We sat out at the front last time we were there as the sun was out and it was lovely to watch the World go by. I had a Sirloin steak when I ate there and had no complaints at all. Cooked perfectly and tasted nice and fresh with all th etrimmings. I wouldn't mind going back to try their Sunday roast as it has a good reputation. We were there at lunch time so there was no music on but we will definitely be going back to see one of the live gigs there!

The decor is a little jumbled from area to area, which gives the place a slightly uneasy feel. The staff behind the bar are pretty friendly and helpful, but the younger food waiting staff can tend toward the monosyllabic. Food is pretty decent here and certainly very good value, with desserts being a real highlight in terms of taste and variety. Overall, I have no great complaints about The Bear and I certainly commend the decent live music that they host here.

The food is very good for snacks, although for me it's a bit too lively for dinner. They also do an excellent salad bar lunch Monday to Saturday. The only slight quibble is the service which can sometimes be a little slow, but I know they're working on this at the moment. They are just the right consistency, not too heavy or dough like, not too dry and crispy but just right...light and fluffy with enough spongy volume to almost classify and the perfect Yorkshire pudding. Lady's and Gentlemen, if Yorkie's are your thing - this is the place! The sweet potato fries are a great side, the cauliflower cheese was also very very good; almost crispy on top but with a cheesy creamy sauce underneath. The scotch egg is also worth a mention as this is a British classic and it is cooked to well here, highly recommended. Both dishes were absolutely outstanding, and we've been traveling for more than a week in England and have been to England before. Had to be right up at the top if not the top meal we've had in England! On top of that, we were late to an attraction, and as we walked down the street after leaving the pub, the owner Mark pulled up alongside of us and insisted on giving us a ride to the ferry so we'd have plenty of time to see Osborne House!
