Heather and Christie have been the best thing in my pregnancy/birthing journey. With only one postpartum appointment left, I am so sad to be ending services with them. I am now a first time mom and they have been so caring, supportive, flexible, and attentive throughout this whole journey. Christie is incredible! She walked me through my miscarriage with such kindness that her compassion cannot go unmentioned. She came over to my house and administered the RhoGAM shot that I needed (due to my blood type) after my miscarriage, which happened to be a few days before Thanksgiving. She proceeded to make me herbal tea with ingredients she brought from home, enough for a week. I was never even an "official" patient with her because I miscarried before my first 8 week appointment but she was there for me for multiple phone calls, concerns and even during a busy holiday to help me through one of the worst weeks of my life. Here is our Birth Story and experience with Cambridge Midwifery My husband and I found out we were pregnant with our 3rd child while living out of state. We knew already we would be moving at some point during my pregnancy back to Sacramento CA because of work, but didn't know if I would only be a few months or closer to 8 months pregnant. When I called and talked to Christie for the first time it was like I was talking to my sister or like a very close friend. She was so friendly, warm, and understanding of our situation. Right away she wanted to help us and support us in our pregnancy and the moving process. I knew before hanging up the phone that I had found the perfect midwife to go with us on this journey. Christie really takes the time to get to know all her mamas on a personal level. Before meeting in person she was already 100% devoted to providing the best care for me during this pregnancy. We called and texted back and forth for over a month while we were still living out of state and in the moving process. Finally we were back in CA and I started my prenatal appointments with Christie. Every appointment she showed how much she cared about taking care of you and your baby. She would answer any questions my husband and I had and she is extremely knowledgeable about over all health and pregnancy and taking a very natural approach, and never rushing through appointments. She wants you and your baby to be happy and healthy throughout pregnancy and birth. Each home visit was so much fun. My two other daughters ages 1 and 3 loved helping her and asking questions. My 3 year old has a special draw towards midwifery care and Christie noticed that and went out of her way to talk to her and explain what she was doing during my appointments and would let my daughter help with it all. My husband and I loved this because it brought the family together to love and support my growing belly and our 3 year old learned so much and continues to talk about becoming a midwife when she is big. Now onto labor, it slowly built up the few weeks leading up to delivery and no matter what time it was Christie was there answering my calls and text when I was unsure about something going on. June 31st when my labor started Christie came over and checked on me and the baby and everything was well, she then came back that night and did a second check and then left to let us sleep and get ready for delivery soon. That night/morning at 12am I woke up and things where getting real. We called Christie and she was quick to answer and on her way to us. When she arrived her and my husband got the birth tub set up and all the supplies ready. When she was setting up she was so quiet and comforting allowing me to continue laboring with out interruption, but giving me the peace of mind knowing she was there to help if needed. When she came over to me to get me into the tub and she placed her hand on my back it was a feeling of warmth, comfort, and so supportive. It gave me reassurance that my body and baby know what to do and to let it natural bring him into the world. During contractions Christie and my husband stayed right there next to the tub the whole time rubbing my back and hips helping and supporting me with their words of encouragement and reminding me to breathe low and deep and to go with the contractions to bring him down low to come out. This made my birth very empowering, more relaxing, and had such a trusting, caring, and loving feel from everyone. We were so happy and pleased with Cambridge Midwifery. I hired Christie as my doula last summer 2018. I highly recommend Christie! She is extremely knowledgeable and passionate about midwifery. Before my baby boy was even born, Christie was supporting me 100% by way of answering any and all questions I had, building a relationship with me, educating me on everything mother and baby related, preparing me, prepping me etc. I never had any trouble getting a hold of her and she was always quick to respond. She even drove to my house for our meetings (in the middle of summer and 38 weeks pregnant with two kids this was SO great). I wanted a birth that was as natural as could be in the hospital, meaning I didn't want an epidural and only wanted help managing the pain of the contractions through breathing etc. Christie set a calm presence in my delivery room, got along very well with the hospital staff, my husband and mom, and was my advocate through it all. Christie coached me through breathing during contractions, rubbed my feet, helped me feel as comfortable as possible and I was able to have a natural birth! The day we got home from the hospital, Christie met us at our home and brought my placenta capsules and tincture, a healing wash, a healing oil, a beautiful handmade watercolor image of my placenta and some treats from See's candies. A week or so later, Christie brought her scale so we could weigh baby since I was concerned he wasn't gaining enough weight. Christie is also a lactation consultant and gave me great advice on nursing and pumping. Today my boy is 6 months old and thriving, I'm still nursing and we are very happy. Where to even begin.... We were a bit nervous to go the home birth route but we took a chance and decided to interview Christie. I cannot express enough how amazing of an experience our home birth was and how thankful we were to have had her as our midwife. The level of care with Christie far surpassed the standard care you get when you birth through the hospital system. She was extremely knowledgable on preventative care and making sure I was doing everything for my body and my growing baby to have a healthy pregnancy and uneventful home birth (meaning no complications for myself or baby). I cannot say enough good things about Christie and her care. Throughout my pregnancy she was available for any and all questions and concerns. Not just for me to voice them but for us to discuss in depth the current recommendations, research and guidelines pertaining to the question. She is very knowledgeable and caring. She takes prenatal care seriously and respects the choices you make. She does a great job preparing for your specific birth and how you want that to look like. When I went into labor she was in contact with me all day until I was far along and called her to come over. She came over and quickly went to work setting up. When it was too much for me to move she did everything in that one position to ensure I was ok. She was nurturing, efficient and skilled. Postpartum care was just as thorough and I felt very cared for. She took her time with baby and I and explained options pertaining to us and our situation. She makes so many extra things for her moms. Including bum oil for baby, postpartum tea (and prenatal), herbal perineum wash and more. I had an uncomplicated labor and birth but I know if there were complications, I was in good hands. Her prenatal focus on preventative care really spoke to me. As a home birth mom you need to take responsibility for your health and make a lot of decisions. Christie was a great sounding board and wealth of knowledge. 4 years ago Christie was assisting the midwives I hired to support me during my pregnancy, birth, & postpartum experience with my 2nd baby. She was extremely relatable, thoughtful, kind and had a heart to serve. Unfortunately, she was not able to be there for my birth because she had another commitment. The last half of my pregnancy was spent with this sweet, caring, and knowledgeable midwife.
