This place was an absolute must try after seeing it pop up in my feeds. I checked the website and…read moreit showed they were closing in an hour. I called and tried to place a Togo order and they do not allow for that. They did say though that they keep serving customers even if it's past closing. So took the drive to the other side of Columbia and it was very much worthwhile. They sell out of things and so if things are cross off the menu, then you should have went earlier. I missed out on the smoked links. It was pretty quiet for a Sunday afternoon and there were not that other many people in the dining area. Hopefully, that's just because it's a Sunday in South Carolina. The burnt ends, wings, wings, collards, beans, corn bread and rich with hash we're all stand outs. The staff was very friendly and helped make this place a gem that I'll highly recommend.

I feel like barbecue spots might follow a similar playbook regarding meats, smoke, sides, and…read moresauce, but they certainly are not created equal. When I was visiting my sister in Columbia, South Carolina, she told me about City Limits Barbecue and since there was only one day on our calendar that they would be open, our schedule was set. We got there pretty early after they had opened, but there's still was a line out the door. A little bit into our wait in line the owner/chef came out to talk us through the menu, his process, and recommendations. This was such a cool touch. I loved hearing about everything that he put into the product and the passion he has for his cooking. As you can imagine... The food was SPECTACULAR. Look, the brisket was absolutely top-notch and this beef rib was possibly the most tender chunk of meat I have ever had. We also got a half pound of their chopped whole hog option with crispy skins, and while it was delicious and flavorful, it didn't have the smoke or barbecue flavor without sauce that I was looking for. Of course, we had to go with practically an appetizer sampler of the sides and if I would've been able to put the food away, I would have just ordered one of everything. The collard greens were really good and not overly bitter, this sweet jalapeño coleslaw was maybe one of my favorite coleslaw recipes I've ever had, but the star of the show in my opinion were the sweet beans which was what most people would call baked beans. The amount of time, effort, and attention to every flavor in these beans was 10/10. Talk about bringing a humble ingredient to life. The cornbread was as amazing as you would imagine and the carrot cake was delicious. If you're looking for something unique with their barbecue, opt for the brisket sandwich with chili con queso or the Texicano. I was being a purist snob and just wanted the beef rib, but I stole a bite of my sister's sandwich and holy cow... Starve yourself the day before you visit, arrive early, and prepare to have a religious experience.

PUT SOME SOUTH IN YO MOUF!!!!…read more That's not the slogan for The Peanut Stand but I sure was singing it as I happily peeled off the gravel road surrounding this Manning, SC local business located right on a country road corner intersection. I had a hankering for boiled peanuts so my cousin directed me to this place that I had to write down old school directions for (go down past the church, make a right, another right, then a left and if you see the farm you went too far). This small family business has been around for quite some time and the woman I spoke with was more than happy to tell me about her family's business although she was leery of me taking photos because apparently there was some legal issues going on between family members (yikes). Anyway, what a lovely place! It's literally just a step above a shack but filled with home grown and/or local treats. The boiled peanuts were delicious and at only about $3 for a bag, more than worth the price! If you haven't had boiled peanuts, please add a trip to the South for a bag to your bucket list. Feel free to put it before the trip to the Himalayas and bungee jumping. The store is open seasonally so they won't be open till May but the next time I'm down in Manning, they will be seeing my face for sure! They also have a Facebook page that's updated with store news and special hours so be sure to take a glance and/or call them before you venture out.
