and welcoming nurses who took my name and got me seated. After a short wait I was met by the anaesthesiologist to go over the operation and then the surgeon. Both were well informed and kept me as ease. After a brief stint in the pre op room I was taken down to the bed I'd be knocked out on for a couple hours. I was wheeled calmly to the room, injected with some awfully cold fluids and work up two hours later feeling like a dog who just returned from the vets. Sore and feeling sorry for myself, I was met with dinner and drinks and just the most lovely team of dedicated nurses. minus leaving like I was walking 9 months pregnant and a little unsure if I can reproduce or not, I was well looked after and well fed. Only room for improvement is making the fluid pumped into me room temperature, maybe heat it up in the microwave before or leave it on the radiator. Cheers, Tim. read more

I love this old hospital, but then I am one of those weirdos that quite likes a good hospital. Oh yes. The history and sheer size of this place makes it magnificent enough but also with it being so close to the Necropolis, The Glasgow Cathedral and Glasgow Oldest House makes it just handy dandy doo for all you tourists and visitors to the Glasgow. I've heard there's an underground tunnel that runs all the way from the Glasgow Royal Infirmary to Central Station - I do not know if this is true but one day my friends I'm gonna find that tunnel and roller skate down it all the way, woooo! The whole building has a great mix of different architectural eras from 18th Century through to 1960's and right up to the modern day. Walking around is like a game of 'Spot The Era' (only me that plays that?...oh,okay...) This place is also got to be, for sure, HAS to be haunted so any wannabe Yvette Fielding's out there get down with your night-vision cameras now and catch them ghosties on film. This hospital gets an Angela Spookiness Factor of 8 out of 10 (9 at nighttime though). Pretty darn spooky. The canteen isn't the greatest in the world BUT I love this place too much to knock a star off for that reason. Just take sarnies or stick to the chips. read more

An old building that shows its age as much on the interior as on the outside in some places. I went for allergy tests last summer which was hysterical. Essentially, they strap a big massive plaster on your back with loads f wee coloured circles on it which resembles a Twister mat. It's unbelievably awkward to wear, and worse still when it is boiling and you sweat all these crazy colours onto your clothes and bedsheets. End result? NO allergies whatsoever.. but I could be doing with laying off the Irn Bru. How Scottish. Been here a few times since after calling NHS 24 for various non-emergencies. A good hospital, if such a thing exists. No-one likes going to hospitals, right? read more

I've not had reason to visit the Royal often - once to take a friend with a suspected broken arm (roller derby's a dangerous game), and more recently for an MRI appointment. The entrance to the main car park is along Alexandra Parade, and I was glad to find a massive multi-storey with loads of spots (I usually go to Southern General where parking is a nightmare!). The price wasn't too expensive either, I was there for under 3 hours and the cost was around £5. From the multi-storey, you need to head back to Alexandra Parade and walk about 5 minutes along to the main entrance to the hospital. As I'd only been to A&E before I found it a little hard to locate and would have appreciated more signs! Once I was in the main building, again there was a lack of signs and I found it really hard to find the MRI department even though I had a letter telling me where to go. This hospital is definitely showing signs of ageing and there was even a painter doing the walls of the MRI department while I was there which was a little strange. Overall though, this is an easy to get to, easy to park at hospital - and of course, the staff were brilliant (I think the health care in the UK is amazing). Hopefully I won't be back again though. read more

It never ceases to frustrate and anger me that Glasgow doesn't all look like this anymore. If the deluded post-war government hadn't knocked half it down and replaced it with wasteland and tower blocks, I genuinely think the sheer amount of sinister, foreboding and downright atmospheric 18th/19th century architecture present here would have made the city far bigger a modern-day tourist attraction than it is now. Even with all the derelict 60s hovels, it's still some way ahead of similar sized cities like Liverpool and Leeds in this respect. This utterly spine-chilling building is possibly the best of the lot, and while it's possibly bad taste to go in just for a look round whilst others suffer a grave fate around you, the buildings corridors, with 2 centuries of bloody and dark history, are like a ghost walk in themself. read more

