Rebekah took such wonderful care of our family. A friend who was pregnant at the same time as me recommended her and I'm so glad I was able to grab her last spot for August. Rebekah truly went above and beyond! This is definitely her calling. She's really chill, but highly professional, keeps it real, and keeps the focus on what needs to get done today or this week, while at the same time she was more than happy to answer my questions about what to expect for the future. I tend to focus so much on the future I neglect the present, so I loved this approach, it's very grounding. We really felt cared for at every appointment and she took the time to get to know us and our story, and gave us lots of opportunities to ask questions. She really helped put my concerns to rest. I love her approach to the mental/emotional aspect of giving birth, and how your attitude towards birth is what really determines your experience. (Now that I'm on the other side, I can confidently say that's 100% true.) She emphasized that the contractions can't be stronger than you because they are you. I was nervous about the whole home birth process but talking to her put me at ease. The whole process of preparing and gathering all the stuff and getting the house ready was very empowering, and I can honestly say I actually enjoyed my labor (!!) despite the intensity of it. Originally we had done most of out prenatal care at a birth center in Santa Rosa. Our family was displaced TWICE during the Santa Rosa/Napa fires of 2017. My wife was at 40 weeks, and ready to go into labor at any moment. We were forced to head east in search of a midwife that was available to take us in on short notice. Needless to say, this was stressful for me & heartbreaking for my wife. I searched & called around from Los Angeles up to Sacramento. Most midwifery's were unwilling or unable to help us. Rebekah was willing to take us in. And for that alone, my family will always be grateful. Anyone reading this should take a moment to let it sink in what a kind act it was for Capital Midwifery to come to our rescue. I'd say it says everything about who they are but it doesn't. The other reviews listed here on Yelp aren't hyperbole when describing Rebekah & Danielle. There is more... Capital Midwifery are incredibly good at their job & their facility is excellent. And I can say that with credibility being that (due to the fires & other circumstances) we were now on our 3rd birthing-center of our pregnancy. My wife had gone into this extremely sad that she couldnt use the midwives she'd formed a bond with during most of our prenatal care. But then we met with Capital Midwifery, and we gave each other a crash course to get caught up & familiar with each other. Both my wife & I left the initial visit both feeling like we'd found the perfect midwifes for us. Personally, for me, I wanted a natural birth but I also wanted direct answers & advice on the various options of labor. Throughout the pregnancy I had struggled to get the sort of direct guidance I was seeking (that you would normally find from a doctor/hospital) but from a holistic background. In Rebekah & Danielle, that was no longer an issue. Whether it was their style, or the nature of emergency get-to-know-each-other, or that they picked up on my vibe and they adapted to make me feel comfortable with their direct approach & knowledge. Whatever it was, their style matched what I was seeking all along. That's not to say anything negative about our previous midwives. It's just that there was something I knew that was different from the very first phone call and at every step of the process my intuition was confirmed. Just days after getting acquainted & finding a short term apartment to rent my wife would go into labor. Rebekah & Danielle handled the entire process with grace & professionalism. 19 hours later our baby girl was born. Rebekah & Danielle were total pro's throughout. While the journey to meeting our daughter came with wild twists & turns at every stage, Im ultimately glad it did because we ended up sharing the final stage of the process with the best people for the job. I came across capital midwifery in my search for a midwife to support my birth experience. My initial connection with Rebekah was positive. She spoke to me on the phone and asked good questions and seemed to care about my experience. When we went to the birth center for a consultation, I was met with a very different energy. Somewhat indignant. As our conversation expanded, I mentioned to her other midwives I had researched and was potentially interviewing as she wasn't sure she would have space for me around my due date. She, instead of being supportive of others in the midwife community, chose to speak negatively of others in an effort to highlight her skills and qualities. This was not becoming of her and showed me her true colors. She said that I "pay for the quality you receive" and implied that because one of the midwives was also a Medi-Cal provider that she only served poor people and wasn't a quality midwife. I left that meeting with a bad taste in my mouth. I decided to meet with the midwife she spoke poorly about to get my own take and see if she was a good fit for me. Madeleine Shernock was warm, kind, and extremely caring. She cares deeply about providing access to midwifery care to all. She does not discriminate against underprivileged and opens her arms to all groups of people. And she doesn't bad mouth fellow midwives in the community. She was my midwife and relentlessly supported me even when my birth plan fell apart and I had to go to the hospital for medical intervention. She stayed by my side the whole way through, even slept on my hospital room floor on her birthday. My goal isn't to ruin lives here, but I hope it can be a lesson well learned for this organization. Do not speak poorly about others in your community. It says more about you than it does about them. read more

Rebekah and her midwifery team took great care of me and my baby during my pregnancy, labor, and postpartum. They addressed all my concerns the whole way through - and I had many concerns, since it was my first pregnancy. Rebekah even showed me how to swaddle my baby before she was born. These ladies are very intellectual and compassionate. They made me feel so comfortable. I had no fear about my labor and delivery because I knew I was in great hands of my midwives who have greatly prepared me for it. In every visit, the care I received was remarkably thorough and personable. For example, I wondered what body parts of my baby I was feeling when I touched my belly. They felt all over my belly and tell me what bump is what. They encouraged my husband to come and feel the baby's limbs. From that, we connected with our baby even more. I had the experience of getting care from a conventional physician at a major hospital and the office visits in comparison to Rebekah's contrasted tremendously. When I asked the physician if my baby's head is facing down, he just said, Ya, probably. And that was the end of the usual 10-minute visit. In one of Rebekah's usual 1-hour visits, she told me to take a natural iron supplement that didn't cause constipation. At the physician's office, they prescribed me some iron pills along with some pills to relieve the constipation that the iron pills caused. Those are just a few of the differences in care that I experienced. I could write a whole book about it. To emphasize how much more I value Rebekah's service than the standard hospital care: I have good health insurance and could have continue to receive conventional care from a major hospital without spending a penny, but I rather pay out-of-pocket for Rebekah's care. It was the best investment I made! I especially loved the home visits where they came to my home to check on me and my baby. I got to experience the old-fashioned kind of doctor's visits! It was so wonderful. My baby and I really didn't have to leave the house until she was 1 month old! I had never thought home birth was even an option I had, but fortunately I stumbled across Rebekah's midwifery service which made it a reality! I also love that Rebekah still keeps in touch with us and it's been almost a year since my baby was born. Every year, she holds a reunion with all the moms and babies she cared for. I'll forever be grateful for the care and education I received from Rebekah Lake at Capital Midwifery. At around 5 months pregnant, my husband and I decided we wanted to have a home birth and made the switch from my obstetrician to Rebekah Lake. From the first time we met her, we felt comfortable and had instant trust that she would make our journey into parenthood safe and amazing. The prenatal care I had with Rebekah was so different from the care I received in my OB's office - in a great way. Each appointment with Rebekah was at least an hour, full of information and emotional support. Ultimately, I ended up needing to schedule a cesarean because my baby was in a transverse position. Rebekah recognized this well ahead of time and helped me make the decision to transfer my care back to my original obstetrician. The process was very smooth. Rebekah was able to recognize the safest option for my birth. Although I didn't have the home birth I had imagined I would, I received the most amazing prenatal care and felt completely educated and empowered.
