We chose to visit as this site is connected to my family history. Our local driver was not optimistic about seeing much. We were all pleasantly surprised when we met Jean, a local caretaker and representative of Historic Scotland. She took time to show us around, share historical facts, and then let us look around on our own. Jean then looked at other sites we planned to visit and helped plan the most reasonable route. She helped gain access to a nearby church and cemetery when we found ancestors from the 1600s.
The Abbey was easy to move around. There were signs indicating the various structures and uses of the spaces. Much if the ornate detail is intact. We bought a souvenir guide book to add to our knowledge.
Thank you Jean and Historic Scotland for making this a wonderful experience. read more