Over the past few months i have had the misfortunre to spend ALOT of time at the Royal. This is a mixed review of sorts. Things I dont like ... the parking! So expensive to park here in the multistory. £1.60 per hour is a shocking amount to charge someone who may be here for several hours. The general layout - not much can be done given the age of the place but it is a rabbit warren with so many clinics and wards hidden out of reach. Unfortunetly I have had appointments not followed up correctly here on more than one occasion which is frustrating howver I now want to move onto the positives. More recently I have had to attend for appointments and procudures and the nursing staff have been AMAZING!! Nurses often get bad reviews in the press but i cant thank the ones I have met recently enough. They have made so far what has been a stressful and upsetting time that little bit easier. As sad as this sounds - Glasgow Royal Infirmary is a must see. It is a prime example of amazing Glasgow architecture. Well, at least on the outside. It's interior does show the old roots in some places, while other places look deceptively modern. The modern adaptions can be somewhat deceiving too, as I myself have experienced. On one particular visit, when a family member was moved from the 'old' main section to the 'new section'. Little, did I realise that the new section - accessed through a massively, long, lonely and rather creepy corridor - is approximately half a mile away! On the 'business' side of things, I have known people who have been treated here and others who have worked here. From both sets, on opposite ends, the feedback has been good. I never want to end up in hospital but when that time comes, this hospital would definitely not be the worst option. Altogether, this place has history oozing and is well worth a look (hopefully, this is the only reason you'll find yourself here). read more

The Glasgow Royal Infirmary is possibly the creepiest building in the world. If I had to put money on anywhere in Glasgow being haunted it would be this place, second only to the Necropolis. I visited my grandmother here a while back and popped out of the ward to the patients toilets to find myself running down winding stone staircases and dark corridors. No wonder the place is creepy, it dates back to 1794. The Royal Infirmary has an incredible history; antiseptic, bone grafts and ultrasound were all invented here. read more

I go a few times a year to the hearing aid clinic to get them adjusted and all of the hospital staff are friendly and helpful. On another occasion my cousin was bitten by a dog and their plastic surgery team were absolute godsends sorting it out. It's really really hot in there so wear layers that you can strip off. I know hospitals are always hot but geezo, it's hot. I've almost fainted twice it's so hot. I now like to go in a vest top and shorts! read more

Glasgow Royal Infirmary stands on the former site of Glasgow Castle in the city's original medieval core. There are three sections - the original "Old Building" on Castle Street - which is the rather grim looking Victorian original part, six storeys high that looks out onto Castle Street. You are really unlucky if you are in a ward here, as the east facing windows look out onto the Necropolis - the last thing you want to see if you are ill quite possibly. Anyway - it is divided into three sections - the Surgical Block, Centre Block, and Medical Block. Inside it's old and decrepit, and suffers from decades of endless emulsioning over the original period features. Then there is the Queen Elizabeth Building (which everyone used to call the "New Building") - that's the dirty white concrete building with the slitted windows that opened in the the early '80s to a design by the infamous Basil Spence (of Hutchensontown C fame....), and contains most of the labs, Wards 60-66 and Townhead Health Centre. It is typical of late 1970s hospital design - a labyrinth of huge, dimly lit corridors that go on for miles and miles, and with three sets of lifts - but you only ever tend to find one of them in your entire time here. Which is inconvenient since only one serves the short-cut down to Wishart Street. The third part is the Princess Royal Materinity Block and the Jubilee Building which were both built at the turn of the millenium. This is by far the nicest part as its is the most modern obviously...and the infamous new multistorey car park with its punitive charges is part of this section as well :(( Of course - no one wants to be in a hospital in the first place do they. read more

I compliment all of the Staff in the Nuclear Cardiology Unit, Glasgow Royal Infirmary. I have attended twice (a week apart) and have found their approach to be of the highest standard. They were efficient, consistent and friendly with a brightness that is not always experienced in a highly efficient Unit - but they have it all. Susan McLean read more

Ok so this is mainly due to my experience in A&E, The hospital itself is very clean and nice in general, Staff are polite if just a little disorganised. I was originally seen and brought through very quickly, I had an initial consultation with a nurse practitioner and then waited for 4 hours before a doctor actually saw me which took all of 20mins before getting a referal. I would have thought this was a one off if a similar thing hadn't happened to the ladies in the cubicles each side of me both being left for similar amounts of time. I could understand the issue if they had been busy, however on this occasion the doctors were just standing around drinking coffee and talking. I can't fault them in emergency situations so I have given them 3 stars for what it's worth. read more

'You've checked in here 2 times! What keeps you coming back?' Hahaha that made me laugh (seriously, watch over the months how many check ins there are to Gartnavel, I'll be the Gartnavel Transplant Duchess!) because what on earth keeps me coming back to the Royal?! It's not my choice but when you need to pay a visit, you need to. I've been to the hospital a lot over the years and it holds some really painful memories for me, so I don't like coming here at all. One of the biggest issues I have with this hospital is that parking has to be paid for, which just isn't at all. Not getting into the politics of all that, but it's extremely unfair. Eventually, we got parked and made our way into the hospital. This place is a maze, inside and out. There are signposts but I would argue that they aren't accurate enough and there should be more of them to make life a little easier. The A & E entrance is beside the car park and as you head in, there are ceiling to floor windows...I watched quite a few elderly patients be removed from ambulances to be taken inside, things like that really upset me...I personally wouldn't have put ceiling to floor windows there just to walk a few yards and go through double doors. Anyway... As I was only a visitor offering a shoulder to cry on, I can't comment much on the treatment my friend received but the waiting time was minimal (this was a prebooked appointment in another section, not A & E) and the staff did a good job. As we left we walked passed the mortuary (lovely) and headed back to the car park. There are various floors to the car park but of course, the payment machine was only working on the ground floor and there was a lengthy queue. The elderly man behind us was clearly upset (he had been there with his wife and got some bad news). He asked for his place to be kept as he went to let her sit in the car as she was unwell. I really felt for him. He mentioned that the machines on other floors had not been working for some time...that's unacceptable. I'll always admire the work hospital staff do but I can't justify more than 2 stars. I've definitely experienced a lot better. read more

Last three years have been difficult for both my parents. Nurses in royal were just brilliant dad now in care home. Mum very frail but ok. Yes it's not the most fancy hospital nurses working under so much pressure worst aspect parking a bloody nightmare. I count my blessings I could take taxis back and forward to hospital. The most inexperienced and rushed hospital I've ever been to. I came in with body pains, coughing, and chest aches, as well as a temp over 99F. They did blood tests and listened to lungs and said nothing is wrong I can go. As I was leaving, my whole body seized up and we rushed to get seen again. They said "oh that's odd" "maybe a panic attack". Did no testing, did nothing to assist. Just left me alone in a chair. They sent me home after saying "well we gave you our analysis and we find nothing wrong. We have 25 people waiting for this room, can you leave soon". I had a 10 hour flight back to the states where I could barely stand up for long periods and they did a flu test and bronchitis check and found I had both. My girlfriend is pregnant and we are incredibly worried as it can greatly affect the baby. If I had simply been diagnosed properly 2 days prior that would reduce her exposure by a lot. Doctors in the states found out exactly what I had in under 10 minutes with a simple test. Don't go to this hospital ever if you value your lofe read more

This place is appalling. Most of the staff that our family had dealings with were unpleasant, aggressive and uncaring. There is a feeling of tension about the place. Maintenance is poor and patient care is appalling. A and E is like a war zone. The worst hospital I have ever experienced. Outpatient clinics are unpleasant with staff to match. Air conditioning does not work and windows don't open so patients are struggling with the heat. Food is poorr quality - when available - as it was not always available. One morning there were no cups at breakfast so therefore no tea and coffee. I wrote a letter about the conditions which they threw in the bin without answering. My husband was traumatised by the experience and refused to be readmitted. He almost died of neglect. read more

The staff can be friendly, the doctors talented/skilled, but the hospital itself is dark, almost gloomy and unclean. Not the best of places to go into especially the old part of the hospital. The new part is slightly better and the canteen here more.,........customer friendly, if you can avoid it.stay healthy. read more
